  1. just curious? how do we know that they lie? i was serious when i said that, they communiticate with each other with high pitched frequency waves that travel through the water. Shae

  4. Thats very inccorrect, The swordtail is not a hybrid (manbred), swordtails and platy were discovered in two tottaly different area's of the world, and both without each species in co-existence, the colour just being the wild green, and not only that platy were found in tottally different areas than each other aswell, and when the two were bred together, we got colours. The reason we have coloured platy and coloured swordtails is mainly due to cross-breeding WAY back. BTW generally if you have male swordtails and female swordtails ina tank with platy, the male will consintrate on the female swordtails. Its only when he has no other ulternative that he will generaly turn to the female platy. There is quiet a difference if you look hard enough. And as we know, fish do talk! Shae

  9. The conatiner there in in the fishroom is far to small for the parents aswell, they would scrap and be unnessacarily stressed, aswell as most likley disregarding the eggs now that they have been away so long. Trust me dude, i know what im doing, the bubble is beside the eggs giving sufficient water flow, to help reduce fungisd eggs, and to simulate the fanning in which the parents do, im also removing any fungused eggs i find. Shae
  10. I would have left them in the tank, if it were only them, but it is a community tank, and they were way to aggresive towards the other fish, plus my male apistogrammis double red, was almost killing the male Dwarf flag, because he wouldnt stop pushing the apisto away, and my male apisto isnt violent but he doesnt like being pushed around, and the male Dwarf wasnt learning his lesson, trying to be a good father. as soon as i removed the eggs they looked abit depressed, but stopped being so aggressive. 11. Well i got a pair of these cool little guys at the last Kapi-mana meeting (thanks Steve) I put these guys into my planted community tank in my bedroom, and was continually feeding bloodworms and BBS, i have watched the female get fatter and fatter, but nothing was happeneing so i left them be, however the last three days i have been to busy to feed my poor fish, leaving home at 6 in the morning (waking up at 5:50, lol) and getting home after 12 at night, so i just hit the sack. Anyways Blow Me Down, i wake up this morning and they are being unbelievable aggressive, so i think to myself that can only mean one thing, as all my other fish are being crowded at the back corner of the tank, so i have a little look round, and there they are 100+ eggs, right in the middle of nowere ontop of a pot, i thought this was rather exciting, however i couldnt leave the eggs in there because of the aggression the parents were showing to the other fish (there usually very peaceful) So ive removed the pot and its now in the fish room, with water from the tank, a hint of Meth blue, and a bubbler, will see how it goes, and give you updates and pictures. These dwarfs are honestly awsome! And i would love heaps more of them so i am quiet happy!! Cheers Shae
  12. For a basic one that could be addapted to suite a large system you would need the following things. LPH rate controllable pump Large plastic container- 20-200l (depending on what you can get) Air tube Bung Timer Firstly, you need to drill two holes in the bung, (make sure the bung is big enough to fit in the hole of the plastic container) Put two peices of air tube in each of those holes(one that will touch the bottom of the container, and one that only just sticks out of the bung) connect the one that touches the bottom to the tank you wish to do the automatic change on, with a clamp or wieght, depending on were you wish the water change to be done. Connect the other air tube that is placed at the top of the container to your pump, You will need to do a bit of fiddling with the timer and air pump controls to work out how much and how often the water is changed. Its a very simple idea, the air pumps into the container and the pressure causes the water to rise into the other peice of airtube and into your tank. Shae
  13. Go to somewhere like no name biulding recylers and pick up and old crappy bath for $20 Shae
  14. Its easy to fix males livebearers gonopodiums, simply put the male/s into tank by themselves, which they will be comfortable, dose it with a small amount of melafix, remove your males, then cut there extension off, put them back into the tank and watch them carefully for signs on infection or disease, after a few weeks, if you've cought it early enough and there sperm is still active, they should be breeding in no time, however if this is done inccorectly you could end up with a still sterile male or a dead fish.
