    Tanked

The tanked guys have a nationwide aftercare business also. It was in one of the early episodes.
  2. I followed LFS advice on my first tank , and my 5 neons died within 24 hours - Then, I got completely different advice from the same shop the next week which resulted in my one and only Ich problem. I thought it was odd because it was a well known and respected shop which everyone knows. Now I just put water in a tank. Get hold of some cycled media from a friend for the filter - or if no media available, squeeze a friends filter sponge into a fish bag with some of his water then pour into new tank. Add water conditioner - generously. Wait 2 days then add fish. Haven't lost any fish since using that method except for the occasional natural death maybe once every few months. I also know a guy who puts the hose straight into his tank, fills it, adds fish the next day. No water conditioner, no quick start, nothing. He's lost 1 fish in the last 8 months.
  3. If I had to vote , and only had those 2 to choose from I'd view it as the lesser of two evils, and vote Obama. If Romney had got in , I bet we would see a pre-emptive strike on Iran within the next few years - Which is a baaaaaaaaaaad idea IMO.
  4. Slightly :smot: But.... There is only one place in the wild where the lion and tiger range overlaps- the Gir Forest. Even there, lions and tigers hardly ever come across each other, since the Gir Forest doesn't make great tiger "turf" so , tigers very rarely meet up with lions. Many people, because of this overlap in territory, claim that ligers and tigons can be found in the wild. This isn't true though. Lions and tigers never mate in the wild, because they are not wired to do so . The only time they have been bred together is with human intervention , which gets back to my question : Do Cichlids cross breed in the wild without human intervention ? That one question for me would swing my vote either way, depending on the answer . :dunno:
  5. Is it naturally occurring ? If so , I don't see a problem with it . Some of the hybrids I've seen have been absolutely stunning fish. Is it any different to crossbred dogs ?
  6. Wii for party games Xbox or ps-3 for driving games PC for anything else (solely because of mouse/keyboard controls)
  7. Do you have access to a cannister filter that is already in use on a cycled tank ? I had similar issues with a 60l tank and a small internal filter (hailea BT-400) I had almost given up on being able to get this tank running well and healthy , when I decided to put my cannister filter from my 4ft tank on the 60l for the night. When I woke up in the morning, water was crystal clear, algae was 90% gone and it even looked like something had cleaned all my plants for me. Since then the tank has been running without issues , apart from the odd green spot on the glass. Worth a try ?
  8. I don't think you can blame light alone for algae problems. Currently running 6x 39w T5HO , on a 4ft tank (450 deep) - 4x of the pinkish plant bulbs on for 8 hours a day, 2 white light bulbs on for 10-12 hours a day. So 234 watts of light for 10 hours a day & 78 watts for an extra 2 hours after the plant bulbs go off @ night. No issues with algae - and since replanting with a nutrient rich substrate, plants have never been healthier . Whereas when I was running only 2x 39w T5HO for 8 hours a day on the same tank, and dosing ferts / c02 supplements religiously I had algae problems coming out my ears and yellowing plants which barely grew at all.
  9. Each to their own - Music is very much personal taste. I like anything except for country and classical . (and anyone with lady in front of his name....) Even doof doof :sml2:
  10. If I remember right most of the blood oranges we get are imports from california, and their season is November to May so we should be seeing them in supermarkets soon.

  14. Will be very cool to see what you've got planned for the next tank If this tank is anything to go by, I expect we're in for some really great pictures !
  15. I was just answering a question The joys of reading text - it shows no emotion This happens all the time, it's probably my fault sorry Sam ! I love the photos, the colour in them is just amazing.
  16. Pretty sure I didn't say anything was wrong with it ?
  17. If you look @ the colour of the knob on top of the heater in the photo with the red discus, you can see they're definitely enhanced / edited Lovely photos, nonetheless
  18. Of course it is I think some people are confusing posting on others walls and private messaging. Unless someone knows a 'trick' to see other peoples private messages, in which case I'd like to know !
  19. You end up with 3 of your friends community tanks in your house with fish you don't really like - they know you won't say no, as you're the "fish guy".
  20. 99% of the problems people experience on social media are due to not having it set up correctly in the first place. As long as you keep it private, and only add people you know really well, you won't have any problems. Also, be careful about the games you play and the applications you add through facebook . When you add something, it will ask you to accept a disclaimer which tells you what information it will access. Lots of them can access all of your private information , and some of them are quite malicious with it - e.g sending messages to your friends list advertising products without your knowledge. You can definitely block people and messages from certain people. You can also choose who sees what you post, each time you post something. If you don't want the world to see your photos , you can set it so only people you have added as friends can see them. There are lots of tutorials on the web , which will teach you how to setup privacy , account settings and the likes. It's basically all about setup, and being smart about what you post / use.
  21. If you're going to get one from Trademe, I can reccomend buying from Boxturtle (I think that's his username) He's a guy called Ants who imports from home - carries spares and extra stock . Very nice guy to deal with.
