Try Stone and water world in Ellerslie (Marua Road) The shop can be tricky to find as there is a lot of roadworks down there at the moment. You won't find cheaper or better selection, and if you want something specific, I'm sure they'll get it for you.

I'm using the white silica sand from Hollywood fish farm , with 5 BN's and a Tiger panaque, which so far seem to have no problems.

I'd say it sounds like perhaps your new filter has been the culprit.. perhaps an ammonia spike due to the removal of the previous beneficial bacteria colony which was inside the old filter. Did you use any old filter media from your other filter, in your new one ?

Latest power bill was $350.00 ish , up from around 200.00 before I got into fish, and before this hellish cold weather. I have 3 tanks running (160L, 60L and little quarantine cube) - But I also live in an extended garage. ... i.e no insulation whatsoever. I use a gas heater, because then it won't make my powerbill look so bad, even tho I have to fork out for gas every week

Are you running the venturi bit ? (air pipe) I've found using that on my Hailea bt-400 made it super noisy.

After reading this I had to check measurements just in case, it seems like the poly narrows slightly in the middle. The stand is level as far as I can tell with my oldschool spirit level - Is this still likely to pose a problem ? I would have thought if the middle of the poly was narrower than the ends, the ends would crush down to compensate and level off.

I have a very small gap (about 2 mm, if that) with my polystyrene also . Had the tank sitting like it is for the last 4-5 months without an issue (so far) . I'm pretty sure it's an inconsistency with the polystyrene more so than a non-level stand / tank. But in saying that, I didn't check the stand with a level. =)

I think the police should have held out until they had more evidence - Charge him with the other crimes he admitted to, but hold off the murder charge until he had some time to sweat in prison for the other convictions. They may have had more information come through, or he may have cracked under the stress. Without a lawyer to guide his every move , I get the impression this is one guy that would have broken eventually. I think he did it, but on the evidence provided the case was never going to get a guilty verdict. No concrete evidence, no proven murder weapon, no witnesses. The perfect crime perhaps.

Yesterday, my partner got back from her parents, after a fornight recovering from knee surgery. She stayed with them, as our yard is undergoing renovation and we have limited access. I purchased some plants on trademe about 20 minutes after she arrived back, and was telling her about them . Her : "You're more excited about the #%$@#$ plants than you are that I'm back ! I hate those %$#%#$ fishes ! Me : "Fish dear, Fish." Couch was comfy last night....
