I think the powder is solely the indicator, so all that happens if you over do it is a darker colour. Will still change at the correct point.

If it was me I'd be making sure I knew the cause of the crash before i even thought of restocking.

and all those chemicals he doses daily Reefs correct. There is too much poor advise from people who know little. That is why you see numerous marine tanks started and shut down a few months later and sold on trade me etc, full of green algae and sad livestock. Poor advise from know it alls and nasty equipment not doing the job it should don't get me started on the people that quit, or continually change things because they don't have a nice tank after 3 weeks :evil:

Its not negative advise, its truthful advise. If you didn't want the truth dont ask. Advise based on experience using that actual skimmer. They are a poor design, need heaps of pump (and hence power), and skim poorly.

They are not a good skimmer, have owned one a long time back, you need a grunty pump, a laguna 6 or similar, and still will not skim well. Most are being used as door stops - sorry.

If it's just a sump, no lights are fine. If you are trying to get a refugium going, then you'll need lights if you want algaes to grow.

I had a queen 2000 as well. Needs a big pump to drive it, and even then a very poor performer. It's better than nothing, so use it until you can get a better one. There are alot of cheap (ish) skimmers available nowadays, that are alot better than a queen. Also check for second hand ones that come up occasionally.

Eat the tissue off your corals, and get big and destructive.

Not so much the colour of these, but there shape and movement. Love the look of them personally. Everything doesn't have to be neon to be nice.
