Mine too. Maybe a species variation?? Alan
  7. Welcome Helen. The parents are normally good parents, both of whom share the duties. Their tank water should be soft and run thru a filter with peat in it. Temps 26 to 28. Condition them both well and supply some flat rocks which seem to be their choice of preference. Keep light down to a minimum, you don't need to see what they are doing, they'll know without too bright a conditions. Have extra shelter in the aquarium to negate a little, if one of the parents packs a hissy-fit. Goodluck Alan

    Sword+white poop

Ira, there actually is a "poop" casing when the fish excrete. Just read about it the other day, but don't know where it was to put you onto it. Alan

    snail solution

The price of clown loaches depends on two things. Availability and size. When saying how much they cost, it would be good to know an estimate of their size. Alan

Where does it say any thing about "wooden shelves" ? Alan
  13. Check to make sure she hasn't developed a secondary infection, showing as a ulcerated wound. Like, what is the salt solution. 1tspn to 2 litres?? Isolate Sue
  14. Sue, have a look at newbies answer about the salt. The injury may have been caused by the birthing, an egg calcifing and blocking the vent, or other fish helping her to birth and eating the babies at the same time, not an uncommon occurance in a community tank. Goodluck with your attempt at saving the fish. Alan

    spawning mops

Peg, I wasn't joking. As Alan ( the other one) says, use acrylic, and use the fluffier one, Use differnt colors for color coding, either for species or dates. Before reusing the mop from one species to another, boil the mop, or use real hot water, to kill any surviving eggs from previuos attempts at breeding. Eggs can survive for weeks, sometimes months, in a damp situation. Alan
  16. never BUY SALT AT A PET SHOP uNLESS OF COURSE YOU ARE IN A DIFFERENT WAGE BRACKET THAN ME. iT USE TO BE SAID THAT non-IODISED SALT SHOULD BE USED, BUT NOW THE THINKING IS THAT IT DOESN'T REALLY MATTER. tHE CHEAPEST PLACE TO GET SALT imho, IS AT A FARM SUPPLIERS. Like Farmlands or Wrightsons. I got a heap of it, still got some, I bought Rock-salt that is heavy granulated stuff. Remember to dissolve the salt first b4 putting fish into the water tho. Sorry about the Caps, aren't going to change it tho. Alan
  17. Give it a salt bath too NPnewbie, and put the m/blue on neat to the spot Alan
  18. Isolate, tspn of salt to 2lts water, and a dab of methylene blue on the fungus. And hope. Alan

    spawning mops

You are correct Fins. You DON'T use wool Alan
  20. Get a pair first. Get them when you have the availability if live flies for food. I used passion hoppers for my effort, it failed due to not enough care to detail, and lack of live food. Alan
  21. Take the fish out of the pond and put it into a separate receptacle. You must be using gallons of malachite green to treat the fish properly. of course, depends how big the pond is as to how many gallons you should be using. Also, if it is contagious, the others will have less chance of contracting the problem. Alan
  22. Like DUH Obviously you don't pay the food bill. My Mum taught me to "waste not, wont not" I must still be back in the last century. Stuff this throw away society. Alan
