    Tiger barbs!

As a rule as long as there are 6 or more barbs they tend to leave everything else alone so a couple of otto's should be fine.

    700L tank

I have a bit of very stubbon brown algee/marks on the inside of my 700L tank its not coming of with my magnetic scraper and its a real pain to get to by hand , i have bristlenose and a large flying fox in there and there not shifting it, any ideas ? Thanks
  12. really hard to say but its happened so quick almost as if somethings affected its brain , like a worm or something , i know not a lot of help but make sure there in quaentine to protect your other fish....another water change would also not hurt. Good luck
  13. is the larger molly a male and the other two female ? if so it could be trying to mate and the smaller maybe immature females are not ready. Also when you did the wter change did you uses anything to take the clorine out of the water ? Airation is the other thing that comes to mind but it really is hard to say from what you have said, Sounds like you have done about all you can unless someone else can add something, where in Wellington are you there might be a member close that could come around and give better advice once he's seen the fish.
  14. Hi Do they look like there breathing fast ?, what else are in the tank with them ? have you added anything recently ? and do you have airation going in there tank ?

    AR980

Hi I would just like to get a quick idea on what i'd need to do if i wanted to turn this AR980 210L freshwater tank into a salt water tank, thinking of just a few fish and corals nothing major but is it possable and what new equipment would i need ? I have 2 spare canister filters and the tank also has a built in filter. Sorry for the silly question but i know so little about marine tanks and was just dreaming. Thanks
  17. Sounds good Caryl, I can't wait to see it finished Awesome !
  18. Thank you Kevin , great to have that cleared up
  19. its Kevin Rowe his details are in the "Officers" page http://www.fnzas.org.nz/officers/ {edit=cees]changed details to link [/edit]
  20. I think we will have to agree to disagree on this Alan, i take your points and anyone is eleigable to reg breedings but unless the rules are followed cannot compete for the trophies, and as for all NZKA members being breeding coordinators, rule 11 says any breeding coordinators ARE NOT eleigable. I know the comp changed over the years and thats great but unless the published rules change how is anyone anywhere to know what they can and can not do, as you yourself said need 1 or 10 fish for 30 or 90 days ? This is the first year i have entered any breedings and for the first 9 months thought very little or nothing about any comp, but one night when i could not sleep i read the rules thought it sounds like funand after talking to other club members thought i'd give it a go, Now if those rules are meaningless then the whole comp is meaningless and defeats the reason it was started, ie keeping fish species in new zealand.
  21. I see your pratical point there Alan and i agree its very hard for some people living in more isolated areas to have them checked BUT again i ask where is it said the rules only apply to 99% of members. You say i was agreed NZKA could just take photo's etc, but i don't see that in any rule or ammendment ? You use the example of someone who cheated that you cought out and said they are no longer members of the FNZAS but it was too late to take the trophy off them, thats seems crazy too me how about the poor person who "did" follow the rules came 2nd and missed out, in your scenario what is to stop that happening again ? Sorry Alan but i firmly belive unless the rules are changed by the FNZAS nd public posted before to year comp starts , That the rules sould stand as advertised and if you can't comply for whatever reason then thats it . Rules are for 100% of people not those its conveniant for. Sorry
  22. its 2 1/2 foot tank, the holes seem too small only ever found 1 fry in the middle bit andI'm pretty sure that went under at the corner where the silicone stopped a perfect fit, no adult fish could fit there.
  23. I bought those ones from the local hutt pet shop, there a plastic sheet with lots and lots of little holes held in place by two "hing" type sliders , work "ok" but not as good as seperate tanks , thats a strain guppy tank , the blues on the left and reds on the right , middle bit is empty so the have to breach two barries without been noticed , ( never had them breech a single barrier yet )
  24. mine fitted in my honda accord no worries, depends on what car I guess
  25. I use these shelves from bunnings for a lot of my tanks in the garage, so i just snapped some pictures for you , they come in differant sizes and can be adjusted to fit the tanks , each shelf can hold 150kg no worries but if you add extra boards takes more easy
