    Calcium Levels

Thats interesting. My KH is adjusted through baking soda only. I keep mine at 12-14KH and my calcium is 450 at the moment. I keep my KH high so as to keep ph very stable. It never changes from 8.2. I would imagine Kalkwasser to

  9. Hi people, I'm after some info here. I have a 66 Gallon set up still going through the cycling process. I am not totally worried yet, but more curious. Has anyone experienced a bacterial bloom while setting up a system and noticed that it is almost always gone during the evening through to morning hours. My system gets cloudy during the day only! Crystal clear at 6.30Am then gets cloudy again during the day until about 9 PM! Does anyone have an answer for this phenomena? I know the system is stabilising as the bacteria is getting used to it, and I know this will settle down, but am just curious! Regards
  10. Geez Warren!...And I thought my 1200 watts with 4 x 15 inch subs was bad..... luckily I'm getting old and I have lots of kids! Not quite as thrashed as it used to be!
  11. Hey does anybody know the effects of loud music on tank inhabitants. I have rather a big stereo system and although the tank is in the next room , she gets pretty loud! Anybody help?

    Water mover ?

Your tank looks bloody nice Fay.
  15. I would be more inclined to try and run across the joists if you can. This will spread the weight out more evenly. You are somewhere around .6 to .7 of a tonne with that tank. If you run along the joists, be wary of the age of the house. Do you know the age. I am a builder also, so can prolly help here a bit. The joists sit on the bearers. Do you know the distance between the bearers?
  16. Hey Fay, Ive been having difficulties with the site and havent been on for awhile. Aplologies for the "Wig" Thing. I actually think your invert is absolutely awsome! I'm gonna feed them what you feed them too! Cheers Craig
  17. Nah, ammolok is something that chemically stops ammonia from being toxic. (Or somethig to that effect). "Cycle" is basically a bottle of bacteria that can and will colonise the system quicker than receiving it from the air. In an established system I would think it would be safer to add a bit at a time. Reef reckons there may be a ammonia spike with it, but I never noticed it. I am looking into what the stuff is made of.
  18. I'm also going to add a small amount to all my water changes just to make me feel better! Oh for the reef
  19. Bacteria will colonise by itself, but "Cycle" does have it's place. During my cycle I had heaps of "off" rock and my ammonia went on & on & on. The nitrites just wouldnt kick in. So I gave it a boost with "Cycle" and within 2 days the nitrite was reading half way, and the ammonia was half gone. Also had a rotting crab in there and the bacteria kept up with the ammonia not allowing it to increase. A day later and the AM was gone and the Nites off the chart. Proof enough for me!
  20. Bloddy hell...!!! who dropped that wig in there!!
  21. Another option if you have a sump is to invest in another small pump in the sump and run a hose up to your display, (just like the main pump), and run a hockey stick over the top and fire it down into one of the corners. This creates awesome current and clears corners and their adjacent sides.
  22. Hey Kermit, Iv'e got the same size tank as you. I would advise to go and get a small/medium bottle of "CYCLE" and put a maximum allowable amount in your tank. The stuff works well. You cant overdose either. I put the second smallest bottle in mine and the bacteria colonies went off with a bang. Good luck
  23. Cheers, I have a 250w with double blue actinics now, but know of someone with anemones that are just thriving under t5s and I am curious whether they like this more thn MH. I have heard of anemone withering and am wondering if lighting could be it. Oh for the reef!
  24. Hi people, I am running a 300l cube tank to start and have read up on lighting to a certain degree. Does any know or have tried both the t5 and/or the hallides independently or has tried them together, i.e 14k MH with blue standard actinic along with white t5? Sounds like a good combo to me. Any suggestions on this? Cheers. Craig Oh for the reef!
