  1. roos and wallabies are good, shrink a bit when cooking, crocodile is nice too, kinda like chicken and fish mixed, all of our supermarkets do veal. possum is nice but you gotta check them to make sure they clean to eat (look for white spots on the liver) snake is nice. frogs, rabbit, rat, guinea pigs, quail, pheasant, peacock.....
  2. oooh, forgot to ask, what other fish are in therE???, bristlenose and many loaches do not like salt
  3. just a small bit of salt, its more to lessen the nitrate toxicity, and to promote the mucus layer, try about 1 tablespoon per 20-40L pmupkin, nuke it for about 10 seconds or until soft, the put it fridge until cold try this http://www.aquarium-pond-answers.com/2007/10/mollies-in-aquariums.html good bit of info
  4. known as the "shimmies" adding a little salt can help, also checking your nitrates (mollies are really sensitive to nitrates, keep them below 10ppm) also increase the amount of vegetable matter in their diet, algae rocks, pleco chips, softened pumpkin blanched lettuce etc...
  5. just me or a lot of people getting suspect readings from ammonia tests atm???
  6. I have one for sale at work (imported as a pulcher) for $50, its pretty small though, have one imported as a vittata for $60 (a bit bigger)
  7. its not but when the O2 content is higher (and CO2 lower) it will transfer a lot quicker, i.e. if the air was very high in CO2 then CO2 is going to be absorbed until the concentrations are more equal and virtually no O2 would be absorbed
  8. yeps, get monday, tuesday off
  9. and Then said non decaying matter became decaying matter
  10. make it even more useful, plant it with basil, it'll enjoy the warmer temps as well.
  11. why would you need that much??? most of that filtration is wasted anyways. btw a larger sized sponge filter with a small/medium sized powerhead will do a lot more than 1000LPH and with about the same amount of mechanical and biological filtration
  12. Peckoltia pulcher and Vittata are quite common atm
  13. have 2 common species (last time I checked) most commonly sold as the golden apple snail and the brown mystery snail. the Blue snails we see around are a colour morph of the brown snail. as far as I know the apples are Pomacaea caniculata and the mystery snails are Pomacaea bridgessi, although these ID's are very suspect and open to debate (I dunno if these names are still valid) both will destroy any plant you put near them, thought the golden ones are a lot better at this. they can escape but not unless the water conditions are really bad. although I would advocate a lid as they are quite inquisitive and can dissapear until bad smells help you find them. If you keep them make sure you watch them closely, they tend to have individual personalities and can be good little pets. feed them a diet high in protein, vegetable matter and calcium. pumpkin is good and can make the golden snails go a bit more orange.
  14. wonder what it would taste like smoked..... crap????
  15. was he test tube clean??? some contaminates can screw with your results
  16. so its possible that yo (great grand) momma ate ate my great gran momma, damn she must be fat.... hehehe what family names??? I come from the Youngs and the Smythes
  17. I find that a lot of stores fail to offer, or even know about how to keep fish on the cheap. best way to test them though is ask them about the activated carbon in most HOB's / all in one tanks. inferior is not the best word for it, if it does the job, does it well then it isn't inferior. why have a canister filter on a tank when a sponge filter would do just the same (except for aesthetic reasons) seems like a lot of people waste a heap of money.
  18. if the bacteria don't have food they die, pretty low impact on tank. I use it cause of the amount of tanks I run. and IMO its just a stronger form of the aquarium stuff (it also supposedly has a specific bacteria to combat string algae) try a 120L tank, add 20 4cm goldfish, plus 50ml product and with testing every 3 hours never got an ammonia reading
  19. if your local don't sell them I would be a bit wary that they don't offer cheaper options. hell I even have corner box filters

  21. Kiwi born and bred (we are getting pretty rare nowdays) family history : colonised the Rai Valley in the Marlborough district around the early 1800's got told by a maori that we are too salty to eat
  22. to be honest these systems work without poret foam easily, but the poret is a lot better quality and easier to work with, why would you not use it???, its pretty cheap too comparatively
