    fish prices

But if a shop buys them without paying GST then they don't have to declare the GST either. Just a thought. In fact. No paper work, money in the back pocket for a free night out. Another plus tho for lfs to buy local, is that the fish haven't come from over-crowded, antibiotic filled tanks. They come from local water conditions, prolly the same as their customers, in other words, less deaths and happier customers. Alan
  2. Welcome Jude, Where are you from, that way we can introduce you possible to a local affiliated club. by the way, what do you call a small fish tank?? Small to some ppl may vary one heck of a lot. Alan

    fish prices

Not if they are N rachovvi Just remember, you wont be getting what the shops sell them for, and those shops over close to you, you would be lucky to get half of what they sell them for. Alan
  5. Don't tell them that you want it for aquarium use. I heard of a firm up there that once they found out about that side of things. The price doubled Alan
  6. To over come the "light-fright". Turn on a pilot light, or the room light, or open the blinds. Just do something so that they don't get a huge flash. Not too hard to figure out. Do the reverse when turning off the lights too. Alan

    Water Changing.

Bilbo, I like your try and see attitude. Could be a fairly drasic one tho. Let's know how things go, "Might not happen straight away, but it will happen" Change the "will" to "may" Alan

  9. It is good to be challenged Krib. Means that you are learning something. Make sure to ask questions when you have a guest speaker, and are invited to. The only DUMB question is the unasked one. Did you know others in the room are thinking the same as you? but are on the DUM list. Don't you be there too. Alan

  11. Ira, the "a" and the "e' are more than a fat finger apart. So would not count for a typo I make a point of not correcting any erros from others Typos or not You do not know their circumstances. In my opinion, it is rude But at times, the complainant gets caught him/herself. Alan

    Culling

Why create a debate on this one Pain is pain Throw them hard onto the concrete path or floor, then into the rubbish bin. DON'T feed dead, sick fish, to other species WASH YOUR HANDS Alan
  21. Amazonian, the rivers you talk about are actually a small stream that comes down parrallel to the Taupo - Napier highway. I HAVE fished there, it was a long time ago now, as the stream is now over- grown with blackberries, and under the culvert that was a fav. place, was thick with a long slimy algae, that clogged nets of anyone silly enuf to try and fish there. Swords and trout just could not survive happily in water that suited the other. There is also a spot north of Taupo, in a camping ground where tropicals can be caught, and of course there is the infamous Tekanu swamp, where many members here, have caught those beautiful mollies. Alan
  22. BG, in a tank is a good site to start. MAKE SURE you have a tight fitting lid, they can jump like rockets. Even thru that gap between the lid and side of the tank. To prevent this, use a length of garden hose cut to the right length, leave JUST enuf room for air-lines and power leads, then split it length wise slip this over the tank's side Hey Presto No more gap. Make a breeding mop, that is just acrylic wool, thick, not the thin strand, and colour doesn't really matter but with the darker wool it is easier to see the eggs. this is a floating mop, and the fish will spawn any where up or down it You make it by wrapping the wool about 20 times around a 200mm book. Tie it off tightly at one end of the book. Then cut thru the strands the opposite end Fluff it out, tie on a wine bottle cork, or block of polystyrene, your mop is made. Feed all types of food, but live food is relished. I pick the eggs daily as the parents will eat them if the can find them. Hatch the eggs about 14 days after laying and then feed BBS then onto ground flake, etc. babies can be cannibalistic, so watch the sizes, or you'll end up with a few big ones. Alan
