  1. Yes a bit difficult. But I'll stick my neck out ---you have a pair. Last pic is male. wont I look silly if there both females
  2. Are you able to take pic's 100% side on??
  3. All Apistogramma would be fine. The problem with cichlids in community is if you have both sexes and the aggression that accrues during spawning and egg protection. If you wish to avoid this only select 1 sex of any species you choose. But a 300lt tank is a big tank for dwarf cichlids and depending on the other occupants there should be room for a pair.
  4. It would be good if you could find a similar analysis of the trusty white worm, I've tried with no success. 9.6% protein and 20% fat, thats a lot of fat and not much protein. But being nematodes I bet the fat content is high in fatty acids rather then saturated animal fats, it's a shame that factor is not broken down more.
  5. Sounds like you have a great live food culture going there mate.
  6. and the young fish look exactly like there mother.
  7. His fish are not Ahli as they are not quit correct and too colourful ( I have seen them ), he did buy them as imported Ahli. But they are not fryeri either from what I can compare them to. But they are very thin like ahli and are shallow through the gut, probably the closet to Ahli that we have here in that respect. They are very nice fish and is only selling them as purchased from a reputable shop. So I hope others don't go hard on him. Frenchy, the pic's I pm'ed you with are the breeders.
  8. Yup Afrikan is right on, they are Hyphessobrycon eques high Fin Serpae Tetra
  9. The microworms are real easy, there's 2 ways to culture them 1 lasts a long time and produces a nice amount the other way produces heaps and heap but does not last long at all and needs to be reset often. I used to have very good w/worm cultures then for some reason I just couldn't get them going, I seem to have sorted that out now by using just a basic medium and keeping them on the floor where it's cool.
  10. Yeah they do have small mouths. Baby micro worms seem to do the trick as well.
  11. The guy selling ??ahli?? ( you know ) on trade me had them, even if there not f1's there nice fish, cheap too for the size ( female is now 4cm - male 5.5cm, have grown at least 1cm since I got them )and growing fast now theres no competition for food.
  12. I mainly have South American's, so here's my list. Africans... pair red shoulder peacocks and 11 young, young pair of lionheads ( lionheads are supposedly f1 ) . Apistogramma... panduro, angel spot, biteaniata, cockatoo, baenschi aka inka 50, cf eunotus, unknown may be cruzi, trifasciata, agassizi, cf norberti and maulbruter. By the way any one know how largelion heads have to be before they are breeding size??

Yes Peter does go all over the place from time to time.
  14. Congratulations on the spawning, wow there a really nice pair and the females looks in really good nick only a week.
  15. If fish what ever type is imported and variant is important like Africans and killis unless it is blasingly obvious ( and even then it is dangerous )you can't give it a location name other then the year it was imported and any subsequent imports should be given a separate year to identtafiy them. And they should never be crossed unless there is NO other choose other then lossing them. This is the HARD stance used by killi breeders around the world and the same applies to Africans. I AM NOT TAKING ANY ONES SIDE, but I am a killi breeder and I live and die by that rule, NO EXCEPTIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. As it can only lead to confusion.

    Unwell Angel

Well if the tank is an established one and you had and an ammonia spike after cleaning you filter = you damaged the filters ability to process the ammonia. Your fish may have had damaged gills from ammonia burns or poisoning. At least it sounds like it, as you should never have an ammonia problem in established tank unless under exceptional circumstances, like introducing it or over cleaning your filter. *** I know young angel fish have a very low tolerance to ammonia.
  17. I wouldn't say it's common. But if my tigers were doing that I would think it would be the males doing it and they were in top spawning condition = have VERY RED snouts. by the way you didn't do a water change 1 or 2 days ago did you??
  18. All though there probably is farm run off in the water, it clearly isn't the problem if other tanks are ok. does that tank get more food then the other tanks?? - what is different about it, for eg how many cm of fish per lt, compared to your other tanks or are there many young fish eating a lot or does the substrate contain to much waste and needs a good clean ..... There are so many variables, it may be that tank gets more in direct light then the other tanks of similar parameters.
  19. Thats very interesting, but would really only work best if the tank had vigorous plant growth = co2system. And then would only be of use if the tank was way over loaded, or am I in error. Ryan -- 3 things 1,Are you using water from your DI unit?? if so it may be used up and contaminating the water. 2, if not, test the water you are using, it may be contaminated. 3, If the water is not contaminated then... as many water changes/week as you can manage may be helpful - thus flushing the excess nutrients from fish waste - this may take a little time depending on what is the problem... Bulls is surrounded of farm land so it is likely there are phosphates and nitrates in the tap water, the question is how much. So in the end if the tap water is the problem and you want to fix the problem you will be up for a UV or a R/O unit. R/O being the best choose.
  20. It depends on your purpose dude. If you are just using it on 1 panted tank then I don't think it is necessary. However if you have a multi tank system with a common filter then YES get one.
  21. Gourami fry are pigs, as they grow you will see. It is also good food for them so only remove what you need to, the rest is food for the little fish they will pick at it when hungry and your not home to feed them. It will also help to keep the water free of fish waste by using it to grow.
  22. If you wash the filters all the time the bacteria will not establish it self as your always washing it off + theres other factor like temp of tank water and tap water. but as you have 2 filters and you only wash 1 then the other will be doing the job. the 1 you wash is a power head. If your water is then fine ( only way to know is test for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate ) I still don't know what could be wrong. Could it, being that these are fancy guppys that the water flow in the tank is tyeing them out - to much water movement??... As that is a lot of filtration for a guppy tank, how big is the tank in cm's ( length = front, depth=front to back, hight =top to bottom)
  23. Thats strange they should be able to eat BBS as soon as they are free swimming. What about trying it now there a little older? You may like to get some microworms as well, the liquid in a culture contains the baby worms that can be used next time. No matter how hard you try I always find some fry escape the siphon.
  24. I wonder if thats a world record??
