Last I heard 3 x 40l bags left. Just confirming pricing now
  3. I got a Sunsun mid last year and its the quietest and best filter I have owned.
  4. Did anyone get any of these from the lasy shipment. I have not yet had a chance to buy some but I was wondering if anyone did and especially if anyone got a pair? I wonder if its time to do another one of those 'Who has what Apisto' type posts? For me A. agassizi (20 + adults all females) A. hongsloi (2 x females) A. trifasciata (1 adult male and 10 - 15 fry which all look like males)
  5. They are and the purchase price is the least of it. I would love to find that elusive money producing fish too. I think it is possible to not lose money if you give up a lot of time in the effort and have good luck. For me, I just love the hobby and if I spend $100 - $200 a month then I figure I have got off lightly compared to some hobbies.
  6. It is probably technically possible but I would say extremely unlikely. Female apistogramma are pretty fussy about their partners and so any male of a different species would usually not be considered. Agassizi and cacatuoides are completely different groups and complexes.
  7. That looks great Antwan. I love the look of the wood and the festivum are cool.
  8. Thats a real shame but unfortunately the way of so many apistogramma posts. I feel your pain, I have 20 female agassizi without any males and a tankfull of what looks like male trifasciata with no girls. Fingers crossed for you getting a girl or two.

I can get turface. A friend of mine has it and he has said he is happy if anyone on here wants some to let me know. I have a little bit that I am sampling and from all accounts its fantastic stuff.
  10. I would agree that that's them alright. :happy1: Awesome. I have one 500 x 500 breeding tank spare too Who is offering a breeding pair? I didn't know they had been bred here yet.
  11. Nice fish Joe. I haven't seen orange flashes for years so its good to see them again. Best of luck with them. The domestic strains of cacatuoides don't always follow the rules as far as colouration and fin shape go so its tougher to tell than it is with wilds but I would bet on you having both sexes on those photo's. :smot: I am still waiting on conformation of A. pertensis. Have you seen them?
  12. I actually think that's kind of funny, that is exactly what my brother said That sounds sort of like what I was thinking. They use lead free solder now on most things and its useless. When we used to repair cordless and cellphones and couldn't find the dry joints we just covered the boards with flux and used a mini blowtorch. That usually either did the trick or completely destroyed it.
  13. Hi and welcome. Awesome to have another South American fan here
  14. My neighbour in Wellington did the petrol thing too and lit it. Took out half the clay bank but didn't kill all of them. Funny fat German man doing his Linford Christie impersonation down the street. I poured old engine oil down the holes of the one I had and never saw another wasp come out.
  15. I have had my PS3 now for quite a few years but hardly ever used it but recently I decided to give it a go. It had always worked on the rare occasion that I tried it so I went out a bought GT5. First game I have bought since I got it. I played it once and the dratted console died. It wont read any type of disc. Its out or warranty so I pulled it to bits and cleaned the laser and re soldered the laser assembly but still no go. I have swapped the entire laser assembly but it still wont go. The disc feeds in OK but it wont spin even with a new mechanism. No YLOD, no error messages just takes the disc in and then on the screen it shows that its trying to read it but it wont. Disc wont move at all. I was going to re-flow the main board but I thought I would ask for advice first. Its been quite a few years since I did component level repairs. Does anyone know enough about how these work to give me some ideas. No "have you tied unplugging it" or "did you format the HDD" sort of comments as I am well past that stuff. Its a hardware issue not related to the drive assembly. I don't really want to lose it as its a backwards compatible model. Sony will fix it for $350 but I cant afford that at the moment.
  16. Rams do not get bigger than most apisto's but they will usually live peacefully enough together as long as you have a large enough tank and hiding spots. The only time you might have a problem is if one or both try to spawn and even then I have never seen any ram getting the better of any apisto, especially a female apisto with eggs or fry. Most female apistos require a 30 x 30cm territory each. Males usually have one about twice this size or more. Blue rams will usually only defend a small territory. A.cacatouides or macmasteri should go well with them as they require very similar parameters.

    Apistogramma

Wow. I would hate to be a newbie trying to learn anything from this thread. NaCl = H2O = NaCLH2O or simply a solution of salt dissolved into water. If you evaporate the water out you are left with salt. Its a completely reversible reaction. You can keep apistogramma in NZ tap water if you wish. Certainly it would save you money on water treatment and food

    Apistogramma

Please don't follow this recipe for apistogramma. It is probably not far off for Lake Malawi or Tanganyika fish though. The wild A.macmasteri and all the macmasteri group including the hongsloi complex come the Río Orinoco drainage which is a typical black water river so has an acidic pH, usually between 3.5 and 6, and almost no measurable hardness. The more colourful domestic form, that Joe has posted pictures of, are a lot more forgiving as far as water parameters but still wont tolerate the above recipe for to long.

    Apistogramma

Can you tell us what size tank you have. Apistogramma need a good amount of swimming room, good quality soft acidic water and plenty of good hiding spaces. I would normally recommend a pair or a trio in a tank with a foot print of at least 600mm x 400mm. I can put up some pictures of my tanks if you would like. That macmasteri is a :nfs: Joe and I would also recommend cockatoos as another good first apisto.

  22. Blue Circle Whitespot cure. Can not go past this product. Doesn't stain anything, fades to clear after a short time and has never failed me yet and best of all its safe on just about any fish.
  23. Go to Port Nicholson even if it does end up costing a bit more. He is one of the best tank makers around.
  24. Very sorry to hear about this. We have all lost fish or entire tanks due to our own naivety but it doesnt make it any easier. I am sure plenty of people would be only to pleased to help out in the future especially in Hamilton. Its not like you live in crappy Bulls where the only other fish-keeper moved to Auckland The only advice is don't give up and learn from the experience. You wouldn't take your car to the hairdresser to do a tune up so I am sure they now feel really bad and may be to scared to face you. Forgive them and move on.
  25. A guy who bought some fish of me recently said he was breeding them. I will do some digging of my own and see what I can find out.
