  1. Excellent, I will try not to pull up to much sand. What is the most plant friendly loach?
  2. I am starting to get sick of my layout. If I pull out all the plants and start again, will that mean I will go through the NTS and brown algae period etc?
  3. Have to agree, that looks pretty sweet.
  4. I did not think it was particularly safe at 10mm and I also queried the thickness as a well know tank builder in Nelson made it. I guess at the end of the day, the customer gets, what the customer wants. I have not confirmed yet, so I have some time to ponder on what I can do with it but the half half planted idea is defiantly on the top of the list at this stage.
  5. I have pretty much done that in a different tank. Would it not be a pain in the bum to get them out of needs be? It was originally made as a turtle tank, so it currently has a ledge in the tank for a platform. I would be worried about the humidity because it would go into the fish room if I got it.
  6. A combination of a black out, increased flow, co2 and nitrate seems to have delt with my cyano
  7. It is only 10mm glass. The half half planted (riparium ?) was the one I was considering the most. I have never looked into archer fish, what else can they go with?
  8. I have been offered a tank, it is 1500x600x900(high) because of the height I am unsure what to do with it. I have thought about cutting 200 from the top so it is more of a 'normal' height. I also thought haps and peacocks but there may be to much empty bottom and mid to keep me happy. I thought discus and a couple of plecs or half filing it and have some plants breaking the water and enjoying the humidity. Any thoughts or other ideas/options
  9. And pay the power bill....
  10. Stunning! Its due time I repay the bourbon favor and come see these in real life.
  11. Both of my daughters do speed skating and my partner is their coach ( She used to represent NZL in numerous skating disciplines) so the reason we are heading down is the regional competition which from my understanding is the trials/test for nationals. Also from what I hear if they make nationals and start getting good, skating can be mighty expensive, so daddy's fish hobby may need to take a break... :tears:
  12. The Mrs said two hours as well, so I will try do it in 35 min...... But in all seriousness, my girls have a skating compensation down that way in a couple of months so I figure I could scratch the fish itch while I am down that way. So if there is any shops or breeders worth looking at please let me know.
  13. How much extra travel is Timaru from CHCH and then Oamaru from Timaru? Also what shops are down in Timaru and Oamaru that are good for fish and fish supplies?
  14. Very nice! I have also found great growth with my Panaques despite hearing otherwise several times.
  15. Ummm no, not really. Point taken, I shall not mix them.
  16. Is it acceptable to keep them in the same enclosure is it is big enough to hold them?
  17. I put it into my 200L plants tank and threw in the guppies. 2 hours later, 6 less guppies and it is behaving "normally" again.
  18. I think he is implying that you could have more than 3. Tetras prefer to be in groups of their own type. If it was my tank I would work out what of the three you prefer and increase that group by another 6-10 and remove the other two type, maybe to another tank where you could repeat the process.
  19. It is still in the grow out tanks. Will probably be in it for another month. I will put the guppies in tomorrow when I do my water changes.
  20. I was gunna throw some guppies in as feeders last night, but I thought that may counter the work with it eating pellets and stuff. It is in with some dwarf plecs for now, but no open water swimmers. I may look into a small group of something, any suggestions? I was avoid the towel, but will add some floaters to the tank. When it moves it will be in a move active room compared to poked away in the spare room so I hope that helps it.
  21. Silver, there is no lights over the tank.I am dismantling my current fish room this weeked so when it is moved I will cover it with a towel or some duck weed to block out some light.
