  1. Thanks love I wish I still had that too! Need to get some more glosso.. oh and a high paying job to support the habit haha. I do have a small tank with lots of java moss in it tho so that's tiding me over for now
  2. Thanks love although I accidentally posted the wrong pic with all the gear still in the tank so I've edited to the right one.. also I thinned it out a bit. Tank is 300L (122cmx50cmx50cm) currently sitting on the front deck at home (don't worry it's empty ) Here's a close-up of some pearling macandra from inside the tank...
  3. gorgeous clean fish i'd love to grow some of those out!!
  4. Interesting that it seems to be mainly the little things that make all the difference. Is there also an Animates in Rotorua?
  5. WOW absolutely gorgeous.. beautiful round discus and pretty smooth foreheads and forehead -> dorsal fin transition. though i'm not a fan of albino fish in general.
  6. it's an issue of time, dedication, and conditioning them and the tanks properly more than it is too difficult to breed them (as Bryan's article [still find it inspiring how many he was able to breed) and TM have demonstrated)

mmmm gorgeous!! love the original bettas i must say... the strong reds and blues.. very nice
  8. Ok so what's that shop that really stands out and you love going there everytime cuz there's always something new and cool to look at and buy? For me it would be the Goldfish Bowl in Hamilton.. by and large over the years great service, helps you find stuff you want, fresh plants, few oddball fish, cheap but good products (eg water ager literally 5x cheaper than the big chain store), even bought discus juveniles off me. and because of this the owner has got most of my custom. Anyway, how about you?
  9. In the past I've worked in a call centre talking to all types of customers and some are unbelievably rude, arrogant, impatient, and unrealistic with their expectations. I think it is a different story once they've established themselves like that. But until you know, you gotta treat the customer with respect and be friendly! And yes it's totally a 2-way street, well said. If we always endeavour to meet customers expectations then we will all get what we want a lot more then everyone is happy. Remember, after a bad experience customers tell a heap more people than a positive experience.. look at this thread for proof (ps i'll start an appreciation thread for good LFSs)
  10. enjoy the lasers before they get banned... after those stupid turkies shone them into pilots' eyes.....smart move that was!
  11. Wow that's really interesting and great to hear! more inspiring when you hear from others who have actually done it. btw those old school measurements (roughly) are: 18"x9"x9" = 45cm x 23cm x 23cm 14"x7"x7" = 35cm x 18cm x 18cm 12"x6"x6" = 30cm x 15cm x 15cm
  12. haha funny. i think it's good to keep them amused even if it's just the odd tank shift around once in a while. spidersweb i know what you mean about the finger cuz that huge GG at HollywoodFishFarm in Mt Roskill always opened it's gob right up and tried to swallow my finger hole when I put it up to the tank.. was quite a.. hideous type sight haha
  13. yea crazy price considering i've seen them in shops for $8ea. don't jump into the big tank idea.. the guy that bred them by the hundred with the moon cycles used to breed them in TWO LITRE tanks!! the mod Pegusus knows more about this... if you're out there Peg can you shed more light on this? smaller is more managable and easier for fry to find food. still, lucky they bred NZDM
  14. yeah what majik and supasi said i'd recommend black sponge filters (grey column), color bits, bloodworm and whiteworm, and homemade oxheart mix (google it or go to simplydiscus.com) going barebottom will save you heaps of headaches as it is much easier to keep your water cleaner and free of any nasties

    worms????

exactly.. I believe krantan1 is doing the smart thing and adding pH down to the NEW water.. so it's more inline with the old water!! Good idea to bring it up gradually. I used to add strong acid to my discus water changing barrel until I slowly acclimitised them to my tap water pH of 8
  16. Please check subject of thread all you cat'os and dog'os! Another thing not mentioned explicitly is that the LFS will, just like us, have a fairly high number of deaths in their tanks from the constant stress state of being introduced to a new tank then having a bunch of people come and look at them. Probably why they look so much better (usually) when you've had them at home for a while.
  17. i couldn't even breed glowlight tetras the other day lol but i had some water issues the fish weren't happy. bummer to hear you had no luck. maybe the moon is not right right now
  18. gorgeous! love the round fat ones i see you have some. never had any prob with mine except the usual odd death from stress being moved or one 20cm one i got from LFS.. the owner guaranteed me for 24hrs (as i noticed some others had ich, this one didn't though) died after 48hrs
  19. hahah my old work had a shower there...was good after biking to work (zero fuel but every metre i dreamt of my libero and the sound system) could shower before starting the day... and kitchen with free milk and coffee etc.. hrmm and oven... hrmmmmmm... never be late as when the work nerds come in (voluntarily) at 7am they'd wake me up so i could doze for a few hours then get up
  20. GREAT TANK! really impressive i reckon the val really makes it ay.. haven't seen it around for ages thought it was banned. I dunno if this is true.... I know what you mean about it looking awesome but if you sold filter, heater, tank, fish seperately i think you'd get more overall.. ppl usually want a cheap package.
  21. sorry petrol company infiltrated my post and posted my msg twice for some reason
