  2. I gave all mine to my father inlaw to look after when I couldnt afford to get my licence renewed last year. I have Ruger 10/22 (my favorite) a 270 and a bolt .22. Haven't had a shoot in years

    Borelli Mixup

The other problem might be that Apistogramma sp. "Steel Blue" doesnt apear on this list http://www.biosecurity.govt.nz/imports/ ... ic.all.htm ??
  4. We seem to play this game every few months but I will play again A. Bitaeniata, Cacatuoide, Agassizi and Panduro. M. Ramirezi
  5. I think perhaps a pair or 2 at most to begin with just to see how they settle in. It might even be an idea to form a harem of a good male and 2 or 3 of females as the females have small territories and the male will patrol the whole tank. I personally like having a few males together because they are more likely to come out and look nicer. Make sure there is loads of hiding places. Sounds counter intuitive but the easier they can get away the more they will come out.
  6. I have at the moment 40+ cockatoo's in a 50ltr tank without any issues, they even eat from my fingers. I also have had another 50ltr tank with 2 pairs of rams, 2 panduro, 2 other apisto's (possibly borellii) and a pair of cockatoo's and a few misc tetra's, guppies and bristlenoses with no problems at all. Rams even bred in there. It is good advice to give them some of there own space and I have seen them get a bit protective of there fry but very seldom with cockatoo's get agressive beyond a bit of chasing. (unlike agassizi which are just plain mean when they have fry) For dwarf's is not the volume that matter as much as the size of the foot print because they will hang around middle to bottom most of the time. Dither fish like guppies or danios that hang around the top will help alot to bring them out for food.
  7. yes it does :-) I have tried that method many times and failed. Best method is to keep under water at all times. I still managed to only keep 20 of my last batch. Dont quite know why because I have never had problems with rams before but I have lost 100's of them over the last few months.
  8. I have a stack of plastic jerry cans you can borrow for moving water. most are 20ltrs. I think I have about 20 or so of them

    Peat Spawning Killies

This is a stcky post by evilknieval69. Just for Nothos though. Probably be easier for the killie guys to answer this if they knew what fish specifically you were talking about http://killifishaustralia.forumcircle.c ... c.php?t=96
  10. Nice science lesson :-) When filling your water drum try spraying the water rather than just allowing the hose to pour in. It helps the gasses to come out and if water is kept moving it also removes it faster. But I agree also at least 24hrs.

    Levamisole Dose Rate

My maths was so far off on this. Read Ryans post below to get correct dose rate. Thanks Ryan for correcting it
  12. These are the bigger ones. Only 9 left though This is one of the fry tanks and another fry tank New pair are hiding away so unable to get a photo of them yet.
  13. No sooner had I got of the phone last night saying to a friend that I think I might have 2 male cockatoo's (in answer to your earlier question Casserole) I had a look in the fish room to find a bright yellow female cockatoo dancing around. Up until then it/she had been just plain grey with no markings at all. Maybe more babies sooner than I thought. I need more growout tanks!!!!!. I need to stop Bitaeniata eating the eggs every time too. 3 spawnings in a row. Next time I might seperate them.
  14. Awsome Ryan. Congrats. I only have about 50 left at the moment from 2 spawnings and unlikely to get more for a while.
  15. Like what Ryan says. Do not 'scrape' them off the driftwood. Dont play just leave them alone with mum. If you havent sorted fry food yet then do it now. Remember the second best thing that can happen is that you are over prepaired with loads of food and no fry survive. Regardless of what you choose to feed them, have a big microworm culture on backup.
  16. Its a good idea Stella. We have alot of very good people up here and alot of experienced people in all areas. I will be in for a get together. I would add though that we should wait for a few weeks for Ryan to get back into NZ so he can choose to come along if he wishes.
  17. Thank you for sharing bdspider. I found them interesting and quite cool. Maybe not ideal but intersting
  18. They look similar to mine. Very nice fish but slow growing. They seem to eat anything but do like wingless fly maggots and anything that moves. Not overly agressive but as Phoenix says they are territorial. They show off alot better with dither fish in the tank

    Worst find

Him last week I found a few fry in the tank but only maybe 10 left. tank is / was a breeding tank and no other fish in there. My thoery is that he started to hoover up the fry and mum tried to get them out of his mouth. I dont realy know but end result is the same.

    Worst find

My absolute favorite pair of fish. Both dead and over a 100 three day old fry missing.
  21. I dont know if this is a good practice anymore but years ago at Lower Hutt Aquarium Club we had a speaker who said easiest way is to have 2 copper wires attacthed to each side of a 9v battery. Stick one end in each end of the tank and copper sulphate is formed. This kills the snails. I tried it once with no ill effects on fish or plants and definately killed the snails. I prefer clown loach way these days.
  22. I went for a perminant option because I could never get the dividers to stay put. Back plate is an old piece of plastic that I found and cut with a jigsaw. And some baby Agassizi in the middle
  23. Um no! Cant prove anything. Helps being an IT company lol. No restrictions
  24. My female is proudly strutting around with a mass of fry today. Tips for some other breeders. Make sure the cave has an opeing only just big enough for the biggest of the pair to get in. About the size of a finger or so. I use 1/2 coconut shells and bore a hole using a knife. Leave male in for 2 or 3 days after you see the fry swimming around and then remove either the fry or the mother after 2 weeks. If anyone has tips on how to keep more fry alive then I would love to hear it because I seem to be able to produce tons of fry but only grow up 15 - 20 of them each time.
  25. I have not ever had a problem with beef heart either. I used to just clean it and freeze it and grate it directly into the tanks but as more and more recipes come out with different additions like carrots and paprika and garlic etc I have tried them. I am about to go back to the plain heart as fish seem to like it better.
