  1. NEVER NEVER NEVER use boiling water near plastics unless your insurances are up to date. The temperature does strange things to plastic and you are liable to get an original looking type of filter. Why don't you take it down to "DECO PETS" I'm sure they'll give you all the info you want or need. We can't see it, can't even know what shape it is. But we do know it is an Eheim, so I guess that's a help. If you dont want to go to D P's then put up some pics of the machine, then I'm sure you'll get more informed help. Alan 104
  2. Forget the air pumps, they would only work for one bag. Forget the heater coolers. Use a chilly pak if it's too hot, or a coke bottle filled with hot water. Surround either way of heating/cooling with a newspaper, as direct contact with a bag can move the temp. drastically. Both cases, keep the lid on. Enquire at the shop where you buy them if they have oxy, and have them use that for the fish. Pack in small numbers per bag. Especially cichlids. One per bag, as they are liable to fight kill one and the other will die from pollution. Caryl's suggestion of water from home is a good one. Get spare plastic bags and a supply of rubber bands as well. Make sure your tanks are ready at home, as it is a super tedious job after a long trip and you'll be tempted to do shortcuts that can be deadly. Oh. Take a good book for the missus to read while you're in the fish-shops and make sure your wallet is full of greenies, and/or make sure your credit card isn't max'd out. Good luck Happy shopping. 3. Gir, just thought I'd let you know. As this site is NZ based, the terminology of "long" and "high" means absolutely "jack" to us. We use the terminoligy of litres and sizes, Length x Width x Height. We can use inches and feet, but we have converted over to metric. We also ca use gallons, but not USA ones, they are too small. , but with these we have also converted to litres. So I guess we'll have to get you a bit of NZ education. Alan 104
  4. As it is on a Sunday, and we all know the best fish-shop in Hamilton is shut on Sundays. Is there any way Brian could be cajoled to have the doors open, say for an hour?? Just thinking for any "out-a-towners" that MAY come thru. Alan 104
  5. Good one Peter, how many, or are there so many ya'll have ta hazard a guess? Mine have been free swimmimg since 20th. Time they came out fromm M&D before they get eaten like last time. Must be something in the air. Everything seems to be doing it around the forum. Alan 104
  6. I use the bucket method. But I've found it is easier, quicker, more successful, to do just a third at a time. Alan 104
  7. You've cast an Irish spell on it so as we can only see red crosses. We haven't got a Balarny Stone to kiss to remove the spell, so maybe, I twought you could do it again wiffout da spell dis tyme Tanks Alan 104
  8. If you can't revive it because of, well, it doesn't matter. Just start a new club with a different name. It would be good to have some YOUNG blood in the group down there. Alan 104
  9. Actually I just noticed the gold G has red eyes. This is 'normally' a male trait. So you may have two boys, and with that goes trouble.. When next in your LFS look into their tanks and check out the fin shapes. As caryl says, Long = boys Short = girls Alan 104
  10. Check out the J stores All of them had them B4 Xmas Alan 104
  11. and these are prolly already crossbred to get the color variations, fins, etc. Alan 104
  12. Just in case you want to know what the "funny" name means, try Tricho (hair) + gaster (belly) Alan 104
  13. What a load of proverbial LB They are both Trichogaster trichopterus The blue being more of the original colour while the "gold" is a color morph. Can you tell me where you got your information from LB, as both these, if of opposite sex (I think they are), will if compatible, breed quite happily for you in the right conditions, The resultant offspring will probably be of FOUR differnt colors and carrying the original color gene as well. Morf, it could of been worse Could have been kiwi-juice. By the way, ya should be there when we HAVE a crowd. Alan 104
  15. I think he's out Raglan way If he is the one, I'm almost sure Rob or Dave know him or know how to contact him. Alan 104
  16. You should think of removing the parents from the babies about two to three weeks from when they spawned Pol. If you don't and M&D want to do it all over again, they are going to have a quick protein meal of the babies. Alan 104
  17. I think any party or BBQ that Wok attends should be held outside, as he has a reputation of throwing food around. I also think that he should be stripped searched to make sure he isn't carring any hidden weapons that could be used for dispensing unwanted drinks to people. Please, for the sake of your property, see if the "Cake-tin" is available. Alan 104
  18. This fish is a color morph of the dwarf gourami. It appears to be getting harder and harder to get females of this species. Nice fish tho. Alan 104
  19. Keep taking pics for your record of the event. I had a pair of killies like that. I took pics of them and they survived for a few days. but sadly have departed these climes. Alan 104

Some of these pics are perfect for discribing how to sex angels. Please notice the difference in the angle, from the chin to the anal fin. This method is how I sex my angels, and as long as you have them both with different angles. The angels are two different sexes. Not neccessarily a pair tho. This, hopefully, comes later. Alan 104
  21. Indian fern doesn't come in bunches. They are single plants, unless they are small examples, then they MAY put some together. Damn, wish my Indian Ferns were going ok. $4.80, is, in my opinion, a complete rip-off, as it is so easy to grow. Alan 104
  22. Where are you Saffaboy??? Alan 104
  23. I would be using one of those el-cheepo corner box filters. They'll maintain your tank cycle and take out any thick crud. But only recycle the green water. Have you got snails, if not, why not?? Alan 104
  24. Too far to drive??? I use to travel from Whakatane to Hamilton to go to fish meetings. Check that out on the map. About a 5 hour round trip. Anyway, why not get one going (club) out there, I'm sure there are heaps of hobbiest out that way. Alan 104
  25. IMHO it is getting close to getting the parents out before they eat the babies. I had mine free swimming the other day, and will be removing M&D on day 10. One week to go. Alan 104
