    Filtration

I think your a little late to register him Caryl.
  3. well well well, so maybe someones plan will work.
  4. Apparently there are some around. Don't know if they have breed them yet but it's not that hard to do.
  5. Try strips of fish and garden worms.
  6. If he did he would have let us know - to spread the knowledge.
  7. They'll eat fish alright if there hungry enough. As thats a yellow one I'd put a lettuce leaf in the tank for it as Yellows LOVE there plant matter. I had one ONCE it ate a massive bunch of plants in it's first and last night in that tank. If you have a planted tank and want to get ride of them add a yellow apple snail
  8. I've breed an unknown sp. of Ancistrus, they most closely resemble Ancistrus triradiatus. They are some what flat on the head compared to the common B/N, have strong patternation no their fins, a dark belly no pattern and segmentation pattern on their skull. They are a bushy nose species that is both sexes have bristles although the female only has them on the leading edge of the snout. The males only develops small odontodes on the tips of their pectoral fins This is a pic of a 5 or 6cm juvenile. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y187/s ... MG1222.jpg

    peat

Why would you say something honorable like that. :-?

    peat

I wouldn't use Hauraki Gold if you payed me. It stinks( to wet ) and has to much sticks and stones in it. I use Daltons peat, it's much finner and easy to sieve the large bits out. Palm peat is also an option, I think that is what the peat blocks are. jiffy type pots can be found at the local hydroponics shop as well, they do contain some fertiliser but as there intended for seedlings it's not much and can be mostly removed when saturating the peat by boiling.
  11. To get the best growth in your baby guppies it is recommended they be feed powdered dry food ( flake, crumble, what ever ) then feed bbs. You feed the adults the same way!!
  12. I actually got my breeders from Auckland. The point is we really should be trying to keep them as true as we can rather then making it worse by out xing to the common B/N. This has already a cured in some pet shops by housing adult common and GBA's together then selling the resulting fry rather then destroying them - all for the mighty $$. It is my intention to try and eliminated black markings from the GBA's produced in my fish room !!
  13. Blueandkim posted same time as me so I'll leave it at that.
  14. Kttk wrote As coelacanth said.... Sorry your understanding IS NOT CORRECT.
  15. They don't look like they have white spot to me.
  16. I would say 21C is not a problem, insulating your tank will help. I wouldn't get a 100w heater, another 50w if you must. If your worried that it will take up to much space leaving less room for your fish the tank would be over crowded. Whether a tank is over crowded or not is to do with the volume of fish to surface area of water, another heater will not affect this much. A slow temp drop at night is in fact the way to get some fish to spawn.
  17. GBS's are not the same species as common B/N. I have the same problem with my GBA's, only lately did I notice a pail dark patch on my females dorsal fin . What I'm doing about it is growing out some of my spawns with out black patches and choosing females to breed back to my male who is an assume fallow.
  18. I was going through my tanks today before feeding placing a couple of females in and out of traps. When I checked the albino out-cross ( they are identical to the albino's but tuxedo and gray's ) I thought they will need to be placed in traps tomorrow as they were really squared up nicely. Went out - came home checked the females in traps - then onto feeding, got to the albino out-cross and noticed 10 fry in the tank, placed both females in traps( as they were impregnated on the same day ) and now have around 20-30 fry. 1 female is 2/3 done the other has not begun to drop yet. As it is a sibling spawning and the adults are gray's I was expecting around 50% gray, 25% bloned and 25% albino ( any thoughts on that?? ). I only collected 10 fry of the original out-cross, all 5 females were yellow tailed, of the males 1 was a yellow tail ( now breeder ) the other 4 were yellow/red tailed. ( gave the other 5 to a friend ). I definitely have some albinos fry all look very large and healthy, the thing is I can't remember what the out-cross female was(other then a gray of cause) so have no idea what the fry will look like - I'm hoping for a nice surprise but will be happy if all are yellow tailed.
  19. The galaxy's came in under Raspora sp.
  20. There are a few things no longer on the list, nice fish but nothing to mager. What has change is that the old list allowed genes to be imported ( as I like killies i'll use them as an example ). All Aphyosemion's were allowed, as the Fundulopanchax genes was split from Aphyosemion's that means all Aphyosemions and Fundulopanchax were allowed this is a large number of species, now were only allowed to import 10
  21. I don't think Hypancistrus were ever on the list they just came in under Ancistrus sp.
  22. Your in CHCH, that PH is normal. If you fell you must bring it down the cheapest way is to collect rain water and use it to dilute water from the tap. Or you can take advantage of such a high PH and keep Africans as they will love it
