    Overflow!

Woke up this morning to find one of my Percs swimming happily in the Overflow compartment! I had accidentally left a smallish gap at the end of the COMB. Luckily my intake is low down and to the bottom, he was cruising at the top! As soon as I put my net in there he swam up and shot back thru the gap!!! Whew.... (Wont do that again)!
  5. Not trying to piss anyone off here! Just thought the topic in WWM was interesting, but the other fish you mentioned are agreeably the same. Experienced reefers should be the only ones trying these types of fish IMO. Water quality and quite often enough room.
  6. I would advise ALL reefers to read up about PBT's in the WET WEB MEDIA site hosted by Bob Fenner. Powder Blue tangs are not recommended because of there difficulty. If you do have one, (Like myself), you are taking the risk of killing it. They are not meant to be in captivity. Only the odd one will adapt. I might be a lucky one, Im still not sure. Ive already lost one prior to this one. Its still not ideal for the poor fish though. However the importers still bring them here, so if we dont take them, they will only die in the importers tanks i guess, and that happens regularly as far as I'm aware. Just food for thought!
  7. They are a toughy to keep, dont beat yourself up about it. Mine's still got WS......keeping an eye open.....
  8. Nah, he wasnt asian.....must be another reefer.
  9. So you must be the fella I met there that day then? (With the two buckets).
  10. Actaually, my father is BOB. Truely!!
  11. Ben, I have 1800 kilos directly over the timber floor of a 1947 house. No problems as long as the centre of the tank is in the centre, or across a bearer. If you need a hand let me know. Craig (Im a builder also).

    valve

If your sump is big enough, it wont need a valve. They only cause issues later on anyway. It can only siphon down to the "pump in" pipe and then stop.
  13. part of a new tank i think.....Not much you can do until it settles down.

Hey, The Rubber mans back!! Hey Ghost...try vodka first...between the yellow eye kole and the V, the crap should dissolve in a week or two. You could also pour boiling water over that sectioon of rock and miss everything else. dont kill the coral!!

Look at the size of it compared to the egg crate....Briopsis I reckon. Too small for Caulerpa.
  17. it would be fine for microbial life. preferably at low tide level where it stays wet.

  20. Just to the side of MH at maximum or somewhere shaded. They can be in bright light but will grow different to in a shaded spot or "half light" spot. Each species should be tested if doesnt look good. try half light and move around until they look the best. generally high up under MH doesnt work. Medium current is ideal, even real slow is fine. Hard current is ok too but can make them close up or blow off the rocks.
  21. no, wont be adding silicates.....
  22. Dont worry about scoria, Just go to a local rocky beach and get standard NZ rocks already underwater. Preferably as porous as possible. Will already be cured and have NZ life on it to start with.
