Hi Paul, thanks for the link back to here for the pics. Yes these are the ones I have. Great to hear you now have babies. You will not be able to locate these in any books as they haven't been , what's the term? Written up on yet, being just newly discovered. Got this information from Peter Cottle of England. Killie eggs

I normally do ten plus for $10 this includes the P&P which is $3.50 and in a pill vial in a block of polystyrene. In the summer could prolly do them by mail, I haven't tried that tho Different breeders different prices tho. I have heard of Golden Wonder eggs being sold for $2.00 each. The more difficult the fish and harder to get, could push up the price as well. The nothos are normally a weeks spawning, that can result in over 100 eggs, but then you have a wait of a few months to hatch them. Then again, some club members will swap or even give eggs to other club members. Non members can expect to pay about 50% more. Alan NZKA 104

I think that the topic has been covered very well actually. But it is slowly sliding into different realms. Reminds me of a chatroom discussion. So. Any more killi questions. Not refering to the above quote, please start another thread. Thanks Mystic Alan NZKA 104

Fourth from the top of his list Luke. The AKA use that as the fish on their badge the same as we use the A. australe. T/C = Tooth carp. I think until recently when Caserole got some SJD's, Logan Fow was the last to breed them in NZ. and I was the last to have one. After Caserole got the fish and got stuck into them with his secret food recipe that he has, they have become available to members then to shops in Auck., selling for $50 or more, and in the club, you may be lucky to pick up a nice pair for $20. Some of our breeders may have eggs for sale. But what they charge I have no idea. Non club members I would think should count themselves lucky tho if they got them at $10.00 for 10 eggs, plus p/p Alan NZKA 104

I have seen them pop up quite often in LFS Shae, and they'd be the cheapest killi on the market at only $6.00. So my suspicions on that price tells me someone in NZ MUST be breeding them for that. I don't think they'd come thru Q at that price. Alan NZKA 104

All the killies are from the T/C family Shae. What about the King killies, they are BIG eaters too. A. sjoestedti. A gardneri P-82's should be on the market for NZKA members soon. Also hopefully the C. bitaeniatum - Lagos, as well Good list you got up there tho. Corrected your Dageti spelling, may have just been a typo tho. Australe, bitaeniatum, normani and annulatus would be fine with guppies, but I still think that they'd peg the baby guppies, well the mum and dad guppies do anyway. Alan NZKA 104
  13. Looks like the RFJ's could be our common old Jewel cichlid, Hemichromis bimaculatus & H. lifalili The former is the common one, but the other, if you can get it, is a very worthwhile addition to the cichlid aquarium, having absolutely brilliant red colouration, unlike the bimacs that fade out after spawning. The lifalilis just keep on shining. BUT These are not a peaceful fish as anyone who have kept either of them will tell you. Not a good resale value either. Alan NZKA 104

  15. Are you aware that two females can go thru the motions of mating and one lay eggs? This is often seen in angels. The result of course are unfertilized eggs and no babies. Alan NZKA 104
  16. What do you mean the "tank seal"? Do you mean the actual RTV between the two pieces of glass?? The joint itself? Or what has squelched out when being made and rounded off in the making if the tank?? If the former, and you can see where the RTV has not filled properly, and an airtrack is showing, you may be able to squeeze RTV back thru to fill it. If it's failing, strip it down and start again. If it is the bead, which I suspect it is. Just cut out all the beading and redo it. That'l pick up the leak. The green you refer to, as all the seam is not coloured, my guess, is that it is algae growth that has got under the bead and it will slowly spread and lift all the bead. Sooooo, my best bet is to strip out all the internal corners, I use a piece of freshly cut glass, it has very sharp edges and gets into the corner to do the removal, clean back to the glass, removing all the RTV and any sign of the algae and apply the RTV, and pointing it off with a wet finger. Leave 24 hours then fill. Alan NZKA 104
  17. dee_jay_01, What are Red Forest Jewels??. I've never heard any fish refered in that way. Thanks. Alan NZKA 104

    Baby Guppies

PENEJANE Joined: 01 Apr 2005 Posts: 586 Location: Invercargill, NZ Posted: Sun Nov 20, 2005 7:39 pm Post subject: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- my baby guppies are in a fry tank. Normaly I manage to catch the female before she drops so I put her in the breeding trap then transfer the fry over to the fry tank. If there are any females that have babies during the night and I miss them well thats just hard cheese I guess lol but when I get the other tanks I will just have one thank as a MISC tank. All the ones that I am seperating are the solid half blacks, albinos, snakeskins and a grow out tank for fry with a divider so I can seperate sexes. Which species would be fine with guppies? cheers

Penejane I have moved your remarks about your guppies to the Livebearer section. I realise you did ask what species of killies could be kept with them but you did ask earlier. Hope that's ok with you. Thanks Alan NZKA 104

While a member of the Waikato AS, we went on a trip to Auck and there visited a woman out towards the west who bred golds. They were not deformed as these are tho. I don't have the contact details, but maybe Dave does. I don't know if she is still into it either. Alan NZKA 104
  24. Thanks Bazza. You have pm'd you concerning your other posting, pm me details as requested. I'll get a rego form out to you asp. Alan NZKA 104
