  1. Yeap I know, I'm planning to do a water change 24 hours after I dose it to get rid of all the dead bodies :-? thanks though
  2. I've only used a few internals before but I've found the old style Eheims to be great. They're almost twice the price of that one though :-? Maybe a bit of overkill for some secondary filtration.
  3. Hard to tell if they are or not, but I'd say they probably are. The area directly around the castle (the favourite hiding place for three of them and where the eggs were laid) has noticably less algae than other less-frequented areas. Most of the tank isn't as bad as the filter though, I think it just bears the brunt of it because it's closer to the light. No idea how many fry there are this time, really hard to count em with them scooting under driftwood and into hiding places. 7+ though, more than the last spawn of two
  4. I've been going light on the water changes for the sake of the Golden Ancistrus babies in there, that's probably the cause I guess. Hope they enjoy their last day on earth - copper sulfate here I come
  5. Ok so I'm encouraging algae growth in my Golden Ancistrus tank to feed them for free. I've got a tonne of snails that've taken up residence as well, but also, more disturbingly, some little wriggly white worms. I plan on getting some copper sulfate (invertibrate killer) tomorrow and wiping them out, but just out of interest, anyone know what they are? They tend to hang out on the algae on the glass from what I've seen.
  6. Well the next lot has hatched and they're out and about. Here's a pic of what used to be my internal filter too, I'm assuming it's still in there somewhere underneath all the algae.
  7. To answer your question though, yes, it'll do fine.
  8. Yeah it sounds like Blue's missing the presence of a member of the opposite sex and is making do with Mickey.
  9. Return the cory to the shop, ask for a bristlenose like you wanted. Bring your reciept if you still have it.
  10. What other fish are in the tank? How often to do you do water changes? What are the pH, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate readings?
  11. It couldn't hurt to add some cycle if you've got some spare. Add the fish ASAP so all the bacteria doesn't die out with nothing to eat.
  12. btw Graeme the Jewels he's talking about are your ones I finally convinced him to join the forums.
  13. Me personally, I'd take the money.
  14. You could try slowly adding the cichlids but then rearranging the tank when they're all in there so their territories get messed up.
  15. Golden Black Eyed B/N are just normal tropicals. Or at least I hope they are - I keep mine at about 23.5c, getting up to 26 in the day (tank's in the sun) and they've spawned twice already You might want to also consider getting some Otocinclus ("Oto's") or some kind of plecostomus (though some plecos eat less algae with age)
  16. Carbon is used in Saltwater tanks and as far as I know they haven't been unittingly converted to freshwater.
  17. Khulis and Clowns would be fine companions but they don't eat much algae. Recommend the Bristlenoses too.
  18. My latest (and first) batch of sword tail fry are a little easier to count...all three of them :-? Are all of those from the same female, Billaney?

    Fish Food

I'll thank you not to speak of Bing crosby in that fashion. But seriously, animals do binge eat. Empty an entire container of food into one of your tanks, see if it gets eaten or if the fish simply say "No thanks, I'm full, I'm not going to eat any more". It's just horrible reading your posts though, seriously, if you're going to try and wield words like "therefore" at least learn to spell. "Each animal, plant, tree and insect has its own roll" - that one really cracked me up. IN CLOSING I USED TO FEED MY AFRICAN JEWEL CICHLIDS CRICKETS, SPIDERS AND YOUNG GUPPIES.
  21. Couldn't hurt to get it bigger, it just means more media and because it's air operated the flow won't be increased with size, if anything it will be less direct.
