  1. Brine shrimp are Artemia, so what your using is working great.
  2. I was around at Billaney's the other week and I did not fell well at all, I think Barry White just may be considered cruel as I'm an animal.
  3. If you really want the fry to survive I'd keep them in the net for another month. Give them as much bbs as they will eat and they will grow fast.
  4. Yep, colour starts to show in glowlights after 4 weeks depending in there diet.
  5. Microworms, bbs or decap bbs, if you don't have any you may like to get some. They will eat powdered flake. You crush the flake between your finger tips wet it so it sinks then feed, you only need to feed just the tinyest pinch or maybe even less then that. Fry do feed better to begin with if their food hops or riggels that's why bbs or microworms are preferred. I find that fry are large enough to eat baby water fleas after a week or two when feed bbs, with the exception of a few species.
  6. The sure way to sex ram's is using the Black dot...... Males is black. Females black dot has spangles IN theirs. This will show even before the front rays of the males dorsal fin extend.
  7. Could it be your dageti were killed by the albino gardneri?? Gardneri can be aggressive until they settle down and or get used to there tank companions
  8. Yes there is a problem, They don't like moving house. In time they will settle down and stop (to a degree) jumping.
  9. You know that's not such a silly idea Zev. It would make it a lot easier, even if there were small corrections to be made.
  10. There is a tropical lilly here with a bright blue flower that propagates like that.
  11. I sure do Alan. The eggs have to be incubated in something so you may as well have a pot of peat in the tank for them to spawn in as well, then add any eggs found in the gravel to the peat once cleaned of other muck when siphoned.
  12. I would agree with what has been said already including getting rid of the Nitra-Zorb. But MAKE SURE you keep the water changes up every second day even if you don't fell like it or you think your readings are not that bad, IT WILL hopefully prevent ammonia burns on you fish gills and later nitrite poisoning until the ammonia, nitrite and nitrate readings are 0 in a month or so. Also I would feed you fish sparingly to keep the load on the bacteria low while not starving your fish. Good luck
  13. post couriers do have a policy of not shipping animals but some branches allow it. Your experience is common as said until they get to know you, There is no insurance for shipping fish, It pays to write on the box LIVE FISH, The last time I shipped I forgot to do it and yes that's right it took 2 days to arrive luckily it wasn't a frost and they survived. there was a topic not so long a go that mentioned many company's that will ship fish, try a search. Have read the sticky at the top of this forum on posting fish??, there are many hints and tips their.
  14. I think only Alan W. has done this before. I'm planing on building a second smaller room then the one I have 2msq. I will be made up of 3 wooden framed stands lined with 50mm thick poly. I've worked out that the construction will cost around $500.00 with most of that in $50.00 sheets of poly and around $165.00 for the frames. If this is going to be in your garage you may be able to do something similar, that is build a framed cabinet with door and just line it in thin MDF and thick poly.
  15. The reason I mentioned an air pump is - that will circulate the warm air around the cupboard and it will filter the tanks as well saving on a fan.
  16. Do you intend running sponge filters ( air pump )?
  17. You keep the finer peat that goes through the sieve.
  18. I intended coming HandS But I will need to apply for work leave, when do I need to be in Hamilton to bench fish I may like to enter in the show and when will all events finish?
  19. I didn't find Black widows light sensitive but they were prolific, hope you have a large raring tank, haven't deliberately spawned xray tetras so unsure but I don't think they are either.
  20. Yeah, mosts tetra's are not photosensitive, you didn't actually say what tetra? Either way the heaters light is fine.
  21. The male gets very excitable when close to spawning - you know it when you see it. Common B/N prefer CLOSED caves (only one opening), they will breed in open caves and for that matter in the open, if there is not a better site. But for consistent spawning and reducing stress on the male a closed cave is the way to go. Some use bamboo, others hole in wood and I use upside down 10-15cm terracotta pots with a notched lip only just large enough for the B/N to get in and out. I find if it's a young pair they will lay high in the pot(the male will disappear) , a large pair will lay on the bare glass( the male will be fanning in the cave opening, using his body to block the entrants )
  22. Yeah they can definitely breed at that size. Just keep them well feed allowing your female to put energy into egg production and a spawning will happen when they are ready.
  23. I breed SJO's and Notho's both ways, the sieve way is much more work as ej said but the advantages are you know exactly what you have. This can be handy if your relatively new to breeding Notho's as you will be able to see with out a doubt how well you are doing or not as the case may be. Good work matt man, keep it up and remember never stop breeding your Notho's as you never know when you may have a failed incubation.
  24. What matters when it comes to how many fish you can put in a tank is the surface area not how many Lt are in a tank. Often over crowded tanks run just fine, right up until the filter or aeration stops. Lots of small young fish will use much more O2 then full grown large fish that = the same volume of total fish. I don't think your tank will have way to many fish. By the way neons like it cool 18-22C, if you keep them hotter their 5 year life span will be much shortened, just because you want clown's in the tank. But in the end it is up to you as it is your tank. Good luck
  25. Aeration is the most critical factor then filtration. With a good filter that breaks the water surface as it returns to the tank to aerate the water would do the trick. I wouldn't add the clown loaches at all as they like it hot and are likely to get white spot at low temps and all your other fish prefer low to medium temps.
