feeding african cichlids minced up door to door salespeople is a bad thing suposedly
  6. mmmmmmmmmmmmm hangi... havent had one for ages, landlords dont like me digging holes in the backyard :digH:
  7. yeah, but will last a little while, would use java moss myself but if you dont have it you must make do i guess
  8. they will change their personalities and become less aggressive if you have them in a school of at least 6 (the more the merrier I'd go for a school of 12 or more). they will be happier too. remember they can get quite big too Black widows can be quite fin nippery too, so expect a little bit of it anyways.
  9. didn't try, some people claim bumblebee gobies ( know someone with 3 puffers and 5 gobies in a 50L long tank and it works for them. also have heard danios do well as they are too fast for the puffers
  10. how are your nitrates at 0ppm???? even with 2 x weekly water changes and a heavily planted tank a 0 reading would be hard to achieve unless you have a ery understocked tank. (someone here is bound to contradict this though) and yes Flourish EXCEL works wonders on BBA, many threads here on how it works, I think most were resolved (hence the end of the discussion), best way imo is to squirt it directly on it with a syringe. nice and simple page http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/algae-control/removing-hair-algae.php
  11. P.bintan from the net I tend to agree, I think I have 3 females  none with the extended tail fin. I need to change the tank layout though, they are not colouring up properly with a lighter substrate.
  12. ahhhh yes, I had one of those (present from a rep) it had a small gap by the outlet pipe that had such strong suction it kept sucking in danios and killing them, took me a few days to work out where they were going. the cheap Aqua one ones are one of the better ones (although I cut the sponges in half and add some ceramic noodles) still too much flow for too little filtration in my mind (good for hillstreams and mechanical for big cichlids though)
  13. lol you probably won't see them much, try 5 in a 75L, or even better 3 in a 45L best with around 15L per fish, can have a few more if heavily planted (which you will probably want anyways to help with snails and to keep the tank pretty. don't forget to make a snail farm (read bucket of water full of pond snails) about 2 - 3 weeks before getting them. most will take bloodworm but live snails are the best food by far
  14. shouldn't be noisy, mine are pretty much silent
  15. mosquitos hard?, put a bucket of water in the back yard, net out larvae. hrm might try the blackworms though, think i've got a few growing in a pile of old gravel
  16. you have guppies in your back yard???
  17. many stores don't like getting them as they really need a tank to themselves, being both bite sized and agressive. they normally aint to pricey either
  18. hrmmm compter stutter 12cm (I wish I had a 1.12m catfish)(and a tank to keep it in)
  19. you make it sound hard. easiest would be infurosoria followed by mosquito larvae
  20. try burying small stones in the area they are laying in
  21. probably an evil mutant hybrid :digH:
