  1. Are they really? So you used them before?? I might look into breeding them as feeders if this pans out.
  2. Hey what you guys reckon about katydids, I've seen a few care sheets that say they're all good. Has anyone ever tried feeding them to their bd. The ones we have here are the same species as the ones found in aus. Just though they might be easy to breed, being able to survive and breed in the wild here
  3. It is a bit when the other two that went on same transport and got off before the night times (and probably before the photos) were perfectly fine? Although I don't think it's about that any more, think everyone is more mad about the rudeness and complete disregard from the company?
  4. I would assume the thermometer probe could have been easily popped through an air hole or a small gap in the side no need to be opening it right up? Although the company said they wouldn't take the thermometer and the bd would be fine... so what was the reasoning there for some photos?
  5. Dunno I believe he's talking to his own lawyer, on what his option are? Be worth it in the end I suppose, more or less teach the company a lesson regardless of cost.
  6. They are. And they're absolutely gutted about it all.
  7. One thing though, is some contain leafy lettuce and spinach, just if you see those try to pick them out/don't give too much of them that's all, it's not like they're real bad or anything, just preferable not to give as they don't have much nutrition or can start to block calcium absorption if too much is consumed. The packets if you get them normally say what's in them on the back .
  8. Although it's a really good site it doesn't help much really just gives you an idea of what's good and what's bad, as a lot of it you can't find anywhere here normally, like cactus pads for example. And most people have no idea what endive or escarole even is or where to get it, all they know is it's good for their dragon... I'd love to feed my dragon cactus pads, and the one time I did find some (on trademe of all places) no one could tell me if they were the right one or not.
  9. Forgot to add all chopped medium to finely depending on what it is. E.g squash is finely chopped while basil and dandilions and still quite chunky.
  10. Born 19/1/12 so around 9-10week old? The other ones traveled fine as far as I know and were picked up before that one. My fella is from the same breeder, he was packed in a shoe boxy cardboard box with lots of air holes with cut up blanket covering a heat pad, the heat pad was warm but deff not real hot, had traveled for around 12hrs on arrival. There definitely wouldn't have been anything wrong with the dragon the breeder cares for them very well.
  11. I grow my own dandilions, rocket, basil, oregano an mint these all go into the salad. I buy squash to go in too. I also add grape leaves when I have some. Sometimes have capsicum and grapes themselves. Otherwise mesclun salad which has endive rocket dandilions etc in it can get one that has herbs too. All available from any supermarket. That's the main stuff off the top of my head anyway.
  12. Yea that's weird that she has photos on her phone... why were they out enough to have photos taken of them... Makes me wonder if the girl dropped him or something, or if it tried to do a runner and she grabbed him to hard. To someone that doesn't know about handling them, seeing how fast one can move might have given the girl a fright.
  13. That's the main reason I thought they're sent by pet courier, is that it would be better cared for than if sent by air? In this case obviously not, I know the breeder had even offered the company his digital thermometer to make sure they were staying warm, they wouldn't take it and said they'd be fine.
  14. Apparently my fellow drinks from his bowl, I haven't seen him do so. So I just offer him an eyedropper full of water each day to see if he's thirsty sometimes he'll drink other times he wont. To upload a pic just upload to imgur.com and post the link by itself or between some img tags.
  15. Fair enough, I'll be interested to see the new store when it opens. Just so far I've found all the food, supplements and lighting I have purchased to date to be cheaper at redwood aquatics. (I spent a long time shopping round)
  16. When I had initially inquired into said dragons, the employee couldn't tell me age, or even if they were inland or coastal, the continued to say they were eastern then changed their mind inland and was telling me about how you cannot get coastal dragons in NZ. Didn't know about the matching maybe that should be advertised more, I've ended up never buying main products from the store as they were always far more expensive than the other 2 main reptile stores. Not trying to turn it into an argument of any sort, just sharing my experience with the stores so far. Don't get me wrong proudpaws has a decent reptile range, I just found it to be more expensive and was put off by some miss information.
  17. Heya, best places in Chch for reptile stuff is redwood aquatics center (have bought quite a few things from there and the prices are more reasonable), and then proud paws northlands (are quite expensive but have an okay range) and pet and garden. Never ask the people in proud paws about their reptiles they know nothing about them, and atm are claiming their tiny bearded dragons to be around 8 weeks old they're at least half the size of what I'd expect an 8 week old should look like.
  18. Don't see why I shouldn't have named him/her back then before its arrival lol. It was no different than say a parent picking out names for an unborn baby? XP My SO and I named our cat 6months+ before we even found him. Oh how it's suits him :B Sounds like a trolol to me.
  19. Found this pdf on another forum found it interesting to read, about mealworms as live food: http://www.glasgowgecko.co.uk/Articles/P56-59%20Meal%20Worms%20proof%20rev2-1.pdf hopefully that works
  20. Yea I grew a huge tray of dandelions especially for them , along with basil, oregano, mint and rosemary for them to nom at Thanks for that just wanted to double check that it was in fact a lettuce and not some other magical nutritious plant that looks similar
  21. I got a question. Can anyone identify these leafy greens (loose leaf lettuces I think?... looks like lettuce), I was given a few and wanted to make sure they were, cos I thought about feeding to my beardy? Lettuce isn't supposed to be any good no nutrients... Just wanted to double check it's what I think it is (never grown lettuce before ) And decided to post my dandelions too for fun They've turned into a forest
  22. Yes I have even seen some even say 130f way to hot. I completely agree with insect directs responce, just been reading again ambient vs surface for beardies. Hard to read proper surface temps for those that don't have an infrared heat gun. I borrowed one to do the measurements on mine. The consensus on the net seems to be around 37-43c surface temp on the basking spot with an ambient of around 32c on the hot side. With the cool side being an ambient temp of 26c. Hopefully should put this topic to rest
  23. Is this ambient or surface you're talking about though
  24. I would presume 43c to me surface temp rather than ambient? My basking spot sits at 37-40 surface temp with 30-35 ambient on the hot side and 25-28 ambient and 22c surface on the cool side.
