  1. My tank is 450mm deep with a 20-30mm sand/daltons bed. I have 6 36w T5HO bulbs. I dose with flourish and excel. The tank is overfiltered and understocked. The tank has been going for around 8 months now. I'm 31, pisces, and self employed. My shoe size is 12. :sml1: Any other details I can give you ? Thanks Dennis, I'll look into Rotala Rotundifolia.
  2. 3WPG isn't enough ? From what I've read that's considered medium to high lighting in a 450 deep tank
  3. Hi all Quick question : What red coloured aquatic plants hold their colour in low tech-ish conditions ? I'm running about 3WPG and dose flourish / excel Looking to add a bit of colour to my tank to break up all the greens in there. I've bought some Rotala Wallichii but it doesn't hold much red at all , mainly green with a red hue. The guy who sold it to me said it would do just as well without Co2 and super high light. It grows pretty fast , but just won't colour up how I would like.
  4. That is looking great ! I had the same problem with oxygen in my planted tank . My fish were gasping for air, and all tests showed nothing abnormal. With the addition of a bubbler they were back to normal within a few hours. This goes against everything I've read / been told in relation to planted tanks/ oxygen, so I'm quite confused.
  5. That is an absolutely rubbish job. Please tell me you haven't paid him yet... :an!gry Make sure you make it very clear to him that this is not what you wanted, and you won't be paying him until he does it right.
  6. Funny, I drive a beat up holden ute - and I have a "Kotanga" aerial
  7. How is that a screwed up attitude ? Is it any different to cross breeding dogs or cats ? I apologise if I'm being ignorant or dumb , I don't know a lot about hybrids.
  8. They are truly the cheapest and best around. They also have some amazing weekend only specials, which they email out to you on the friday.
  9. Is this in relation to a certain auction on a certain site I stumbled across today ? :sml2:
  10. I'm just running a basic glass 3ft (160L-ish) tank so it sits on top - I don't use the brackets that came with it, I just put a small piece of wood to give distance between the glass / lights to avoid overheating. I did use that light by itself for a good month , with no visible problems on plants but growth was slow (Except cabomba, but that stuff will grow in hell.) But then again, I only had amazon swords, cabomba and java fern. If you're looking to go minimalist with planting, you shouldn't need much light at all - perhaps even less than 1WPG. But this is wholly dependant on what plants you wish to have. What is the height on your tank ?
  11. Welcome ! nice username :slfg:
  12. http://www.trademe.co.nz/pets-animals/f ... 245243.htm The picture on the auction isn't very accurate for what the light actually looks like so I've attached another pic I found which is a far more accurate respresentation. I believe they come in 800, 1000 or 1200 long. I really like this light. I also have a quad t5 unit on the same tank and it is really bulky. These Sunsun lights are very slimline in height / width.
  13. I read similar things when I was researching whether to purchase a seperate lighting unit from Sunsun. I bought one anyway, t5 dual bulb for $100.00 , 3 foot long. Haven't been disappointed yet
  14. I'd definitely leave it full when testing for at least a week. I had similar chips on a 3 foot tank which didn't leak for 3-4 days after filling then on the 5th day I arrived home to puddles.
  15. Last time I saw it was around 6 hundy, but I bet it's dropped since. It has been on there for a while now
  16. Could it be a problem with the test kit itself ?
  17. I've seen it too - it's just not worth what they want for it . Condition is ok to poor, at best. Being used as a shop counter daily hasn't done it any favours. I'm pretty sure you could get one made brand new the same size for less than his reserve. Judging by the time this tank has spent featured on TM and not sold I would say I wasn't the only one who was quite disappointed in viewing.
  18. I use a sunsun on my 3 ft - But I wouldn't rate it for much bigger. It's easy to clean (3 media trays) easy to prime and never once given me any problems.
  19. I was pruning weekly up until winter hit, and I haven't had to prune since. Maybe it's the temp that is slowing the growth of your plants ? I'd definitely look into flourish, I use it and have found it's really good for promoting growth if you keep a constant routine. Also, you can look at pruning certain parts of each plant to promote new growth.
  20. I picked some up off trademe myself about 2 weeks ago , just waiting for it to grow out. How does it grow for you ? Are you trimming it as often as say cabomba or equivalent fast growing plants ? Oh, and your tank looks fantastic. A really well thought out layout.
  21. Is that Rotala Wallichi in the background mid ? the tallest green/pink ish stems ?
  22. I thought that schooling fish should be in groups of 6 + , the more the merrier but not under 6 ? :dunno:
  23. and a chance to get some $$ back haha
