    Sorry Chim...look above!! 8)
  6. There is nothing wrong with having the lids on as long as your prepared to clean the glass all the time to remove the salt creep off the lids. Otherwise it will reduce the amount of light penetrating into the tank. Plus it can make it awkward to get in and move things around. Keep a close eye on the temperature. What type of lights do you have?

Fish DO become immune to parasites. If you remove WS from your system somehow, they're immunity will fade and they will get nailed again if introduced back into the system after about 6 months. (Takes about 6 months to lose immunity if placed in a sterile tank).

Hey Rossco, If no other fish has whitespot and the PBT has no more than a general smattering.....I would stop the "medication". Not needed. "Stop parasite" doesnt quite do it generally for PBT's. Other fish, yes. A couple of us have proved this.

Its logical... Maybe sooner.....not too sure.... Once a tank has matures and evrything has settled in, along with parastic grow out and maturity..........plus immunity. Just a confident feeling I have. Everything settles down over time and reef aquariums are bloody slow to prove themselves as you know!

If you can get to 24-25 degrees it will help drastically. Difficult with this heat i know. Im running huge fans over my sump 12 hours a day....... cant get below 26. Still better than 28 though!!

I have a PBT....very healthy... It has whitespot mildly.......NORMAL! Its actually quite good, It keeps the rest of the fish immune. Over a long period I expect the fish to shake it...probably a year or two.

I must admit he had no noticeable white spot to me, but that is nowhere near as important as his skinniness. PBT are scaleless fish, so whitespot is normal in a captive environment. The whitespot grab on to scaless fish easily. If a PBT stops feeding properly, its all over. As long as he eats WELL while you there Fay, it should be fine. The PBT will be sweet with everything else in tank also Fay. Tangs are awesome...you'll get hooked!

Fay, If its the one in Mt Roskill hes doing well regarding the whitespot be he is very skinny. I would advise quarantine first to feed him up if possible. They ARE difficult fish to keep, but once you got a goody, they're all cool. Make sure you watch him eat at HW first before you bag him up. They are gutsy eaters when healthy. The guy there said he was eating. You might want to see if you can get a reduction beacause of his skinniness. If it gets whitespot, its normal. try to keep temp at a stable 25 degrees to slow down the whitespot cycle. this will help it to battle it. Good luck!
  17. If you put the right amounts in, the ionic balance is fine. Ive been doing it for over a year.
  18. Ask "Drifty" about Reef builder. His coralline is off the charts! Ive seen it. I can supply you with PURE chemicals individually if needed. Cheers
  19. Strontium also makes coralline grow rapidly as long as phosphates are low like WASP has already said. If you run just one product..."Seacham reef builder" you will get good coralline. It contains the perfect amount of the coralline growing bits. But its not cheap!! magnesium, strontium and calcium etc.

    Filtration

This is true as long as the debris is removed often, otherwise it just releases DOCS back into the tank......pointless. (Every day really).

Bio ball towers and Wet/dry filters or filter wool systems are fine for fish only systems with minimum rock. They convert the Nitrite and ammonia ok, but just dont deal with converting Nitrate to gas very easily. The anearobic bacteria in large amounts of rock are what is needed for reef systems otherwise nitrate will be too high. You can safely run a reef tank with soft corals at about 20-30 nitrate without too much of an issue as long as you control phosphates using vodka or phosphate remover...... Blah, blah, blah........
