  1. We are in Napier and our water doesn't have chlorine in it so am I correct in presuming I don't need to add anything to the water at all?
  2. When we first started our tank off about 6 weeks ago the pet shop sold us some Nutrafin Cycle & Nutrafin Aqua plus and said we need to use it every water change. Do we or are they just trying to sell us more stuff? I have been using it but the bottle of Cycle is just about out and wondering if I need to buy more or not
  3. Thanks, we are going to add more fish be we have been told to add them slowly. We are thinking of something to keep the algae at bay but don't want anything that will grow too big as the tank is only small. Someone suggested an Oto catfish as it is a bit smaller?? Would dwarf Gourami go ok in this size tank? Is 1 ok by itself or do they need to be in pairs? Any other suggestions?
  4. that's what I thought originally but I was told on 2 different occasions that they would be fine on their own (or in the group of 3 of them) They seem quite happy in there, they are feeding well and look like they get on ok. What would indicate they were unhappy?
  5. Its a Blue planet tank and we are using the filter it came with. What is wrong with 3 tetra's in it? Pet shop said it wouldn't be an issue?
  6. We have a small 50ltr tank that we started just over a month ago. All the levels have settled down and we have had 3 tetra (serpae, Black Phantom & a black widow) in it for a good 3 weeks. We want to add 1 or more feature fish but unsure what to add with the size of the tank and what can go with the tetra's. There is so much conflicting information. Any suggestions would be appreciated
  7. We are starting out and have a Black Widow tetra, Serpae Tetra and a Phantom tetra in the tank. We brought the Aquaone Tropical flakes however only the Serpae tetra seems to be eating them. The other 2 (as fare as I have seen) have not eaten in 3 days. Should I be worried? Should I try a different food?
  8. Yes that was me =) We just have a few tetra in it at the moment and I am watching the water levels. Won't be putting any more in for at least another week
  9. Yes we did a fishless cycle and got the shop to test the water before buying some fish for it yesterday. They water is looking much better now that it has had a few days to settle. Thanks for all your help everyone
  10. The tank is a Blue Planet 50ltr tank and we are just using the filter that comes with it. As to what fish we are starting with, we are not 100% on that as it depends on what the shop has. We may just start with neon's to make sure we have everything right to start with unless something else catches our eye at the shop.
  11. We are new to the world for fish keeping and we are currently trying to set up our tank. We are all ready to get our first fish in tomorrow (and Mr 4 is sooo excited) however we put rinsed Silica sand in about 3 hours ago and the tanks is still really cloudy. What have we done wrong? How long is it likely to take to settle?? Can we still put a fish in it tomorrow or is it harmful?
