  1. why is it that the same stuff not happen in the fresh water tanks?
  2. wasp please tell me actually whats happening in your tank and how? I don't believe its agrred and known what is actually happening in a zeo tank, and what each component of the system is and how it works.... or what and how over/under dosing can/will effect the tank.....

    Reefs Reef Tank

these tanks could easilly be put together for around $1000 i believe

its an awesome shop best i have ever seen anywhere! these guys are in it for the long haul.....
  5. power will get cheaper once we build our nuclear stations.... rnb puts flame jacket on and goes hides in bunker
  6. i agree wasp/reef but IMHO good practice / experience and kowledge would run screaming from a system where the marketer does not tell you why or how it works... now that is a personal opinion only! how could you have konwledge in this case? you are allowed to have different ones!
  7. I think the skimmate / carbon must be choked with iron Reef - the carbon sounds a theorectically sink for the iron/phospate molecles? who sells zeolith apart from the stanard zeo channel... tunze???? what ones have you used?
  8. done deal..... already 8) i have never had an ehiem fail, and they use very little power!
  9. RnB finishes pop corn and leaves theather.. I hate sad endings.... goes over to watch the RC channel, which also seems intent on self destruction..... Layton - agree with you iron is the key element in action here Wasp - agree with you too, just piling in iron may not get the zeo result...... it may be possible to use non zeolith iron source, but i really think the zeo surface is providing a home for the ammonium eating bacteria (they need high iron concentrations to do there thing.. nothing better then the surface of an iron leaching substance) so that side of the zeo process will not work.. and you will not see a big reduction in nitrates..... only phospahte.... now if only we knew what the other components of the zeo system where for... I think there may be other competing products being used real soon!
  10. how do you find it? I really need one myself but just want to know how bad the RoDI is, think membrane may be cooked seems to be too little back pressure.... can you bring it in next week? late in week as in aussie till wed, i cannot give you frag as it is only a frag now, was from wasp, he may have more, its going ok for a guy with high nutrients.... everything seems to love the 400W lights over the 250's
  11. u / we could try it with a smaller tank, say 80-100L and a brown acro.... just the one acro and then try it...... be a good experiement.... I have spare tanks/skimmers etc no brown acors, only highly coloured orange frag from wasp..... which proves that acros can grow in nutrient rich tanks as mine a shocker at the moment RO/DI issues, better since last 40% NSW change tho..... who purchased the Ro/DI meter thro marine depot? Peter

its even more impressive in real life.... its technicolor no zeo and no skimmer in site! no MM either.....

    Reefs Reef Tank

the best soft tanks i have seen did not have skimmers, just LR.... http://www.coralplantations.com/Picture%201012.avi this thing is as colourfull as a zeo tank saw it when last in aussie I am not sure that the same husbandry works for other or hybrid tanks (I have also read a lot about getting rid of your mushies if you want to keep acros etc) , otherwise chemical warefare breaks out....

lots of mushrooms in the tank?
  15. good question re carbon and iron........ post on RC reef and lets hear the chem heads opinion..... i read a lot about bombers setup and thats why i have got my streams.... also have a place for my sand to go he has some cool giant snails... where do i get some from? RnB
  16. thats all do able, but is there not still a little bit of a debate going around about what long term elevated iron (if indeed its really THAT elevated) will do to your tank........ I can see why bomber goes BB and heavy skimming, massive turnover.... if you could wet skim organics out early then you can achieve the low nitrate levels another way, i wonder how he keeps phosphate low? I guess you could also just use lots of phosphate killer or big water changes.... this debate about zeo has really helped my understanding of water quality etc and refreshed my uni chemistry.... good point wasp about the bacterial system side of it but layton has been going on about metal eating bac's for a while now,
  17. why not just add the zeo rocks and watch the iron concentration rise as in the test on the RC? i imagine the rate of release and specificic ion is REAL important....

    Reefs Reef Tank

does he skim? does he add kalc? calcium reacter? NSW or ASW? Phosphate removers? Drifty, whats the MM doing that would not happen if it was not there? interesting to get your opinion on this as you have almost first hand experience no one has told me what it releases and at what rate, except vague references to minerals...... just trying to qualify what "he does nothing but" really means...
  19. It does sound like the process that Alois posted is IMHO the same process that zeo uses are using. Marketing/languge aside, they do sound very simmilar.... IMHO its not just iron, but the iron plays a MAJOR role in both the early breakdown of ammoinia and also the binding of phosphates.... Reef - what product is the one you posted on RC ? layton - i think i read that the iron is critical to bacteria that breakdown ammoinia, its removal early on means that nitrate cannot form in normal quantities...
  20. that power meter pay for itself in approx 77 days then
  21. cool - game on again RnB goes to get popcorn
  22. you have PM - i give you the money for it if he not appear..... ehiems last for YEARS and are just great utility pumps.... Peter
  23. he added the NEW Miracle growth supplement - Growbig Plus.. only $49.99 from your LFS and his corals never looked better

    Reefs Reef Tank

Pies.. why would you "consider" something you think is BS... perhaps it does nothing and the tanks are great for a multitude of other reasons...... mud is mud.. or mainly inert silica in this case
