    ph leval

most fish will tolerate a good range of PH, africans exception, maybe discus too but i wouldnt worry about conditioners. do small water changes. i am sure its more the temp change that killed your tetra as opposed to a slight ph change
  2. i dont believe so water change is nitrate removing. amonia will be dependant on your filtration but im sure its ok its the tank size and the type of fish put plants perhaps but mainly, its jsut the nature of discus
  3. i dont think it will make much difference if you put them in a cycle. i reckon just mix bio media, and run it in same tank, normally. that will be fine
  4. but 6 small fish produce a higher spike of waste than 3 big ones. smaller fish have higher metabolism so waste gets produced quicker in a shorter amount of time also, the tank is small, sometimes they can be ok but discus is agro by nature, like all cichlid really one will always take the slack there is always one dominant cure? bigger tank, some plants. OR double the amount of fish b ut in that tank, its hard.
  5. just run the filter on the same tank, same effect better yet, mix teh bio media, split it 50 50 an run it in the same tank. over feed the fish slightly, and do regular water changes it will extablish in no time if you plan on expanding soon. i suggest to plan ahead at any given time, i have enough bio media for 2 to 3 small to medium canisters...... 'jsut in case' haha .... im a freak.... anyways
  6. if they are big enough yes if the bichirs are small enough yes if they are both large........maybe i have a massive ornate, and big bichirs, 10 to be exact with 2 big BGKs, they are fine. in fact, BGK become less shy and compete for food. they eat pellets, shrimp and beef.
  7. i think botled cycling stuff doesnt work as well and still tends to spike parameters. Personally, seeding or just the natural course of time. I would personally get the tank, get the filter going and get 3 to 5 cheap bronze comets. Then use the comets as a form of cycler.... feed them a moderate amount. You will most likely get amonia - thats ok, they are hardy and will help cycle your tank. do regular small water changes daily to ensure they dont die, and it will cycle rather quickly.
  8. agreed, must move to bigger tank asap. or else you will not get its full potential i guess some train of thought would say thats ok to easier manage its size.........but why get a monster if it will never be one??
  9. ok how do i get one? PM ME PLEASE WITH A PRICE thanks
  10. yeah love the whiskers! wish we had that here lol do we have that here?
  11. welcoem to the CK club!! CKs are under rated, most ly probably cos they are pigs and they grow large and most peole cant house them. how big is your tank? what else is with it. anyways, ho pe itseating pellets. i have 2 CKs in same tank, one is not gonna grow more, stunted due to injury when little. the other is a high spot specimen - getting larger byt he day!! going for 45plus cm:D very timid fella i liek the patterns on yours! the two spots above each other they will get bigger as they get older and i find they always develop a few more when they get 30cm plus. anyways, just some questions cos im curious DIET? TANK MATes and tank size? here is a vid with my ones in. love clown knives! in this vid are also 2 large BGKs
  12. yes eating very well healed now. it doesnt like peeled raw prawns, chews them, so i started feeding prawn with shell, i just take off the spines in head and tail.... loves the shell. cheap too. 11;99 per kg, frozen whole raw vannamei prawns
  13. i somewhat agree with david, tsn and RTC are huge, they get huge! therea re plenty of monster cats out there that dont get as huge its similar to having PACU and ARAPAIMA in LFS - its riduclous, really, the logistics of keeping them long term is difficult, most would never infvest in set ups that are able to house them. in asia, they are kept mainly in ponds when large, kept with aros and other monsters. here, we dcant do that.
  14. redtail cat... yes - your tank will be too small, its a solid 1 Metre plus pparently, when they get that huge, they get thick, heavy, probably upwards of 40 kgs. ID shark, yes - your tank may be just enough. but not sure if you can actually get it, it might belong to someone elwse already. saw it years ago.
  15. the entire system is 2500 litres. Turnover is average 350 to 400 litres per day over 24 hours trickel fed. how does one get the chem right in this set up? excel is no problem, i can buy a large bottle - problem is how much do i use as the turn over is so rapid. if i go with the option: crypts and twisted val are unaffected completely. i acn make a move to those plants and retainly the amazons that are unaffected. then at the sme time put bba eating fish.... would this work perhaps? or is it a trial and error thing? lol its not practical for me to separate the systems.
  16. i dont mind getting sae at all. i will look around for it problem is that some plans are so overwhelmed, that i am thinking of starting again. but i can also trim leave with really bushy BBA and let the plant recover while sae keps it in control. My tank, video was on here. you can see the extent, how many sae should i have?
  17. second chance, a good chance! awesome, arowana, is the best fish in the world!!! Yes i said that:D hahaha 8) i have 3 now! Jar, RTG and Black. one day, a silver comm - maybe in a really big tank. 3000 Litres plus. I hvae a perfect piece of wood for it
  18. mmmm ornate pim!! they were supposed to come in, but fell through. priced at rouglhy 200 each. apparently no one was interested. IM LIKE!! no!!!!
  19. problem is that the tank requires lots of food. how many SAE should i get? and get them as small as possible? or large ones? So SAE will hvae a black line all the way tot he end of the tail? HFF should know the difference right?
  20. oh ok. so you do recommend getting the SAE? also known as black line flying fox? is tha right? why do people tell me they get lazy? so even with abundance of food in the tank, they shouldnt get lazy?
  21. awesome! love the eel and cigars is that a new green?
  22. as you knwo my tank is high turn over, and putting liq ferts is useless. i have clay balls i have a massive black algae problem. looks like ANubias, Java fern and half my amazons are infected. BUT twisted val is untouched and throving!! i dont mind the look of them, but love amazons. some amazons are thriving, some are overwhelmed. last ditch attempt to save the amazons as they are deteriorating, growth slowed and they are dying slowly i can see. option 1 is to replace the heavily overwhelmed plants with alot of twisted val, love the twisteds - they look nice and carpet. but, wondering, what fish can i put that will relentlessly eat black beard someone told me siamese algae eaters eat them when small but when bigger they get lazy and eat pellets. David suggested OTTOs, are they common? How about bristlenoses? anything that i can put in there that will consume it? if not, then i dont believe i have a choice but to cull the plants that are heavily infected and put vals that wont get them on it, it seems to be immune to their effect, weird.
  23. sorry, what od you mean, can you explain? haha, in case in future if i have more than one, i dont want to get two males that will fight maybe, and curious if its easy
  24. albino sailfin, how do you tell gender?
