  1. said through the rose coloured glasses of a fish importer!!! It is an outstanding tank, one of the best, but he didn't need to bullsh-t his colours, simple!
  2. Lovely tank, stunning corals, clearly over saturated colours, look at the fish - ridiculous and IMO not needed. give me another year......................
  3. Pm Oceandose Conch.
  4. Couple of things I'd like to add.... - I dose phyto from Ocean dose. I do not believe my sps eat it. I do believe though, that the whole tank benefits, clams glow, sponges grow, pods and mysid populations increase and breed faster and sps eat the result of that!! - I believe reef is correct in that everything should be in balance and I only dose for 1 week out of 4 in MY TANK. In other systems with different stocking I'd be happy to dose the recomended amounts daily. - Oceandose didn't just stumble on a green bucket of water and decide to sell it. He is a very clever cookie, knows exactly what he is doing and is offering a very very good product to reefers at a very resonable price. This is something we should be applauding him for, not bagging him. Finally someone is offering a quality live plankton (yep, he's working on zooplankton) and we should be jumping for joy. This is his system for those that want to culture there own, and ther are some very good reefers using this system. Pretty bloody impressive, and I'm just happy he's doing it.

big! 2m x 1m x .75m about 1300l. total system volume over 2000 litres. and looks much better in real life!!
  8. Hardly a flame out, 2 sides to every story. People are allowed to disagree, even with the demi god Reef! I dose live phyto, people can come and look at my tank and make up there own minds. Tube worms, clams, softies, gorgonians, and even the sps look better after a good dose. There has been no increase in nutrients, in fact nutrients are very low, and phyto helps this. Would not continually dose it, but do dose monthly for about a week.

For those of you who dont frequent the other site.... Skippy came over on Sunday, and he took this shot, which although a bit blurry, is the best FTS I've seen of my tank, showing the colours well...... Some interesting (to me anyway ) changes in my tank lately. I believe the rocks have finally stopped leaching, and its finally starting to mature. I believe nutrients have dropped to very low, as my halimedia has stopped growing, the caulpera in the ref died 2 days ago (ran out of gas) and all cyno has completely gone. Coraline really kicked into gear, and colours in acros improved..... BUT, time to be very careful. You can see the effects on the corals, some like acros like it, others like zenia dont. I will need to ensure plenty of food is fed, for both the corals and fish. An interesting time. _________________ Nothing beats a fine SPS tank.
  10. He mentioned one in his first post, and i think has since edited it and removed it 8)
  11. I think you ChCh lads have far too much time on your hands.......
  12. No, its the one you said was a blue tipped brown stag, and i said no, its a blue stag, wait and see
  13. Still with 1 T8??, if so, good luck with the trumpet and acan, even up high they'll struggle.
  14. thanks all, tank is really looking fine, CE, thats half of it, cut your frag in 2 and the others bigger - growing really well, love the shape and movement of them.
  15. I've told you again and again, $75 and not a cent less.
  16. More SA comments eh? I'm well aware on the title of this thread, thanks anyway. so whats works on other tanks have nothing to do with discussing various light options? When i researched for my upgrade, what others were doing both here in NZ, and overseas played a big part in my decisions. Apologies FMXmatt, seems others know alot better than me, so I'll keep out of the discussion.
  17. If you read my posts, you'll find I run both. And know doubt there are some nice tanks with t5 only, however, go to reef central tanks of the month, and go through the last couple of years. Then come back and tell me how many are running t5s only. I think we had established there are other lighting methods, so here's a "raising eyebrows" smillie for you  also you'll note in one of my post this Can't see any fault with this comment. I won't post new photos yet as Wasp visited on the weekend and he plans to write a post with a few pics.
  18. I don't need to justify anything, my tank does all the "justifying" I need. What is such "a good point" about only keeping acros high when using T5s, and Camnbron, suggest you look about a bit more. There are loads of tanks with acros on the floor, loads. You know, people ask questions, you reply, there is a healthy debate going on, then you get smart arse people making comments that they know little about.
  19. sand??, thats the stuff on beaches right. Sure, you can keep acros at the top, but if your tank is for sps, then thats sure limiting. T5s are ok on small tanks, but IMO are not a good option for large deep and particularly sps tanks. Plus I dont like the look - you are right TM, it's personal preference I guess, as long as newbies know what they are getting when talked into or out of various light systems.
  20. Acros, in any tank deeper than 600mm.
  21. Can't understand this fixation some have with t5s. Why run a "bunch" of flourescents, when you can have strong crisp light, with glitter lines etc with a couple of halides. Just to be different??, who knows. I have 8 t5s on my tank. They might as well not be there when the halides come on frankly. They are good as a light source before and after the halides come on and off, sort of like a morning/evening light, Watch the cost of replacing these t5s every 9months as well. Nice tank and stand BTW.
  22. Don't think they are reef safe, and doubt your trigger is either..... You'll need to be careful.
  23. what sort of snails, must be turbos are they as astreas are out all day. Turbos come out at night, and tend to just arrive with liverock and corals, and normally aren't bought and sold.
