  1. How do you do RASPBERRIES. Alan 104
  2. Don't need to cross anyones land. Park the car and take six paces and you feet should be just about wet. Not a river, but a thermal pond, fed by a spring which gives them the correct temperature, and which then flows into Lake Taupo. They are not a threat to the environment as the water they live in is too hot for trout or natives, so they just fill an empty niche. Only thing to beware of are some ignorant ummm, (careful Al, your a Mod) people, that say that they put them there and that they eat them. Yeah? Pull the other one. To find it, head for Little Waihi from Tokaanu, just before you take a turn to go up a steep incline, away from the Lake there was a stretch of water on your left. THAT'S the pond. By the way, you don't have a dog's chance of catching them all. One, there are to many of them. Two, they are spread all around the lake area, some of which is inaccesable. Three, you wont be smart enough to catch them, well, not all of them, they can JUMP Four, you'll need the right nets or gear to get them. The best are the electric stunners, and not many ppl have them, do they?? There you are, the secrets out, I have known about them now for about 20 years, and when I first found them, the feeder spring was so hot it was used by the local maori to scald pigs. Now it will hardly warm a can of spaggeti. Alan 104 ps, It is a good place to visit as the hobbiests will find out. Check out the stream that you crossed over just before the pond too. Good plants in there Al
  3. They state that it is NOT gigantica, and as far as I know, that is the only illegal one. Alan 104
  4. I feed them grated frozen luncheon. They love it. Keep them cool or they will take off, also keep them dark. Alan 104
  5. Ya could always take some fish catching gear and try your hand at getting some wild mollies at Tekaanu. Now that's fun. Alan 104
  6. With that cross you may get a few opaline colours as well. Alan 104
  7. penguinleo, I have PM'd you on a different matter a while back. Can you please check?? Thanks Alan 104 EDIT Just checked the "Out Box" and see you have it. Al

    Holiday feeding

Can't see that working at my place. So I've hired a special person to do it for me for the use of the house while I'm away for 11 days. Look out Australia, here I come. Herefishiefishie, if you see this please PM or email me before Thurs. morning. Early NZDST. Alan 104
  9. Just need to disguise it with gravel for the bottom to the log and plants, or other slab type rocks up over the driftwood. Use your imagination. I saw a log put into the Nth Shore Jansens. It was HUGE, they held it done by propping FROM THR CEILING Alan 104
  10. Shellbell, if we didn't make mistakes as we tread this earth, we would never learn anything. So learn from your frustrations and work on it. Don't give up. Just go another way at it. "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again" Alan 104
  11. It is not an aquatic, but will survive underwater for a period of time. Alan 104
  12. http://www.pets-warehouse.com/plants/plantpic52.htm There's a link to some pics of it. Alan 104
  13. They would Luke, but for some reason, those (Rotorua) that do get them, seem to loose them almost as soon as they come in. Also the cost of them from the wholesalers is close to $18.00, maybe our LFA members can tell us what they'd sell for at that cost. Remember that that does not include GST either. So they are over $40 in the shop. Well the best ones are. There just is not enough breeders producing enough for the shops. Members seem to be able to make more thru TradeMe. It would be very interesting to know how many NZKA members are breeding and what species they are doing. Very few reply to questioners put out by the club so as statistics can be worked out on these things. From what I can recall we had only 5 replies from 40 members at the last census in April. One of the had none, but at least it was a reply. So the moral of the story is to find a member that is breeding, obtain some fish, and join the few that are breeding. Alan 104
  14. A friend of mine had a grow out pond made from concrete blocks laid on a lawn to form a square and then a sheet of black polythene laid inside that. The water was pea-soup green and the pond measured about 1.5M square. Alan 104
  15. Can you please stretch out their names please. Hard enough ID'ing fish with comon names little own initials. I'm sure I'm not the only one that wouldn't know what they are. Thanks Alan 104
  16. Look for a difference in their depositors. Very easy to see at this time. If they are fertile, I hope you have some big growing on tanks. They have 100's of babies. Alan 104
  17. Goldfish don't need heating at all, they can over winter under ice if the needs be, but I don't think it would get that cold inside your house in the winter. Even in Timaru. Alan 104
  18. If the angels are big enough and the killies are small enough, you'll be feeding them expensive live food. Depends what ones you are hoping to get too PJ. Alan 104
  19. In the killie fraternity one of the egg receptors is boiled willow root so I'd say go for it. Another added benifit of willow is that your fish should never suffer headaches again, as asprin is a derivative of willow. Why don't you go to the welcome thread and introduce yourself to the gang shellbell. By the way, let me be the first to say welcome aboard. Alan 104
  20. Well as you can see from the heading it is that time of the year agin. So for you who have not already done it yet. Go to your profile and scroll right down to the bottom and you'll see Timezone. Alter it to read Timezone: GMT - + 13 Hours. Happy Spring. I do know it was back on the 23rd., but what the heck. Alan 104
  21. Yes, I'll go along with that choice of name too. Ppl often call them fresh water schnapper, you'll see why as he develops. Alan 104
  22. Yep, Wok is a great NZKA ambassador. Good one Wok. So Alan it looks like you may have my line heading south, good one. At least I think they are. I'm going up Auck way next week. So depending on time will depend on the sight-seeing. Don't forget to make sure that the tank they are goinhg into is "jump-proof", Wok says his fish don't jump, but maybe they'll change their mind in your tank. Even the smallest gaps they can get thru, so be careful!! Alan 104

    Greetings Everyone!

Welcome aboard okki You must be the quickest that we have seen on this forum to work out how to post pics and get them up. A picture saves a 1000 words. Boy your post would have been a long one without them. Good luck and once again. Welcome Alan 104
  24. It would be good Tim if you could get a pic of one from those ppl that live east Auck area. They got them in Rotorua before I got mine, and they may be from a different area. See what you can do please. They can be ID'd from their colour markings apparently. Alan 104
  25. Go and stand in the Naughty Corner Fishkeepa. Alan 104
