  1. mustcooktea Have you kept fish in that tank for any length of time?? Sounds real weird what sadly is going on for you. Alan 104
  2. Your setout looks good, and as the plants grow and fill in the gaps, it will only improve. Good work Alan 104

    Microworms

As soon as poss, get them onto newly hatched, BBS, and they'll take off Mystic. Alan 104
  4. Actually, as I understand it, it is not the kill zone of the cysts dropping off the host fish when they are killed. It is when the cysts have incubated off the fish, where ever they have landed, that they burst forth with spores, which head out into the water in search of their new host. THIS is the time that the medicaction does the kill. Not the cysts. You must carry on the treatment for three days after the last of the spots are seen on the fish. Pennies, or copper in the tank is used for prevention of "velvet" disease, one that is very prevalent with the Nothobranchius species of killifish. The snails informed you when the copper levels were heading towards toxic proportions. Alan 104
  5. I'd agree on that alanmin, as with most things that humans muck around with, what they started with is a design for a purpose that didn't need mucking around with. The long finned oscars is a classic example, as is the colour morphs of the dwarf gourami, all the shades, almost, of the rainbow, but now, compared with the "naturals", are very poor at breeding and are so delicate, you only need to sneeze in the same room as them and they'll get whitespot or dropsy, etc Alan 104

In my opinion, the fry are too small for live food, and should be on infusorta or I use "green-water", which is just an easy way of getting infusorians. Alan 104
  7. alanmin, if you didn't look closely, you'd think that they were albinoes. Suppose that was why they were labled that way. But the shop keeper Dave, agreed with me that they weren't true albino, just looked that way. No pink eyes is a sure fire way of telling that. Alan 104
  8. Bit late now Brother Luke. It's all over Rover in three days time if we can go on what we have been told. Alan 104

    KILLIE TANKS

I use garden hose split lengthwise Alan 104
  10. Well if it is for the MAFia Study, put both of them in for reference. Miss one, loose it. Alan 104

    KILLIE TANKS

It is a sticky on one side article that you get in a roll from a hardware store. It's normal place of use is between the door jamb and the door, stuck to the jamb, can also be used on older type windows. About 10mm wide and 5mm thick. Alan 104
  12. MMMMMMMMMwwhhhaaaaaaaaaaa Alan 104
  13. My fishroom is set up to heat water, a small pump, pumps it thru pipes set in the floor and heats the room. The concrete floor acts as a night reservoir, and for back up IF we have no sun. A thermostatic electric fan heater. Alan 104
  14. I didn't say it was a legal import tho Caryl!! As soon as I saw them my eyebrows nearly fell off. Alan 104
  15. The ones I'm refering to are a gold morf. Selling as albinoes, but they aren't, they have black eyes. They have not been around for many years. little own, many months. Alan 104
  16. Have you seen the latest wcmm in the shops? Even Whakatane has them, $6.00 each tho. The only way they could have hit the shops with so many at once, is either thru an import, or someone has managed to get some in, bred them up really well, then hit the market, all at once, to get premium dollars. I know of someone on this forum who has bought some from an Auck. shop, in an attempt to breed them up too. Alan 104
  17. simfish, if you join a club you get them thrown in with your registration fees for nothing. Otherwise they cost $21.50 per year, I think, from an outlet. They are quarterly produced. Check with Caryl. Alan 104
  18. They aren't new restrictions, they have been there for ages, just that Cees is now trying to inforce the size now. A bit like the round-about rules on the road They have been there for yonks too People think they are new, they are just being enforced. Alan 104
  19. Whakatane's have arrived Caryl. Once agin, thanks for your effort. Good to see some BAPS are coming through too. Alan 104

    killies

Hi AqNut Now I know you must see this. Have you sent that rego form for your brother back to me yet?? Do you need me to send another?? Had a good talk at the WAS club on Sunday night, I kept watching the door to see if you'd come in. I had some Gold Wonders there too. Alan 104

    killies

Doesn't look like you'll be getting any, unless of course there is a new tank in the offing Alan 104

    Jordanella floridae

and that means tite lids. DON'T leave any gaps. A garden-hose cut lengthwise covers a lot. The rest of the awkward ones, use filter floss. Alan 104

    Jordanella floridae

Then Grasshopper, you have more to learn about killies. Cover them. They are possibly the best jumpers from aquariums around. Moral of Story. We learn from our experiences. Alan 104
  24. The Xrays are so low it does not affect them. How would we be able to breed from all the fish that are imported into the country?? Alan 104
  25. Why not?? Just put them inside the filter. Alan 104
