    The Mount

Living Waters at Palmers, and Animal Antics after you go across the bridge to the Mount. Just past a Shell SS on the right heading east and look for a big tyre place, it's down beside that. The sign Animal Antics is hard to see unless you are really looking for it. Alan NZKA 104
  2. Gidday Jimmy welcome aboard. As C says, what shop are you at?? There's a bit of a chatroom most nights about 9.00pm, we sometimes even talk fish. Alan NZKA 104
  3. What was the price of it Alan?? Watch out for the heat sensor, if it is copper you will have to have it inside some sort of protection from the main tank water. Otherwise youll give the fish a dose of copper poisoning. Possibly a sleeve built into the tank?? Alan NZKA 104
  4. Mite help if we new where in the world u r?? Alan NZKA 104
  5. Thermostat are available. The LFS should be able to get them from Brooklands Alan NZKA 104
  6. Yeah Alan, we have used undertank heating DIY type for a while now. If you find the potos that Caryl took of the Napier Fish Show, you will see the NZKA stand, all of which is cable heated. I have used cable from an old electric blanket wired into a thermostat and embedded into a pinex base then covered in vinyl. The tanks do have to have a similar volume to each other tho, and the thermostat is placed in one tank, so now you see the necessity for the volumes to be the same.. Caryl's hubby, Grant, I think may have a drawing of what I'm on about. Alan NZKA 104
  7. As Alan says Infusoria for the first week. Haven't got any?? Then bomb the tank with java moss and/or green water. When they start to color up you'll change your mind and think that you have baby neons. Good work Alan NZKA 104

    lagos babies

The Striatums we have, also have a black band over the top of the caudal going to an extension. On checking thru the above link, that shows up as one of the named species. I haven't figured it out yet tho. Caserole pointed out that there were site-variations of this species, so that is one sign to watch for. Alan NZKA 104 Woops  it was in the 'How Big are Killies' post, PJ put it in, http://www.killi.co.uk/ Al

I too now have Lagos eggs eying up nicely. No sign of fungus, so maybe they were a bit young to start with. I lost 1 Stri female to the two boys, rescued the other female and have just recently put her back with one of the males. Too many fungused eggs, so may try the other male over her. The babies of the others that hatched are doing fine more eggs have hatched and I haven't had any fry fatalities. Just fungused eggs. Alan NZKA 104

Because of the low number of fish in the tanks and the plants. I wouldn't be too fussed about any aeration. Just do 1/3 tp 1/2 water change a week and you'll have no probs. Use 1tspn of salt per four litres for them, helps keep away the dreaded "velvet' disease. Jave moss and ambulia(nothing rong with the spelling), will be fine. Some of us use 'indian fern' floating on top. Cuts out some of the jumping too. But it isn't foolproof tho. The root mass act as a fine depository for the eggs as well. Alan NZKA 104

Yes shiuh. a mop is one of the ways we have a go with them, and they take 10 to 14 days to hatch. Some breeders prefer to do it in a fully planted tank, others use the base covered in peat. Your choice. Alan NZKA 104

All of them can have the young in the tank as long as there is plenty of cover for them, but understand only the quickest will survive. To maximise numbers tho a whole different system is set up. More tanks. Alan NZKA 104
  13. The bacteria will come from the atmosphere. Liquifry is not an infusoria culture, but it may cause or be food for infusorians to grow. Alan NZKA 104

Didn't I tell you that name?? But never mind, that's great news about those babies. Keepit up. Alan
  15. Can't see anything you are doing wrong seahorse. Just the weather isn't condusive to breeding at the moment. If you wait for a low to come in from Ozz, you may see some action then. Oh!! Make sure they are getting lot of live food in the mean time. Alan NZKA 104

  17. It's not silly when you know the ins and outs of it Werner. I'm still waiting for a reply to several letters I have written to the other committee members. I'm still here Werner, and if I have anything to do with it the NZKA will not disappear from the NZ scene. Alan NZKA 104
  18. PJ, when you cleaned your filter, I hope you did it with tank water???? Otherwise I'd say you are into a tank cycle again and need to do frequent water changes while the good bactreia grow again in numbers. Alan NZKA 104
  19. I think that may be petrified wood Caryl Alan NZKA 104
  20. You're corrected Cees. The plant in question has the main vein and two starting at it's base joining again at the top. Whereas the Spathiphyllum wallisii has the main central vein with side veins branching out to the edge of the leaf alternately, just counted mine and it has five each side, maybe they have more as the leaf enlarges(????). 21. Don't know if this will work, but it is an excerpt from one of my spammers list that is sent to me. You'll notice there is not much difference between the prices of "normal" and "albino" guppies. Assorted guppy male Poecilia reticulata L $0.18 Assorted guppy male Poecilia reticulata XL $0.21 Assorted guppy femalePoecilia reticulata L $0.18 Assorted guppy femalePoecilia reticulata XL $0.21 Cobra Poecilia reticulata XL $0.21 Chile Poecilia reticulata XL $0.21 Golden Poecilia reticulata XL $0.21 Neon Poecilia reticulata XL $0.21 Blue Diamond Poecilia reticulata XL $0.21 Grass Poecilia reticulata XL $0.21 Scirssors Poecilia reticulata XL $0.21 Gold red Poecilia reticulata XL $0.21 Moscow Blue Poecilia reticulata XL $0.28 Assorted guppy male Poecilia reticulata L $0.28 Assorted guppy male Poecilia reticulata XL $0.32 Assorted guppy femalePoecilia reticulata L $0.28 Assorted guppy femalePoecilia reticulata XL $0.32 The ones in RED being the albinoes This is just a small sample of what is out there. We obviously get the bad end of the line when you consider that for the show type guppy you are paying from $3.50 to $16.00 per fish. These are the hi and lo of the market with the average being about $4.50 an animal. Just a little bit of info I thought some may be interested in. Alan NZKA 104
  22. Hi Serkan, welcome to the site. We have SJO just starting to established in NZ. I KNOW you'd love some. But how to make them learn to swim the Tazzie is going to be a problem. Alan NZKA 104

    Cockatoo Cichlid

Ok, now I know. It is a aquascaped 4'er, looks good, be good to see photos of it at one month apart to show the growth. IMO the rams will be fine. Tetras, what sort have you got, remember the pacu is a member of the tetra family. You'll have to watch which ones you get don't have a vegie diet tho. BN ok. K. loaches?? Take a photo of them before you put them in the tank and leave it glued to the tank, "These fish are in here, I think!!"Albino cate I presume are corydoras, they'll be ok too. Alan NZKA 104
