  1. It's been a great year and everyone has been a lot of help. Next year we will try not to let the Zeov.... up set some and just accept it as an other fish keeping method. (no don't reply to the Ze... comment!!!!!) Merry christmas everyone and happy new year. long live the fish (my sister is visting and want to know if I can talk about anything other than my tank... I guess not.
  2. Well on the investment front I brought gold futures at $390 / ounce and gold is going to the moon over the next 10years. US $ is not in good heath and they are priniting the stuff like water which is not good for the US$ and all other currenies want to be cheap also. $1600 + Gold
  3. yes thanks... I dug for 15min but no worms and gave up!
  4. Wow thank you all.. If you are reading this then I think you. You are a true enthusiasts and care about this hobby. I got home (6pm) to find my anemone STILL behind the rock and all shrivelled up. The wife said it was not like this when she got home! (I had been at Hollywood North Shore and having never been there before had to buy something… new clam… OH my only clam (tight wife) and realised my MH are too low at 60mm, theirs are way high at 200mm, I have lifted mine too 170mm as soon as I got home without looking at anything else. Then I look at the tank. 250watt x 2-MH)But who can you trust, not the wife – she know nothing… (but usually right at my house) in the marine world. So the anemone is still behind the rock all shrivelled up and I freak. I can’t wait for a thread on the web. I need answers NOW. So I decided it ring around for help with fellow reef owners (people I have only meet once or not at all) and no one was at home, but within 20min two people had rang (only phoned two) offering help. Wow now that is support!!!! Back to the point. A shrivelled up anemone is rather boring / annoying and cost $95 and everyone said DON’T move so I did not…But it came back to life and blow up all nice behind the rock! I tried to feed it and it closed up around my twisters and dropped the food again and I expect this is normal. I removed the tweezers and it dropped the food but it look like it tried. Still behind the rock. After a while it was looking great behind the rock so I turned the rock around, so I CAN SEE IT and are now waiting. It’s little mouth (jailbirds bum looking) closed right up to my size. Law abiding, good person. Moved my stream and created a little whorl pool in front of the anemone. It looks very happy with its foot dug in tight. So time will tell if it is happy and does not move AGAIN. So a rather large softy is now behind the rock… I’ll cut it off if anemone does not move. Ha the clown fish are rubbing the spot the anemone was.. That’s dumb! Chee
  5. Well its still under the rock... day two.... How long do I leave it there?
  6. Will do. No it was a healthy brown colour. I'll buy some white bait tomorrow and see how it goes.
  7. I purchased it from Hollywood on Saturday. It has been moving around the same rock since. I was thnking of moving him again but it apperas the best thing to do is leave it alone. I have not tried to feed it as all the research I have read states that over feeding is one of the biggest killers. It look nice and healthy when I got it and we don't have the dyeing issuies others have overseas (I hope). How long can they go without light? I have one PH in the tank a stream which is in the top corner of the tank away from any rock. It would have to climb the glass to reach it. So I'm keeping a close eye on it. How do you tell if it dies and when to remove it? How long will it need to be in my tank to cause a problem if it does not make it. I don't feel I have done anythng wrong but are worried all the same. Will the clown fish cause it any problems at this stage?
  8. My tank is well established and I have good light (new MH 2 x 150w) over 4ft tank. Water condition is good, I tested it yesterday and its all good. My KH is still a little low at 6 Calcum is 460 So as far as water conditions I like to think my tank is very good, so I hope this little fellow will be OK. Must say my Tomato is in very happy.. time will tell.
  9. I have added a Sebae anemone to my tank and it has moved around a bit and now is sitting under a rock jamed in to a crack. It can't get any light. My Tomato clown has a new home which is good but I'm worried about the Sebae. Should I lift the rock and move the anemone or let it find its own spot, it has been in my tank 2 days. Thanks for te advice...
  10. Dam that is good....Well done wasp!! Time for bed... na one more post.

    Massive crab

I think I might have made a mistake. I added a couple of hermit crabs and a small crab to my tank from the beach a couple of months ago. The hermits are doing great and I'm going to get them some new shells in the weekend. But I have not seen the crab for a long time. Last night I turned on a light to look at the tank after lights out and saw the crab. It was huge. Started out about the size of a 10c but now is much bigger than a 50c. Have not seen it since but this this was massive. What do I do? I have a chiller and the tank runs at 25C... should I slowly increase temp and cook the thing? It will die before evrything else. Just a thought but not a serious one. looked like such a good idea at the time!!! This thing might eat me shrimps and coral and eveything else. I have only seen it once so a picture is not on.
  12. Well put... can't add anything to that $$$$$$ +$$$ for good measure. Oh forgot the upgrade after a year $$$ Go Dad.. a great hobby for father and son.

    Catch a dottyback

Add a coal bandit shrimp... mine killed my gobby.
  14. Great I'll add the baking soda each day and monitor results and let you know. Cheers
  15. Streams and anemones Will an anemone turn in to mince with a steam in my tank?
  16. KH 6 calcum still over 500 does that sound better
  17. Sorry can't help but it does not sound good. Hope your clown gets over this.
  18. My tank is looking good and the hair algae has stopped growing and is easy to remove now. I checked my calcum level and it was 500+ with my test kit, 60 was my Kh and ph is 8.1-8.3. Waht is the defferance between Kh mg/l which my kit tests? What is TN? My sps are starting to show green colours which is a first. Your food is great still got heaps left thanks. Never feed my fish so little but they look ok. Blue tang is not skinny so I'm feeding the right amount, goes to show what over feeding can do. Also got my skimmer working properly, sucked hot water through the air suction pipe and what a differance. I have a deltec 1250 skimmer. Have been doing weekly water changes and adding no additives. Thanks for the help I very pleased.
  19. Never seen my Trigger show any agro toward any of my tank mates, but I have seen the bi-colour have a go at the shrimp. Keven in Beahlands also had a bi-colour (big barstard) and he's a shrimp eater. So that good enough for me. My bandit has gotten his claws back a couple of times before but lost them the very next day. Dump thing walks around like hes god when he has his claws but hides in the corner when they have gone. Mind you he might have learned this time. I know if some one kept eating my arms I would change.
  20. I have descided to replace my 4foot arcadia T5's with a set of aradia series 3- twin 150w MH which also has the 2 x T5's. I have found the T5's ok but everyone knows how it goes. Oh I would love some MH's once I purchaed the T5's. Every thing is growing well under T5's as most of my tank is softies. I have a couple of hard corals near the top which are doing well but can't wait for the MH's. Brought them off trade me for $640... Hollywood $1750. very pleased See everyone you just have to keep looking and a good buy turns up. Now I need to sell my T5's.... anyone?

    Hermit crabs

I added several weeks ago a few hermit from the beach, they stir up the sand real good. They make little mounds all over the place. Not sure if they are all alive but most seem to be. Cool to watch. Also added a small brown hairy looking crab and he walks about all day. Seems to be doing real well. No idea what it is or how large it will get. Has anyone else trid hermit with any suscess? I have a chiller set at 24deg
  22. Well my coarl bandit has all his claws back..... but no bi-colour gobby. He has gone. So my guess is after the fight were my bandit lost his claws and most of his legs the bi-colour got a hiding. The poor bandit had enough legs to stand and eat just. Did not notice the bi-colour missing until last week and we have not seen him since. I blamed the missing claws on my trigger but I guess not. I have reduced my feeding to a quater of what I used too and trigger was not gone looking for a shrimp dinner! Room for a manderin now.
  23. Wasp I'm sending another water sample today can you please test it and let me know. Thanks
