mixed it up lol thought it was the cactus pleco you after!
-
the one at the staore is half the size when i got mine so small. call them, but i saw it and it was definitely a lot smaller, i got mine when it was about 10 to 12 cms, its about 20 to 23 cms now. they are active and very good as they dont hide all the time. some plecos NEVER come out! these guys are not shy once settled, but provide good hiding spots to make them feel comfy! and safe.

L25 SCARLET is rarer, come sup once in a while but not common and usually very expensive, 200 tol 300 plus! but currently, Hollywood fish farm in mt roskill has a nice cactus L24 pleco. i personally have one, awesome fish! meat eaters so easy in a meat eating comm tank but will love hikari algae wafers too! and sinking wafers for clown loaches i feed my tank. mine has grow rapidly, currenlty hff roskill has a small one, very nice saw it 2 or 3 days ago!!

some large species will never get that large if you put them in a small tank

i have just recently put the lights and heat for 24/7 i now have a self sustaining rotating amount, and i suspect, when the eggs reach critical mass, i will get a bloom once every couple of harvests so to speak. with 24/7 lights i find the babies become adults in 2 weeks or so! i feed twice a day, each time enough to be finished in 8 hours. i also leave a dish of bran laced with spirulina powder, as locusts accumulate astaxanthin in their flesh, limbs, exoskeleton and eyes, good for my red arowana. as for twitching, i find that maybe they cannot thermoregulate. maybe a part needs to be cooler? or maybe its the grass you are feeding, poison grass?

yeah, plenty thre, you also watch for ponds, fountains with fish just randomly. people keep arowanas in hotel lobby ponds, outdoor ponds etc. excited fo rya!

I think the female lays the eggs :slfg: pretty effective way to sex them i reckon lol haha, yeah just wondering if you wre selling, i love them too. -
haha, singapore is the size of greater auckland, a train will take you there very quickly! probably quicker than driving from albany to manukau:D lol but yeah fair enough, take as many photos as you can! of all fish not just aros, that is always cool to see what they sell. they sell some pretty neat plecos too! qian hu arowanas sell in local pet stores too, qian hu is a farm and a pet shop as well, but they also wholesale arowanas

nice, love them! i have a 35cm one, but that looks like its a bit bigger than mine, a while ago, when animates in mt eden was still jansens, they have one that was absolutely massive, i thin it was about 60 cms plus! huge! you selling this fish or keeping it? -
haha i did, good to get ideas from everywhere!
-
haha yeah, snake neck is abit of a wild card, not sure if i would risk it to be honest, i actually thik the arowanas might try and kill the snack neck by grabbing its neck!!! not really my priority i guess but would be wicked cool!!!
-
yeah, weather its possible.. only time will tell. see how i go. goals are worth having:D

I know right! love it!! the tank looks nic,e simplistic. m,an i wish we could get pignose turtles here!! apparently they are very good tankmates for large arowanas as they are fully aquatic and peacefull! snake necks apparently are also good in this regard - i seen snake neck with clown knives before and very docile. i reckon a small snake neck grown with arowanas can be good. but yeah, tooa mbitious perhaps? i love that tank, simple, neat and nice fish. THis is my idea of stocking - really, like i said, HOLY GRAIL of tanks Proposed Stock AROS: 2-3 silvers 2 green 2 black 1 rtg 1 Electric blue or blue base or gold base xb 1 vfsr (qian hu VIOLET FUSION SUPER RED) 1 vip (current one, brutus) Other misc monsters: 1 to 2 clown knife (albino if possible 2x bgk if still there after i come back 1 to 2 datnoids 1x GG 1 cigar shark Large Flagtail Misc Small and bottom: 8 spotted mettynis 3 to 4 Silver dollars 40 to 50 Clown loaches (current stock if still there) Large Plecos: Blue phantom Snowflake Albino Golden sun spot Cats cactus Sunshine pleco Gold Nugget Magnum Pleco

you can tell if clowns are happy,t hey come out to feed and feed alot. fat too.
-
lol kelly tarltons doesnt have the fish i lik to keep!! yeah, a huge tank like that is expensive, but out of plywood, it will be extremely economical.... i guess i will have to see what my situation is. stocking i am thinking of doing a private import of a bunch of arowanas from overseas, i would also try to get some albino clonw knives and albino tiger datnoid (borneo tiger) and random stuff like that. i guess this is my holy grail im looking at here. arowana comms are very common, there is 8 in there, for good luck no doubt lol in asia somewhere, but its a very nice tank!

i personally feel that in most cases, i keep fish in their natural parameters as much as possible, there are occasions where fish can be adaptable. synodontis for one, they can live in pretty much most conditions. just my opinion but it is not unheard of to see clown loaches in african cichlid tanks from young, i seen many videos on line and the loaches are huge, active and very nice looking. good luck i say:D
-
to be honest, this one is a long term project, i am thinking of moving overseas for a while, this is when i return after me and my partners OE. but as in the past, planning is key, planning is atached to day dreaming and fantasising and this is how it starts:D thing is, its not IF but WHEN i build this lol It is a hard one, arowana community tank is a tough challenge, i will have to consider it closer to the time. but good to know what to do if i do an aro comm, the stock of fish alone will be 10k plus. plus tank and stuff, i project 25k total on the project. weather i can spare that is one thing, If not i am considering another 1200LItre and just getting one other arowana, a electric blue or blue base crossback. but i would relaly like some sort of a arowana comm, as it is my dream set up
-
i guess if you have them from small, those who dont make it dont adapt and those who do are adaptable - like african cichlids living in soft water, some may actually be ok. weather they THRIVE or not is another issue i guess. my clowns are all in soft acific waters. as for food ;my current stable is sinking wafers by hikari - i feed occasional massivores and i used to feed sinking cichlid gold. But they will mow down the occasional prawn tha the aro doesnt eat.

cost effectiveness, glass its gonna cost around 10k plywood really is i think the way togo. dont need to build into a house, but plywood glass front with artificial rocks built on, WHEN i build this it will be all out, so the rock background, a tree inside it but plywood wont really be transportable. glass can be but extremely heavy acrylic is good as its light, but scratches easily. glass, it can be carried by 10 mighty movers! i seen those beasts lift stuff! to clean, yeah probably go into it, no other way, but you dont need to clean the sides - just the fron tglass, the way ill set it up is same as i do now, plenty of bottom dwellers so o need to gravel vac, fine substrate... just need to disturb sand occasionally.

man............... was hoping someone would just tell me:D :slfg:
-
mmmm interesting. that will be a very nice panoramic tank! how thick deo you think is required for that?
-
Ok, 'planning' a monstrous tank. 3000 litres to 3500 max. i want a width of 120cm front ot back. do you think i should go longer or higher? looking really more for the most cost effective in term sof glass thickness. Or would plywood be best to use in this case?
