  1. I am looking to drilling 2 x 50mm holes in the back of my tank which is on order with Greg. He does not have a 50mm drill so I will need to look at options. Keven has 40mm hole for his overflow and a 8000l/hr pump and he had to turn it down because the overflow could not handle the water flow. This is the reason I am going with 50mm holes and 40mm piping. Would be a pain in the ass to try and make it bigger when it is too small.
  2. Sorry about the loss... what did your insurance company say. I am interested in their response.
  3. We had a power cut lasting 11hrs just before christmas, I had purchased a 600w - 850W peak two stroke generator from Super Cheap Autos for $169. We used this to run the main tank pump, a small raido and a bed side light. I did not need to worry about the temp but a 150w would not have been an issuie. No good if you are not at home. Is it possible to have an inline divice which will phone your mobile if the power goes off? Simular to a alarm setup. Then all you have to do is contact someone and ask them to start up the generator or reset the RCD.
  4. Or two heads... which means two mouths.
  5. Just a quick comment, Jansens have taken many fresh water fish that my y Oscars did not like (old tank) and the odd salt fish with out too much problem (creadit towards next fish but not 100% - I think that is fair) I like the Jansens service and find HFF a little too hard to deal with some times, other time they are great 50% call. Another jansens store went out of their way when I rang them with a leaking tank at 5pm in a panic, they were wonderful in helping replace my tank as the fish lived in the bath. To be honest it is taking the time to talk to me that is important as I often just call in too look and if there is somthing cool then the wallet comes out, but not every time.
  6. By the way I have not tried this and found it on the net.
  7. Has anyone tried this method? The straw method. I have come up with my own method. It appears to be the safest and surest way to remove the aptasia. The cost is that of a stick of Two Little Fishy epoxy and a clear straw. You can go to McDonald's or Burger King and buy a shake to get one of these high tech straws. I came to this method because every time I tried to plug an aptasia in a hole it would find a new hole to peek out of. Here is the procedure. Cut a piece of straw to about 1 inch. Use the epoxy putty to stick the straw onto where the aptasia is peeking out of. This will eventually lead the anemone out of the rock and into the straw to peek its tentacles out to capture food and light. Once you see the anemone has moved out of the rock and into the straw tunnel, remove the straw with the anemone in it. Safe and effective. At least I have good results using this method. I hope this straw method helps a few people rid their tanks of this pest.
  8. I made that stand and the tank is not up and running. It is in place and the other tank is the the shed.

  10. Slappers - is the hole you drilled 32mm? Where did you get the fittings? Do you have a flange on both sides?
  11. What size hole should I drill in the bottom of my over flow for my new tank? 1450 x 750 x 700 ? I have seen a nice fitting at Bunnings which is 25mm outside and 18mm in side hole which would work nice, too small? Return pump is a Ehim 1260 I will be using two streams also wired parrell with a extra connection plug.

    Magnesium

I am assuming that you add magnesium chloride to your top up water and add it to your sump? How much do you add at a time / 100L?
  14. Are the emperor angels reef safe? and what size tank would you need to have one. Do they eat shrimp. My guess is Angel means maybe and possible yes to my questions but I'm not sure.

    up grade bug

Pies do recommend having elbows on the bottom or stright out? Do I need two 1260's ? That will mean I have three pumps in the sump...
  16. What is your best water spill in your house? Who's tanks are on carpet? Would you have a tank on carpet?
  17. I have a pair of tomato clowns which are BAD they attack my hand in the tank with passion. Is this normal? The lay eggs often and jump out of the water as i vaccum and the water level drops. Snap at my hands non stop. Evil evil things..... wife will not put her hands in the tank..
  18. KH is 6 ... very low but Calcum and PH are fine. What do I use to raise it and will a low KH affect a anemone?

    up grade bug

I like the 1450L x 750W x 700 H tank of Keven's and are going to up grade to the same size as I have the same 2 x 150MH, I am also going to use my 4 x T5 setrup (which I was ment to see to sell to pay for the 150's but I hid them instead) and are assuming this will be enough light. Comments please!! Sump 900L x 600W x 450H (Keven's new sump size) Hope he does not have a copy right on his measurments. The question is "closed Loop" I'm thinking 1 x 1260 for sump return and 1 x 1260 too supply 2 x sqiuds all in the sump and 4 x holes across the back of the tank with elbows in differnt directions. Will 1 x 1260 power two squids? Also 1 x streem in tank. Is this enough flow? I was looking at a quater up from the bottom of the tank or random in the back (2 x high, 2 x low) Also told the wife (1 week over due with small person) that I can sell my current tank and stand for $500 which will pay for the new tank and home made stand... cost $1200 from Holywood (that is what you do when you are a new salty) (4ft) so do you think I can do it? plus extra squids and pump ( hide on visa, learned from this site) all the rest I have. Will a Deltech 1250 skimmer rated at 1000L do a good job on 900L? No reactors but zeovit..... (don't stress the zeo..)

    New Tank project

I hope the stand holds up.....
  22. I have noticed that when I vacuum my tank using 8mm airline, siphon method I can create quite a good suction which suck the little bugger up, neally. The whole body is sucked up the tube but the foot hold is too good. I think I need MORE suction and goodbye aipstasia. I thought about a pump but cavitation will be an issuie, so I am looking at using compressed air / venture as a method of creating some serious suction on a small tube. I have found a suitable air water gun which will do to start the trials and will purchase it next week. The idea is to put the tube (6-10mm dia) close to the vermin and pull the trigger and create super suction instantaneously and suck the little bugger out of the rock. comments and ideas please
