  1. hehehe, now i just need a female, got one for me to buy yet? Cheers Shae Oh and dude, nice pic!
  2. Mine are the same Carla, they will not touch anything, accept bloodworm, spirilina discs or trout/shrimp pellets. Shae
  3. Size doesnt help in sexing Blue Ram, Females can be bigger or smaller, it depends on age and food availability. Males can have the same amount of red in there tummys as the female. Finiage can be a helpful factor in determining sex, males have higher and bigger dorsal fins, with a long black point at the front, but again i have seen females with this aswell. Keep them in a stable tank, and what i mean by that, is dont move a stone to them, it could put them off, have places in the tank that they can readily spawn on, try not to get to close to were they've spawned, leave them be, if they feel threatend by you they can and will eat the eggs. I no it seems exciting that they've spawned and there doing there parenting thing, but you have a higher chance of a succesful spawn if your not putting ur face right up to the tank to stare at them every few minutes, or as some, iv heard of getting up in the middle of the night with a torch to see if the eggs have hatched yet, and they wake up in the moring to find there gone, because the parents felt threatened. The dwarf flag in your bag (poetic) looks exactly like my male, accept because it is stressed it has lost some colour. Im currently breeding the Dwarf Flags, will let you know when i have some available. Unless steve has some available first. Shae Shae
  4. ok well i have 11 tanks on the first stand so far, will post some pics once everything settles down, am mighty happy though, finaly i think its worthy of the title "fishroom". Still bits an peices here and there to do yet though. Cheers Shae
  5. ok well i have my first stand, and its getting painted this afternoon. i have two questions, one, what do i use across the railings of the stands to support the tanks? or are they small enuf that the edges of the steel frame will hold the tanks? also another question, should i do any preperation on the underside of the shelves for the lighting, as i havnt bought it yet and was wondering hw i was going to secure them to the unserside of the shelves. Shae
  6. I saved the picture to paint and marked each fry, then added it together and came up with 174, impressive. Shae
  7. Nice guppys. the DS gene runs in the female, so i hope you have a female of the DS, could do some really cool stuff with that! Shae
  8. I have done this by mistake, and my fish ate what they usually did and left most of the rest of the food to the gravel. as far as my posts go, I've obviously proved my point if all you can do is pick apart my spelling, of which everyone knows i struggle. Shae
  9. the reason i have chosen the word "unnessary" is because of your previous post .........."causing intentional unnessary suffering is" If you think that untammed animals are simply out there to eat everything they can, your looking at nature far to simply. If anything humans do this, animals eat what they must to live, or eat in excess to hibernate. Very few "bing eat" like humanity does, look at obesety in our population. Each animal, plant, tree and insect has its own roll in the eternaly circuling existence we call nature. Therefore they all have there own part in regulating the ecosystem. e.g. dirt, worm, bird, cat, dirt. and within that you can add, fruit, trees, plants, small insects, feterlisation etc etc. there is a purpose to each animal, insect, plant and humans life. that's it, plain and simple. Shae
  10. Of course not jude, because you wouldn't do it, so therefore there is no consequence or result to the enviroment. HummingBird - jude said this "cruelty of nature". secondly there is no unnessacary cruelty in nature, this is what i am trying to portray, every action of the untammed, is the neccasity in a chain of events to keep regulation in the wild. Thirdly vultures by nature, pick on the dead, almost dead, or sick, so it comes to me as a surprise that they kill perfectly healthy camels (will look into this further). Shae
  11. If the tank is the measurments you say it is then its 270l, taking in account of glass thickness. Shae
  12. Whos to say fish experience terror? i would say burning alive in the stomach acids of a fish would hurt much more, a slow torturous death (sorry to contridict you Blue). Jude nature is not cruel, the circle of life is a nessesaty. And for this very reason is why it is called "nature", it is out of our control, and to those that would impose there will on it, would cause detremental affects to our enviroment and the way we live (society). Shae
  13. How much are the Blue/Red CT? Shae
  14. Instead of adding unnatural chemicals to the water i would do atleast two of three things. First do a small water change Secondly while your at it, might as well do a gravel vac, amonia spikes etc could be upsetting your fish Thirdly (optional) put some peat in the water, it will stabalise the PH, and acts as a natural way of calming many fish. Shae
  15. http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/diy-concrete-background-vt2335.htm Have a look Shae
  16. has it harmed any fish yet? if the answer is no, dont worry bout it, identify it first and then see if you can catch it. No reason to take any measures against it at this stage, it could well be dead already. Shae
