  1. Yea I had noticed she hadn't been pooing the last couple of days before hand because she had stopped eating. Was pretty stoked to catch her shedding, it was the first time I had actually managed to see it
  2. Saw my leopard gecko Cas shedding for the first time today. Finally managed to catch her after noticing how ready to shed she was this morning. Thought some people might be interested in the pictures Her this morning, looking very black and white caught mid shed All that shedding worked up an appetite
  3. Hey Alan what's your thoughts on feeding them mealworms? That was what I had for my bells when I had them years ago along with home made coke bottle fly traps lol. They're pretty cheap and fatty mealworms as well as very easy to breed and keep. Could be an option for becky, just not too sure whether they're any good at digesting their chitin.
  4. I'd be keen too, but they're really hard to breed, the adults need a large flying area as they only mate during flight.
  5. Not the best pic, but here's a pic of one I got from Alan last year.
  6. Yes they're called sperm or seminal plugs, other reptile species have these also. Look something like this: http://www.anapsid.org/images/seminal%20plugs-8.jpg
  7. I would definitely take him on board if it was down here in Chch, hope it fines a loving home
  8. Should take some pics of them I would LOVE to find a bunch for my reps and to try and breed, they are so common overseas as feeders.
  9. You guys should use http://www.imgur.com to host your pics, I use it at least once a day uploading images, and visit it at least 10-100times a day for images lol. No account required and uploads your pics in 3 clicks, gives you all the URL's you need to share and you can upload multiple pics at once and make albums etc. Just need to go to http://www.imgur.com, select the computer button underneath 'upload images' on the top right, select you image from your pc, hit upload and your done. Way easier than that photobucket BS. I DEFINITELY suggest giving it a go for your images.
  10. I've never really had any issues with smel,l normally you would keep 2 pieces of astroturf so while ones getting hosed down and dried on the line there's a clean one to go in.
  11. Make a fly trap that's what I used to do with mine as well as breeding mealworms for them. Get a coke bottle cut the cone/funnel top part off and turn it upside down jam it back in towards the bottom of the bottle, so where the lid would normally go would now be facing the bottom and the edges are firmly holding it in place. Will look something like this: Put some old meat in the bottom and leave it in the sun, hundreds of flies will come and get trapped in it. To feed out just carefully position in the frog tank pop the top off and give it a shake they will all fly/climb out!
  12. Was under the impression that reptiles could not be entered? *looked at the rules as typing* Aquatic reptiles are allowed so turtles only really then?
  13. I use astroturf for all mine just to be safe and trays of aus red sand in with the ones that like it to dig.
  14. By the sounds mealworms and their beetles can eat the mites. But I would just take everything live out and replace all the substrate/clean the containers to get rid of them. I had a similar mite problem with my wax worms and they infested my whole room, never got to the mealworms though that were in the same stack.
  15. That's a real shame, would be really keen to get a couple for the genetics. Would be fantastic, make sure you do flick me a pm if you get a clutch sometime. Do you know of anyone else that does red pairings? Don't see too many around in reds, mainly just high citrus.
  16. Reptilenutt, you wouldn't happen have any eggs from a red pairing in the incubator at the moment?
  17. Check out on trade me the Arcadia 12% UVB bulbs are the best I've known of and they're finally in New Zealand (Think proudpaws Chch might have them now too). They last 1year instead of 6months as the 10% reptile one bulbs do and give out a slightly higher amount of UV. Are highly recommended overseas and I plan to buy one asap also. Damn it was an old post... nevermiiind.
  18. Their larva are very nutritious for reptiles and can be used as a staple insect with enough calcium that generally they don't need dusting. However they are very hard to breed in New Zealand as they are not overly common, and if captured require a large flight area in order to mate. Biosuppliers had a go trying to breed them to add to their list of insects but had no such luck in being able to produce a sustainable amount.
  19. They're pretty good but don't expect to get your order right away, often there's large waiting lists for feeders. I just recently made a purchase from them.
  20. Short answer, No. For an indoor water dragon I would definitely say it needs a 10.0% bulb as they spend a lot of time in the sun and other open areas naturally in Aus. From memory 2.0 bulbs are for nocturnal and ones like frogs that spend a lot of time under cover. 5.0 are for ones such as turtles or those that spend a medium amount of time in the trees and a 10.0+ is for desert and open area reptiles was my understanding of it anyway. I also recommend tubes over compacts as they can be quite harsh on them and tubes give a lot more spread of UVB throughout the viv.
  21. I normally just buy cheap items from ebay, when I can be bothered waiting for them to arrive. You don't normally get pinged with a GST bill (but I wouldn't ride on the chance that they may not give you one).
  22. Sorry for all the posts, this one lives in the bedroom so lots of pictures get taken
  23. Yea you probably wont need the heating through summer. As it is an indoor enclosure 10.0 UVB tubes are going to be best (try to keep away from compact bulbs) and generally it's best to cover 70%+ of the viv. The more the better with beardies really.
