With all due respect to Rodney and his efforts in Christchurch, I this this Killifish should not be called Akure any more. I bought some recently and got 2 different males, this in it's self is fine as there is a natural variation in this species, however one of the males looked like a P82, this is Not what any Akure is supposed to look like any any of it's natural forms. He admitted to adding P82 bloodlines into the strain after the ChCh earth quake. This is understandable if it was a choice of loosing them or using the P82's, but it does mean the name "Akure" is no longer accurate. What's more Akure is a Fundulopanchax clauseni gardneri Akure, where as P82's are Fundulopanchax gardneri P82 So they really should be called a generic name like Fundulopanchax sp., just in case a pure form of Akure comes in again. They are really nice

I don't know if I like you Blue Tigers mate. The body colour is great, really really nice. But man what's with the tail! It so dark it distracts my eye from the rest of the fish, that needs improving if you can. I did not realise your Blonde tigers were So nice. They are Not Boring at all. I really like the "negative effect" of the missing black bars of the Tigrinus gene. Don't Dump them, send them to me. As for the Magenta x Red Chest fish you didn't mention if they were F0 or F1's? Or if the magenta you used were Heterozygous or homozygous. Or how mature they are. Solid metal like colouring with a blue'ish hue. Only 2 choices really don't you think. I didn't take the time to work out what was causing a similar look in the Pink mutation Guppies I had. But it was likely to be an Autosomal recessive gene as it turned up in the F1's >> I think it was leading in the direction of either Micariff or Storzbach. But which I don't know, and I don't think you will be interested in finding out. Unless your hedging on Storzbach?? Stu

I wouldn't really call them tail shapes, rather genes that affect the growth of fin rays ( Swallow ) or webbing ( Merah ) as both also effect fins other then the tail. :smln:

Not really tested, however as you know most Tail shape gene's are on the X chromosome. For members reading this and not versed in guppy colour gene's please note the Grass gene ( black specks in the tail resembling grass seeds ) is well known to be X linked ( = on the Female Chromosome ). The original imported male, a "Pink Lady Guppy" - could also be named an AOC ( Any Other Colour ) Japan blue Red Grass or plainly a Japan Blue Red Grass Guppy, has a delta Tail The Mother was suspected to be a HM or OHM ( Over half Moon ) , please realise the fish are not flaring their tails showing it's true shape. Here is one of the Males I kept, as you can see his tail has a very different shape from it's father. And as he is clearly carrying the Japan Blue Gene and the females are not related the J.B Gene must be on the Y chromosome in this case ( It can also be X linked ). Here is another picture. It was supposed to be a son of an AOC Chilli Red frilled OHM Guppy, In stead I ended up with a Chilli Red Platinum, the only thing I can think happened is the female was impregnated prior to being imported and I was super lucky. So back to your Question, No, but All the fish breed to these females develop a HM / OHM tail. As far as I know there are no tail shape genes that are Autosomal (Autosomal genes are genes not Sex Linked and past on to fry irrelevant of sex ) - all are sex linked X or Y, there for it would suggest the HM Gene is X linked. Do you agree ?

The Japan blue's are X linked H/M.

Nothing a scalpel can't fix alanmin4304, The way it works is you run 2 strains and cross the normal male into the female Swallow, a bit of a snip does work. I've seen Platinum magenta albino's swallows selling for $35.00USD + for a reverse trio ( swallow male and female + a normal male ), so some one must like them. :fshi:

If using sea water I'd dilute it by 25%, for best results. Or you could just use ordinary NZ Plain salt, it's sea salt and works great.

This is a young Blonde Platinum Magenta. The next step is to add the albino gene which will remove the dark pigments emphasising the Pink of Blonde Magenta.

Some (poor colour examples, but still pretty) Pink lady guppies were imported recently, there may be some still around. They have the Japan blue gene( don't know if they're an X or Y trait JB ) + X linked lace gene.

And some Panda Guppies. The Round Tails were re-generated from an imported Male, The long Fin Spear Tail's I made from an imported German Blue Moscow that I got off Cesar. Both Strains contain the Blonde Gene. Long Fin Spear Tail's Same fish with a Flash - check out the Females Dorsal fin above the Male Long Fin Female The Blonde Males are Long Fin's. The Grey Male is a Round Fin

Think I had the last of them, which is a little funny as I was the one to breed them up and spread them around. I acquired an old pair, got eggs and fry before the adults died ( King's only live for between 2 and 2.5 years ). Then the waiting game began as the male is infertile for the first 10 months. Before I got to that stage my fish room heater locked on and cooked EVERYTHING, even the unwanted snails and duck weed. By by King Killies - they were imported last over 10 years ago and came from Germany. They are on the allowed list, but the name is miss spelt so it is unlikely they will be imported for some time!

Your Tails are way better then mine &c:ry Ok, I'll share a few pictures of my fish. This HB Pastel is a one off, he fell out of a Gold Platinum line out cross. He contains 1 copy of the Mg gene which is Autosomal recessive so I can not breed him back to the Gold line as this will double up the Mg gene and turn his sons Platinum, Sorry pic's a little out of focus. This is my Adult Male Blau.... A few years back German Blue Moscows and Tuxedo Neon Blue Females( no males ) were imported. The Neon Blue Females had rubbish shaped tails so I crossed the 2 lines hoping to put the Moscow tail on the neon blue's. The above fellow is an F2 from the original Fry. Here is some of his sons, I've already removed the red tailed fish ( Fish in this line with out the Blau Gene have Fully Red Tails with specks )... As a result these guys are also Moscows, you can see the influence of the Moscow Gene in the solid coloured Chests even though it may appear there is no colour on the heads. It's a cruel shame the Blau gene is Autosomal semi-dominant and the Adult Male can not be made into a Pure/True breeding strain.

Yes that female could be a blau but not Tuxedo, my X blau are only about 1.5cm so I can't be sure yet of any thing other then there sex, the tuxedo in albino makes the peduncle colourless and when mixed with the mg and or a saddle gene makes a canvass for the platinum to reflect off, remember I have injected the Mg gene into the line I'm wanting to create. I don't see why it should not turn out how I wish, I have all the ducks lined up in a row so to speak, however it is the first time I have actually tried this with a preconceived out come( if you don't count making Panda Guppies - they're much easier ) in mined/ the knowledge of how the gene's should react together when combined. I have a snakeskin albino that I thought was a top sword, but now he has matured there is a hint of lower sword to spoil the look , I do have a nice ( long ) lower sword that fell out of the double sword breedings ( doubles are not going well shape wise ). His colour is nothing flash but his lower sword I would love to fix as a strain even if the colour didn't change - it is so long.

It's easy if you have the knowledge in books to read! the question is whether you're prepared to fork out the $$ to read them. There is a PDF E-Book that costs around $13.00 USD called "Colour Strains" that gives the reader a big in site on what colour gene's make different strains + why they look the way they do + interplay between Colour genes and how they work.
