  1. That would give you the winner, but not necessarily the science of why one was better then the other...... science is about testing a hypothesis not comparison and ranking, we should in theory know the winner and why before we run the experiement!
  2. I agree that I also think I have a good view on it, but I have no DATA to back it up...... Even those tests are laughable from a scientic perspective.... chemical engineering labs run fractionaters for lab experiments, the science is very well understood... The issue is that none of the vendors provide any usefull DATA about there skimmers apart from recommended flow and tank size, and no inklings on there methodology to obtain these numbers....
  3. looks a lot like an importers thread defending short Deltec skimmers, and knocking others, from this angle.... If deltec are better can you please explain.... How much better they are? Why they are better? What the extra % gain costs per % point, over the next best? What tests proved this? There are thousands of great tanks out there running all types of skimmers..
  4. I have seen steves tank, and it looked plenty skimmed to me!
  5. A Iwaki 40 and a 1060 for redundancy....
  6. I'll show you mine.... if you tell me whats in "Reef Solutions" apart from the "minerals and trace elements" phrase....
  7. 2nd skimmer = a very tall, piece of PVC pipe with some flow from your tank (small flow rate) big airstones...... 8)
  8. pies the article says that its been proven some things take up 2 mins to attach to a bubble.... this is pure chemical engineering stuff.. proven science you could pas the water through 100 times a day... but if its not going to skim everything out if the average contact time is less then 2 min....... Peter
  9. this is a great read http://www.hawkfish.org/snailman/skimmer101.htm Pies, my opinion is less flow and aim for a wetter skimmate then most people believe is right... like taking a piss... don't wait till its dark, by then you will be dehydrated!

    annoying fish

using a fishtrap.... basically a perspex box with a drop sliding door... put food in the back and wiat till they go in, then let the trap drop..... works a dream! Jetski sold me mine, i though i would have to rip tank apart to catch my yellow tang, took all of 20 mins just waiting for it to go for the nori bait! easy peasy
  11. Tank is looking WAY better then just after they opened..... Reef is right about the food, its very good and very child friendly, My son Alex loves the train/pony rides ! If you are picking someone up from the airport I would recommend killing a few hours here...... I imagine as there butterfly population grows it will mature nicely.
