  1. Sorry PC issues! Thanx for all the tips. I'll have to see how I get on. Unsure off strain - where can I find out?
  2. Ah, looks like the parents eating the batch proved to be a prophetic statement :-( Eggs all gone the next day. Still signs look good. My M is @ 6cms and the female about the size of a smallish red tetra (4cm??). The only signs of aggression I've seen from them is the F when the eggs were there and she was busy chasing all others away. I might see about establishing a separate tank for them and see what happens. By egg yolk, you mean the yolk from there eggs and not from a dozen of new worlds finest?
  3. My female cockatoo has just laid some eggs (I think! @ 50 little grey/brown blobs on a rock face with java fern cover and she's mighty protective of the surrounding area and has turned a nice yellow shade). Tank is 90L with 6 glowlights tetras/8 redeye tetras/2 GBA/ and the pair of ciclids. Any help for raising the fry appreciated. Do I need to put them in a seperate tank? Feeding etc? Cheers
  4. No metal holding it down in place. Have put fert balls in place but elsewhere as well so unlikely to be that. Oh well! While I have your attention ... my school of red eye tetras (8) spends its time at the top of the tank hiding behind a plant - no obvious bullying by the male cockatoo ciclid - but not the school of flashing silver bodies I hoped for. Ideas? - they have been in tank for 2 months and where there before the ciclids. Thanks again, you guys have been v helpful.
  5. The substrate is "autumn harvest" as per Animates. Pea sized and is @ 5cms depth with no other material. Whats happening is that in 1 section of tank the gravel is being tinted black - not slimy and doesnt really rub off. Goes thru the entire gravel layer. Also the roots of my Sword plant took on a greyish tinge. Unfortunately at back of tank so cannot really photograph. Cheers.
  6. Tank been set up for @ 6months. Filter churning over at @ 6 times vol/hour. Problem only recent - last fn or so. Will check filters and "de-gunk" if necessary. Any ideas on gravel discoloration? Thanks for prompt replies.
  7. Newbie to hobby with 2 issues: 1. Something that looks like house dust accumulating on the gravel/plants. Greyish/brown colour it doesnt "stick" to things but moves freely when disturbed. Have vacummed but it seems to be everywhere. 2. I had an amazon sword that wasnt growing and the gravel around it was discolouring blackish/grey - the sword also had its roots system turning blackish. Any ideas on what these 2 things are and how to stop? Its a 90L tank - 2x GBA, 2 x cats, 10 x tetras and 2 cockatoos. Water change 25% weekly. TIA.
