  1. Cant be sure of that, However we do know that saltwater ICH for natural reef tanks is an issue. If NSW from NZ waters happens to contain them which it may not, then at least we know we have covered the bad ones we know about for Reef tanks. Other parasites may survive 3 or 4 weeks but may be NZ parasites may not harm Reef tank inhabitants anyway. It is purely theory, but I like it and know it definitely kills and removes some things as well as settling crap out also. It is definitely beneficial to common Reef Tank Marine ICH. (As we know the cycle of this parasite. (Even if it only kills the majority). If we just dumped it in and it had heaps of Theronts for example...our fish may get swarmed and find it difficult to get rid of. If we leave for a term and the New NSW contains only a few...the fish should be able to cope and keep up immunity.

    The reflections dont match
  3. Im off to buy a bunsen burner.....
  4. The only way to safely 100% sterilise NSW is to boil for 20 minutes. THAT will kill everything.
  5. Bloody hell this thread grew some balls whilst I was slogging my guts out in the city. Im still leaving it 3 weeks minumum. Mainly for Parasitic action. I dont really give a flying butthole about the bacteria in it, as the main display will auto balance that side of things. It also drops olut a lot of crap to the bottom.
  6. By the way, ICH removal is impossible to remove from systems using NSW. Unless you Chlorinate the supply first....I have thought about looking further into this, but adding Trichlor or similar scares me. Anybody know a good site?
  7. If a fresh batch has 100 theronts in it, after 3 weeks there will only be about 5 probably. (Something like that anyway).
  8. The bacteria that consumes the dying Plankton will be good bacteria. Im talking about possible bad bacterias that may be present. Parasite life cycles are usually over with within 3 weeks. (I DID NOT SAY IT WAS FOOL PROOF). It is simply better than putting it straight in if it DOES contain parasites or bad bacteria. After 3 weeks most will be gone. I only want the salt...I dont need the plankton or any other benefits.
  9. Any theronts floating around will have no fish hosts to attach to. Bacteria dies if there is nothing to feed on. I thought this would be obvious to you Layton. (Im not talking about complete removal, just the majority).

Ira, which model do you have....a couple of models have reversible motors...this will more than likely be the cause. Simple to fix and the difference is phenomenal. 500? 600? or 1250 Turbo?
  11. It will be fine! Are you using RO/DI for the fresh water or straight from the tap? The NSW should preferably be left to sit for 3 weeks or more before adding it to kill bacteria and parasites, (If any). I run mine through Carbon twice before hitting the tank also to remove organics. Even if you havent done this you will be ok this time more than likely....just something to think about! Good luck
  12. Had brother..Had! She all sweet where Im sitting now!
  13. Crack me up!! The wife has just put the brakes on...... damn...Oh well I got away with 9K!!!! (I got shitloads of livestock for my money though.....I dunno how you guys can spend 20K and have an empty tank, must be doing something wrong, or have 4000 litre systems or something....)

Its a very weird reflection, cant quite work that one out.
  15. 3 weeks with carbon and shes sweet.....
  16. Yes, but it wont get rid of TDS's other than sodium. Bacteria yes. But that will die in a matter of weeks anyway. The only way to do it well is to clean it first by skimming it and run it through carbon. Still wont remove all though.
  17. I never said NSW was always good! I use it and hope like hell it is all good. I leave mine to die for minimum 3 weeks. I run my NSW through carbon twice before it hits the tank. But some sort of pathogen that cant be measured or removed, we have no control. I cannot afford, (Or want to afford), using ASW in a 1400 litre aquarium. The above methods are the best I can do!
  18. Yeah, just waiting now for a bit of maturity!
  19. Cheers...the other half are in the other half of the tank! (9 Chromis)
  20. Are you dosing Mg and Cal, KH now Fay?
  21. They rackon theyre bad, but not sure why. I have a few...just leave them unless they can be got real easy.
