    what Silicone?

I would probably not use any glue from the 1-2-3 $ shop when you are trusting $100's with it. The list Caryl put up is probably the best. $20 is not to much to pay for a result you can trust is it? General rule of thumb is clear and smells like strong vinagar.
  3. I attempted to show a phostphate filter at our DIY meeting a week or so ago. Its a really simple filter made from a bucket and a length of pipe and an icecream container lid. Works very well and is only a 1/2 hour build. Similar plans can be found here http://www.aquariumslife.com/saltwater- ... er-screen/ Its a matter of making it easy for phosphates and nitrates to cause the same problems but in a controlled place so easy to manage.
  4. As above. I want some. How easy are they to sex?
  5. Blue Circle whitespot cure. Dump the required dosage in, even use a little less if you have sensitive fish like loaches. No need to muck around it just fixes it. The best, fastest and one of the cheapest cures around. Wont hurt plants.
  6. If you want really cheap then just go for 2 or 3 high concrete blocks with a flat board and poly on top. Doesnt look great but costs are low and it can be covered with an old sheet to hide the blocks.
  7. Hi. This is fine and wont do any harm at all but it isnt normal. I have to ask how much water do you have an how big is your heater? It may be that your light or some other thing is adding to the heat into your tank and your heater is set to 25c, or your heater is set to 27c and is not big enough to keep up with the amount of water it needs to heat especially with the cold night we just had. Most fish are fine with a overnight drop of a degree or two, they would get that in the wild anyway.
  8. I always try to have them vertical, I dont have any good reason but always thought that maybe gravity might play a part on keeping the bimetal strip away. Sounds a bit odd because I have no proof that that is the case
  9. I found a huge rise in brown algae with daltons at first but it settled after a while. I wish I could make green water, even when I try to I cant.
  10. Multiple lines down with trees falling all over the place. Fixed now with no harm done except for the 7 year old thinking the world had ended because no electric blanket or bedtime story. Dont make trees like they used to, must be soft up here because I didnt think it was that bad. Seems most of Bulls was out so thats like over 10 occupied houses and close to 50 people affected.
  11. typical typical typical. im sitting in the dark on my pda. power been out for an hour so far.
  12. Might be easier to plug into your neighbours? Save alot on power costs but wont help if the power goes out in the street
  13. I had a pile of them sitting round in the shed until a few months ago. I used one for a few months as we dont have the most relyable power. It was just on the air pump and water pump. Didnt have a powercut until a week after I took it off. Found the same as suphew. It costs a fortune just to run it. I idea behind a UPS is it turns on automatically if you are not home. Unlike a generator. If you really want one but dont mind a manual version then fit one and charge it for a few days and then just have it on standby. It should keep its charge for a month. Even a small one should run a standard airpump or a small filter for half an hour or so.
  14. I think by looking at it the hardest problem is getting meds to it. It looks like its protected by either the skin of the fish or a coating of some sort. Perhaps, for the sake of 1 fish, kull it and try to remove whatever it is. You will soon tell if it is a worm or just puss.
  15. what other symptoms, is the fish swimming rapidly or slowly. Is it eating etc. Hard to tell if its a worm like anchor worms or a bacteria. I have never seen anything like that but I would probably start by isolating him and trying Tonic or Salt just to see. Next guess would be PP at 1 - 1.5ppm or Formalin.
  16. This a good example of how not to build a room. Its a bit of a mess but its mine
  17. I am looking forward to the my first meeting. Should be good as I know Ryan has been putting in a huge amount of work to make it alot of fun for everyone
  18. The medication should be droncit. Drontal has that other guff in it that I dont think is safe. Sorry that your vet gave you poor advice and sold you the wrong stuff. Chalk it up to experience perhaps. PM me if you cant get metro locally and still want some.
  19. I have done a bit more checking. This Chronic Wasting Syndrome is usually caused by poor water quailty and is easlily transfered to humans. Perhaps I should try and catch it? might be a good diet apart from the death part. Most recomended treatment is Metronidazole so you may need to sweet talk your vet. It doesnt matter to much if the garlic is freshly dug up or store bought. Fresh garlic doesn’t smell much at all. When it is crushed or juiced a chemical reaction happens, that is why the smell gets so powerful so quickly after cutting it. It takes about 5 minutes for the reaction to peak and lasts around an hour before slowly fading. After this the garlic looses it potency as a de-wormer. The smell stays for a while and it still useful as an attractant to entice fish to feed. Tablets, crushed, pre processed and mixed into frozen food mix garlic will still work to fix internal problems but only at a small % of how good it is when fresh.
  20. I would use a general wormer like levamisole just as a precaution. If you are going to use garlic it must be fresh raw garlic and it has to be used and eaten within an hour of cutting or juicing it.
  21. It depends on what you are putting in it. If you have discus then go light because the dark colour will make the fish go darker. I like the idea of black on the apisto tanks but at the moment the fish room is light blue.

    Typical !

Could be 3 females? Cant really sell as a breedig pair if no babies have ever been hatched. Congrats anyway, a definate female :-)

    outlet pipe

Right Serphew it isnt SW section but your idea is the best one anyway. The salties have some great ideas that move across to fresh water. Like the overflow comb, which should solve the problem. A 4cm pipe is huge, your flow rate must be quite high.
