  1. jagers are the only way to go. Cheap but i have never had one fail that i personally bought brand new myself. cheapest i would go is aqua one. best value for money but jagers are good. also they keep temps tighter - thermostats are better than cheaper chinese ones.
  2. yeah, may reduce water change and lighten feeding for a few weeks while its brown. i foudn when i put IAL in the tank, and it gets dark - fish acti differently. like with discus, they seemed mroe active and le3ss why. re wet? you mean the peat it self or once you boil, you cant re use can you? so, i boil the peat, get all the stuff out of it. Then sift it so i get the solid chunks out. water acts as a additive like taht black water extract really. then add to the tank as i need? then no need to put the peat itself in the system right? oak, dry the oak leaev first? or just wet into the wateR? Also - oak, there is only one type of oak right? no different types? never used oak leaves before.
  3. boiling it wont destroy the good stuff in it. i know teh acids and tannins in the peat has some goodies in it right? well indian almost leaf does anyways. so really, pre soak it somewhere and then put the juice in the tank? i was considering putting multiple bags in the tank - but less in each bag so water diffuses through quicker. i want a darker colour, not just a light brown - its for the aro tanks wtih clowns in nit. so boiling the peat wont turn the chems into something bad?
  4. waterbrowning but not very dark problem sit aht cos the peat is a bit dry, it floats. its in a stocking back and it seems that water is not absorbing into it. i dont wanna waste canister filter space for this, any ideas how to get the brown stuff to leech quicker so its dark?
  5. do you put it in the canister? i dont wanna waste space in my canister with peat. i dont see how the peat will get enough movement in it to dissipate the tannins
  6. with my tanks i mean:P
  7. put a bag of peat today in my smaller tank - water browning, peat is still floatingso i had to put a rock in the bag to sink it. using yates peat moss. i called them they said its pure peat no additives. see how i go, hope its ok! i like the brown look
  8. 5000 is enough just needs to keep flow going to the end of tank towards the 'open field' then the flow should settle. thats all im after. the clowns and pleco are more active cos of the pumps. its awesome!
  9. yeah, i believe it did rip that idea off i like the magnet mount, suction cups tend to go soon after being in water. even eheim suction cups suck!
  10. jsut to make it clear it does fail if you tu8rn it on and off frequently. but if its on the whole time should be ok? i mean look, if i get 2 years life out of one, with out turning it on and off, i am happy its so cheap! i have via aquas still working fter 7 years! just confirming:D also why do you need one for wavemachine?
  11. freshwater riverine system no on and off, it will be on the entire time. bar power cuts of course. thats waht i read on reviews too.... but i also read that they were powerful ifn ot same sometimes over rated compared to tunze, not sure if thats true. but someone did say on and off is not good for them. apart from that, i dont see a problem, feedback is good though!
  12. HFF will ship to you im sure they are cheap and easy to source. you should get an arowana instead
  13. http://www.deepblueaquarium.co.nz/Equip ... un102a.JPG i guess feed back vs tunze of same design. i know you get wbhat you pay for, but thsee are simple machines, its a third the price. any feedback?
  14. the flagtails c an grow to 30 cms. takes a while, they tend to get growth spurts as opposed to steady growth like an aro. love the jar! love them all actually lol yeah saw that, 900 for a jar, considering there are still some at teh importers retailing at 400 or so, 900.... maybe its a special jardinii that has a vocabulary of a parrot.
  15. if you have a shed you can put them there and breed them there i guess.
  16. success!!!! installed 1 tunze powerhead, quite powerful and 2 small via aquas i must admit the via aqua's flow tensd to dissipate very fast. I think i will require 1 MAYBE 2 more tunze, to make sure that the flow continues from middle to the last 3/4 of the tank. my these is from the right woodlands, forest and on the far left open field. so i want the flow to go around the open field area. but the tank is long, the tunze only flows to about 2 foot but, good side isw that the clown loaches are more active! they swin with the flow. the plecos are also mroe active, they seem to love flow as well.... one even puts himself right in fornto fthe via aqua, i mean right in front of it - LDA33. about 20 cms ish. fed this mroning, all of them came ou to eat at once! and the clown loaches, the ones that used to hide lots, are not more active. i dont nkow why but its good!

i am sure there will be people that willd o you a favour around yoru area. always good to have people checkin your stuff when you go away. or you can get or borronw auto feeder and just feed little for a month perhaps?

    Oscars

oscars get big. large, and sometimes agro. so that is too small.
  19. probably just bring the intake up higher. yeah good feedback guys
  20. oh ok cos silica sand tends to get blown around and then go into the filters, ever so slightly but i imagine if Titano magnetite gets in there, it will cause damage tot he impeller and magnet
  21. mero forward thinking, seachem sands are great, but fkor plantedt anks, eventually yes but... realistically, i dont see myself filling a massive tank with seachem substrate lol too expensive. iron sand may pose a probloem with filters if they get sucked up too. another issue i may have. mmm touch position. i see that some ashtrays in malls, have this black sand in them. wonder what that is
  22. I am thinking now maybe the tunze power head will be too powerful lol'
  23. yeah the parrot will be ok, its a tough one. the black should do ok ith some flow, not too much, ill try it and see how it reacts. main thing is to provide plenty of areas where they can rest. gonna try and update
  24. yeah, thats what i was thinking, the fish in the tank are designed for high flow anyways, which is good i guess. i will experiment and see what works. but one direction generally sounds like a logical solution as opposed to a washing machine type flow.
