  1. So stoked, in 4-5 weeks time I will be the proud owner of a baby inland bearded dragon Very excited He/She shall be named Alduin .
  2. Mine would quite happily eat carrot, or clover if I put it in there, but mainly just lush grass and bran was what they would stick to, did try dandelion greens but they didn't even touch them.
  3. Can anyone measure their humidity, I'm sure almost everyone has a humidity meter in their dragon enclosures. I'd be interested to hear what other people are measuring at
  4. You may be right about the thermoregulating, because the surrounding air temp is 30-35 degrees and 41% humidity there's no cooler areas anywhere. My other thought is it could be the lights I was using for heating, they're ones used for growing plants (high powered, full spectrum) because I'm growing a large tray dandelion greens in the same place. Maybe they couldn't take the rays they put out.
  5. Looks like I'll never know what was wrong, left the locust tank out on the kitchen table last night, thinking it would be fine. Cat broke in during the night, left me with 3 tiny ones alive. Have to start from scratch again.
  6. Yea just looked up the humidity of their home countries, all around 40% often more in places.
  7. I didn't think it was that bad providing normal without any heating it is 60-70. often higher over night.
  8. I've taken any ones that keep falling over lots out and away from the rest just in case, neighbor hasn't been spraying that I know of. Wheatmeals the same bag I'm feeding to my mealworms, they all seem alive and developing. The rest seem okay as far as I can tell atm, a few are a bit twitchy still, I've taken them away from their light heating and given them grass from the same area again though, as to test one change at a time to work out what's exactly causing them to die. Only time will tell I guess now, if there's more dead tomorrow I may have to find them a new source of food to try. I'm rather disappointed by their deaths after I thought they were going so well.
  9. D: I don't know what's going on. My locusts are in a tank, fresh water (soaked cotton ball), bran and grass. tanks being kept around 30 degrees and humities around 41%. I noticed over the last 2 days they've started being a bit twichy then yesterday when I took the tank out 3 were upside down just twitching. My first thought was I had startled them and they jumped into the side of the glass and knocked themselves out (so wasn't too bothered cos I still had many more). Just checked on them now because they need some more fresh grass and there's another 5 laying upside down just twitching and a few other looking like they can hardly handle there own legs and kinda keep stumbling . Can't be the food supply having insecticide, because I have always gathered the grass from the same place in my yard and I haven't sprayed there ever. Any ideas please???
  10. Just noticed these on trademe http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=442346433 are these cacti all good for beardies, just want to double check even though they're being advertised as beardy food.
  11. Hmm that's a good question. I think the polystyrene might have too much buoyancy, but a few more coats of mortar might make all the difference. But you could always use something other than polystyrene as the base shape then mortar that? I just use it cos it doesn't require anything else but a knife to shape.
  12. For that one I coated the polystyrene in 2 layers of grey mortar (most people use grout but I didn't think there was much difference), I also mixed with some pva in it to help it adhere better, then once all dry I coated it with matte mod podge to seal it fully. It's solid as a rock, think it would quite happily survive a drop on the floor, not that I'd like to test . Decided against paints for my first try, will probably paint next time. Also mixing in coloured sands doesn't work out as well as you'd think. Tried red sand and came out looking like, well, something from a rear end . Guess it's a bit of trial and error with that lol .
  13. Just had my first attempt at making a home made basking "rock". Only a small scale one for first go, next come a full enclosure one! Sorry the pictures were taken with a phone camera. Day 1 Day 2 Day 4 I'd love to see everyone elses. Lets get posting
  14. what kind of humidity do they need?
  15. What kind of humidity do they need? I very recently just started to breed my own, and noticed the tank gets quite humid. Is this good or bad for them? :smln:
  16. I had some bells for 3-4 years. Generally fed them up on mealworms and lots of flies (homemade coke bottle fly traps work VERY well). As well as large moths when I had the chance to catch them. They used to enjoy live whitebait too when I had them .
  17. Hi there, I've been lurking in the background on this forum for a while now, finally joined up to be able to post things . I'm also looking to finding myself a new beardie friend in the near future. New tanks almost ready to go, just waiting on some more bulbs to arrive in the mail. Also having a first attempt and building my own small scale "rock" platform for this tank. I think it's coming along quite well, if anyone wants to check it out when it's done . I reside in Christchurch if there's anyone currently breeding near here. Cheers :bounce:
