  1. Usually not many plants are found in true Blackwater pools and the lighting is very subdued so perhaps a single low wattage bulb? It doesn’t really matter what the k rating is because the water will make it look yellow anyway. I dont think its worth importing a high quality bulb for a blackwater tank just go to Mitre10 and get a 865 for $5
  2. Another option is the osram 880 skywhite tube they are 8000k and look really good but I think the 865 give pretty good growth and they are cheap. Tank looks great BTW.
  3. Thanks guys. We have in-sewer-ants so we should get some most of the items or cash value back but that wont be until the new year probably. Since I posted this I have heard from a number of people and some of my friends who are having a harder time than we are. I have calmed down a bit and realised that at least no one was hurt and its just stuff and things that went missing but we still really do appreciate your kind words. It seems unfair of me to be grumpy about this when so many people are hurting terribly at this time of year because they have lost things that insurance cant replace. Still want to catch the little punks though.
  4. Our neighbour came over last night to say she had found my jigsaw in her front lawn. I thought it was strange but didn't click till 20 minutes later. Finally it dawned on me so I ran to the shed and every thing has gone... Thousands and thousand of dollars of power tools, kids Christmas presents, new 18' swimming pool not yet unpacked, new top of the line table say not yet unpacked, compressors, nail guns etc etc. We are totally gutted. We have had two lean years that our kids have had to watch other kids get nice presents so we have been saving really hard and going without a lot of stuff to get some nice things for the kids and each other and some filthy scum thought it would be easier to sit on their fat rrrrr's, smoke dope while collecting dole and take our stuff instead. Then the police said that the local Mr Plod wasn't on call at the moment so they might be able to get someone here next week if we are lucky. Clearly we aren't "lucky"
  5. I don't think "laided" is a word. Are they in a breeding tank or a mixed / community tank? Its to late now to really do anything because if you remove the eggs the parents will attack each other or the juveniles. If you remove the juveniles then they will likely eat the eggs. The only option is to remove both the eggs and the juveniles into separate tanks and then depending on the size of your breeding tank you may need to separate the parents for a few days to allow them to cool off as well. Which apisto is it?
  6. I gave up because I couldnt get anyone to come over and count to 10 for me.
  7. Sorry for the quality, I'm not much of a photographer. 6 week old Angels A.agassizi Juveniles and some A.trifasciata
  8. I have a bee-keeper friend so I tried larvae a few weeks ago, Fish loved them.
  9. I got some this week too. They took longer than I expected to get back to me and then a week to ship them but all was forgiven when I hatched the first lot. I have never had brine shrimp hatch in such big numbers. Hardly any un-hatched eggs at all. On my first attempt with them I just put my standard 1/2 tsp of eggs in 2 ltrs of salt water and had many millions more live shrimp than I needed. After 3 feeds each in 3 fry tanks stocked with a few hundred fry I had to biff the rest in the community tank.
  10. I agree with most of above and do my best to remove the rubbish where I can but it can be tough sometimes. I had to kill off about 30 angels last night because they were not up to standard and I wouldn’t sell them. Sometimes good sense (IMO) has to take over though. Some of the fish I have fry from at the moment are really rare, die extremely easily and usually have skewed sex ratios so I want to keep as many alive as possible at almost any cost. I suppose the old saying that says if you compromise for a good reason you will compromise for a bad one applies here
  11. I have been trying to get some from the guys in Tauranga but they wont answer their phones or return messages or texts so I might go with the South Island TM listing for hatching eggs. As you said its only $6 + shipping so it is worth a punt. The eggs I have now used to be good but over the last 2 years they are getting worse and worse till now I cant get more then about 20% hatch rate and most of the stuff I get is unhatched eggs. Decap is great food on its own right and if you "popcorn" it the fish go crazy for it.
  12. This is going to end badly :spop: I could probably organize it but you are along way away from Bulls. I realised the pun after writing this but decided to leave it anyway
  13. Mine spawned too but then the female got a bump on her head which led to a fungused eye which then fell out and then she died. Dad ate the fry That was a quick $80 down the toilet........again!!
  14. A drop of milk in your bucket or a few drops of miracle grow liquid fert will give you green water so will one of 2 drops of ammonia. Or buy a goldfish and put it in a tank outside.
  15. The others are right about the ingredients of pH up but angels are south american cichlids and dont mind slightly low pH so I dont think you should need to use it. I had some in a blackwater tank and they seemed very happy. I wouldnt go chucking any chemicals or any other guff in your tank until you know what paramaters you have now and what paramaters you want to get to. Just biffing stuff in your tank because it sounds like a good idea at the time will cause more problems in the long term. If your fish are sick after a water change then check you supply water but Upper Hutt water is really good quality and should be fine for Angels.
  16. I made a version of this created by Eddie on Simply Discus. Its a seafood mix without beefheart but my discus loved it. http://forum.simplydiscus.com/showthread.php?68857-Basshead-s-tuna-salmon-mix
  17. I have ordered and paid for some fish from Wellington and had arranged for them to get collected today but the collector / driver is no longer going to Wellington. Is anyone leaving Wellington heading north this week that could collect some fish from The Pet Centre. Ideally to be dropped of in Bulls but I will collect from Palmerston North, Levin or even Otaki if I have to. They wont ship these fish and I dont have the time to drive down the whole way this week. Happy to shout a cappuccino.
  18. I use the modified PMDD formula here and my local hydroponics store are yet to charge me for the ingredients. I usually throw $2 in the donation tin for them.
  19. Sounds like she has complained to you ? I have a mate walked off-site when he came back from holiday because his out of office reply on email wasn't as funny as he thought it was and offended some people. It might be nothing or it could be a case of the company needing to survive in a tough environment? Also remember that many bosses monitor face-book and twitter accounts so it could be comments made on a social media site perhaps? (Adidas )
  20. “Laurie got offended that I used the word "puke." But to me, that's what her dinner tasted like.” Jack Handy I wonder how bitter humble pie is by comparison.
  21. Sorry to hear that. They are the hardest fish to keep. I lost my last female agassizi and my second to last male cockatoo a few weeks ago for no reason. Similar thing, they just slowly get worse and worse with no cure.
  22. IE9 is a disaster. Uninstall it and go back to 8.
  23. Bilbo

  24. I have plenty of off cuts if you want but just glue over should hold it on a small tank like that
