you could with no fish in there but certainly not with fish in there. your only prob is you'll have algae filaments in the water with the fish so i'd lightly dose their water too. i've had this stuff take over my tank before, awful stuff. algaefix seems to be the best thing out there for it. it made my fish act quite defensive and it says on the back it's known to the state of california to cause cancer.

Usually filters are pretty good but they can get noisy when they clog up then if it's internal (inside the tank) it can mean you don't clean it as often as it's hard to do. the same can happen with cannisters tho rather than get noisy they usually just have the output reduce. i like hang on the back filters because if they get clogged up they're easy to clean so you do it more often and if the water level is high enough they're pretty much silent

Goodluck guys i'm keen to see the results. I use Hauraki peat have used the water and put it in straight as well as boiled it all good no problems yea don't worry about them seeing each other it can be totally pitch black.. they're from blackwater anyway and are obviously very colourful so they've got no worries

what's your kH? (carbonate hardness) if it's 6 then you have enough to buffer you and avoid the pH crashing. if you use a bubbler in the tank as well you should be fine as this will oxygenate the tank at the same time
