  1. How many do you have again Caper? If I recall correctly it was two or three. It might just be that they're getting a little nervous, fish lose their colouring when they do. See what everyone else thinks.
  2. Like Caryl said it's common in new tanks where as it will disappear on it's own once the tank gets a bit older. I've got a bit of it in a relatively new tank of mine and when it gets too bad I just use a washcloth and wipe it off.

    Spawning

Uhh what fish are you talking about?
  4. If I were you I wouldn't treat it with chemicals. Why not just wipe it off with a washcloth?
  5. I would have thought the sun, even millions of miles away, would be more intense than a 40w bulb.
  6. The tank was just over 20c so it was within the comfort zones for each fish. Secret to good photos = Dad's $1000 camera
  7. I've got a couple of Aquaclear 70's and have found them to be quite good, easy to put third party resins etc in and they offer good aeration. Haven't had any problems with them. Got both my Aquaclears, 2 other filters, 4 heaters and a heap of plants for $10 second hand 8)
  8. Caper here's a pic of one of mine that I used to have
  9. Channeled Apple Snails are also yellow/gold though and they're plant-friendly.
  10. I've heard of an apple snail eating a live Siamese Fighter before! Maybe that was just really hungry though.
  11. Just make sure you put the snail in with the fry after they're free swimming. I had an Apple Snail that I put in with some just-hatched baby convicts and the moment I put him in there I saw him eat like three right away
  12. How much did you get it for? Jansens Botany here in Auckland has a couple usually. The price on the tank just says "Arm + Leg"
  13. Not true MRSkz, a lot of people think that when they get them and the Axolotls usually just die when they try and force them out of water :-?
  14. Yes Caryl they usually do require hormone injections but sometimes (like 1 in 1000) they spontainiously metamorphisize. Vimmer's right about them being almost extinct in the wild, it sucks :-?
  15. Apparently you only need to fence/get permission to build a pond if it's more than 40cm deep. Like that makes sense, I mean people can drown in like an inch of water. Probably a little much for me to except logic from the City Council though.
  16. Hmmm. The council built a huge pond in a local park, it's right next to a pathway, about 3m deep and completely unfenced. Talk about hypocrisy.
  17. Yeah, have either convicts, or plants & the other fish. Not both, the convicts would destroy pretty much everything.
  18. Does anyone know if you have to get permission from the Auckland/Manukau City council to build a pond? I called them to ask but just got transferred around to people who knew nothing. If noone here knows I'll give ringing them another try, not looking forward to it.
  19. Don't be so hard on yourself Caper, a lot of plants are really easy to keep. Try getting some Java Fern or Java Moss, they don't even need to be planted! Talk about zero maintainence
  20. Yeah Swordtails would be good if you didn't want them having too many babies. Cardinal tetras are another option, I had a school of 20 with my pair and they were fine. All of them but one died of white spot in one day though, was kind of scary because my clown loaches were fine and they had been in the tank for ages, no reason for them to just kick the can but they did.
  21. dee_jay I used to have two female Mollies that looked exactly like that! What are the odds eh? I didn't have a male though, and they started biting each other - they would always spaz out and splash a lot after they were bitten and then one day the White one disappeared. I assumed it jumped and my cat got it. Gave the orange/black one to a friend of mine who has some males.
  22. Yeap, ok, enough of this then. That's it on that subject. If I find the weights I'll do likewise.
  23. I wasn't referring to my actual quote, I was talking about the pseudo quote "high qaulity food", which you made to look like mine that wasn't Ah, I see you've edited it accordingly (I did click the quote button, not type it all out by hand, I didn't touch what you said originally.) To quote you "I've obviously proved my point if all you can do is pick apart my spelling". I don't point out all of your spelling and grammatical errors because I don't have all day. Mate. Yes, me must just be lucky. Like I mentioned right after that quote though, having more than one culture eliminates even the possibility of damage in the unlikely event of a crash. Glad to hear it'll be 'taking under advisement'. I know complete literacy's a big ask, but we all must have something to strive for.
