  1. same at my place, under pine plantation, pumicey soil for easy burrowing with a good layer of damp litter and millions of cochroachs. There are plenty of them,/not that you see them but the burrows are easy to find, don`t make a habit of looking for them!!
  2. the thorny devil from outback aussie feeds exclusivly on ants but the ants we have here are full of formic acid and not good for or eaten by our lizards.
  3. good one Zev,take your pointy stick when you do!
  4. finchs would probably fly longer distances in a day in the wild to find food etc than parrots which spend alot of time clambering around in their favourite tree? The main reason wild birds infact fly is to get from water/food sources. If the food is laid on they can just chill out.
  5. I believe deco cty pets lady has young cockateils in the nest.
  6. yeah, they would go well in a reptile photo of the month?????
  7. haven`t you heard of pm`s?i am sure she would rather negotiate privately than give sucess fees to That other place?
  8. try copepod? I used to get these in a pond by the million and they were a good food item.when the fish ate them their droppings were bright red.needed a really fine net for them.
  9. 150 watts is getting up there for your tank size,as long as you have a mesh lid and /or good ventilation?
  10. the peppereds will eat then too?setup a special tank for them, let them spawn then take the adults and all other fish out.
  11. I don`t see why the vet should wait and see if the pin worm eggs are increasing since last time? Why you not just treat for an infection and eliminate the worms? They must be coming from the beardy?
  12. astro tuff would also be better for holding pinworm eggs? Have 2 or 3 that fit your tank and soak them in virkon or some other sanitising agent.Hang out to dry and air for as long as possible between using each one.
  13. as long as you are not planning to move to Christchurch any time soon?
  14. been watching too many beardies?
  15. should look like this around the beak area?
  16. its both, yanks call them turtles and they can swim.but they don`t have webbed feet and go on land rather than water burrowing into leaf litter etc to find humidity,There is a desert dwelling member of the same family.
  17. cover the egg medium with gladwrap to keep moist, watchout fro moisture droplets/condensaton forming as the young will drown on hatching as mentioned.i used to prick tiny holes with a sharp toothpick etc to combat this. When they start to hatch I would lift the gladwrap ever so slightly to let them out and still keep it humid underneath. They hatch over quite a few days if you let them. The adults and babies need moisture .any lapses....huge losses, especially the babies.
  18. looks a bit suspect around the beak area too?may need a trim.See if you can discreetly find out its origin p44 and drop me a pm.Hope its not one of mine but you never can tell?
  19. I saw that too andthe clawed toad one, sent in one of mine, she said she would hold onto it till they had a reptile month????Still waiting?
  20. anything that moves is what they go for,if it can fit into your mouth all the better?
  21. ditch the soil...too many bugs, get some vermiculite or propagating sand that you can sterilise beforehand.you should have a better hatching system than that as when they hatch they are going to be hard to contain?checkout google or old postings on here.As for the chirping...get used to it!!
  22. would go well in the reptile month.......if we ever get one??
  23. boxies can swim and enjoy it.Mediteranean tortoises can`t and sink like a rock. Boxies for my moneysworth are an aquatic tortoise.Americans call anything in a shell a turtle which makes it harder. What i have seen of boxies they are a damp loving forest dweller with the ability to swim if needed. They are more canivorous than herbivorous as well and eat fruit and veges(this probably makes them omnivorous?)There is a desert dwelling species that can handle dry conditions.
  24. you can get boxturtles here.Three toed boxturtles are the main species around.A few florida bowes and the odd eastern box,the price is alos high because of the lack of availability.
  25. no russians here that i know of?herman`s or spurthighs, not "an over the counter item" by any means? a couple sold on here the other day for More than 3k each.
