When the big one finally hits WGTN..... its game over.....
  5. of course the cost per L for a nano could be a lot lower, but then you can also crash it SO much easier.... I am an idiot thats why I have a 500L tank bit like a supertanker, slow to turn bad... but also hard to get out of poo once bad I guess..... my advice to anyone is to buy a complete setup from someone selling one... yes it looks more $... but its NOT... lots of things are expensive... costs a lot just to keep a boat at westhaven.. let alone the maint costs ........ Marine is expensive.. but its WAY cheaper then lots of sports out there....
  6. if you do lots yourself, import own kit, buy second hand etc.... I reckon it would cost you around $12-$15 per litre for a good setup..... 8)

    Live Rock

What we did find was rock which had been recently dredged out of the ocean as a harbor and channel widening project in the Islands. This rock was also ancient reef and when cut in half one can see the skeletons of corals, gorgonians, animals and other reef organisms. It is a very porous rock, megascopicaly, and this rock proved to be the prime candidate for use. there must be somewhere in NZ where a quay has this type of rock structure, I have asked a geoligist mate, so will post the answer if any.....

Where does dead rock suitable to marine use come from? Is it imported, or dug up somewhere.... been reading about crushed oyster shells and cement.....

    Live Rock

I have read about the guys producing live rock by placing dead rock into sea and waiting.... I am after the rock to form the base of the tank, not the outside visable stuff. could you cycle rock that had been left in the gulf for about 3 months if you slowly brough the temp up to a reef type environment???? where could i get the dead rock from for a resonable price... i would need quite a bit.....

he could tell us whats in it on the quiet..... not how to make it, that can be trickier, but a quick scan can often tell you the nature of the beast! where can you buy this stuff in NZ?
