  1. Decomposing plants, food, or fish &c:ry Could be a mini cycle :dunno: Whats the size of the tank?
  2. More plants would be awesome! How many hundred of these buggers do you want?
  3. Sadly, the mini ramshorns. My bristlenose and pleco love cucumber, so there's no chance of any remaining overnight. I'm not sure that this would remove them all, just reduce numbers. I am currently squishing them between fingers, hoping my Kribs will develop a taste for them. Good to know, but I will reserve this as a back-up plan. Thank you for the info
  4. Will take this under advisement, will definitely try a clown loach before copper. Will I need a school of them? They prefer schools, right?
  5. Wait, you could see the eggs?!?
  6. Thanks for all the replies  A dent will only delay them coming back. Don't these guys get quite big? And again, chances of the snails coming back? As above. Koura tank sounds great, I'm sure the colder temp would slow the snails down, but what would I do with my large community? Did you sell the fish on? I was considering it, but as mentioned above, not sure on the long term effect. I have new plants in a quarantine tank. How were the fish after the two water changes? Any Ammonia spikes? where do you get the copper solution from??
  7. Hey All My tanks have got a few too many snails. I've identified them as ramshorns, they hitch-hiked on some plants that I bought about a month ago. It started off as one or two snails... needless to say, now there are lots. I've read that Clown loaches or dwarf puffers are the best way to get rid of them, but that the loaches will eat the plants too and the puffer will be aggressive against any other fish in the tank. Here's my question: has anyone tried salt? Snails in the garden start bubbling straight away when you put salt on them. (I understand that I will need to move all of my fish to a separate tank while treating). I was thinking that I could put all the fish into the display tank while I get a puffer to eat the snails. The problems I found with this idea was that the puffer MAY not want to eat them at all, and he won't be able to eat any that are spawning in the filter. Any other ideas are welcome.
  8. Hi All, Our LFS has a goldspot pleco in stock (They're calling it something else, but the colouration is a dead giveaway) At home I have a redspot pleco (sailfin). Both of these guys are still very little compared to how large they are going to get. I am thinking that my 300L tank (1200 x 500 x 500) will only JUST be big enough for one, and he may need something larger LATER ON. If I got this goldspot as well, how much sooner would I need to separate them? Will they fight for the same territory? I know that my large female ancistrus caused a bit of fin tearing before she was moved to the other tank. The wife has already said no to me getting another pleco in the same tank, this is purely hypothetical. Is this footprint ok for a full grown pleco or am I correct in assuming it would need more space?
  9. Yes, it is much more of a deep purple than a purple-blue
  10. Black bio balls Ceramic noodles Images are borrowed from a quick Google Image Search. All photo's and their rights belong to the photographer, etc etc.
  11. Many pool filters that are second hand are LOADED with chlorine
  12. I was the opposite. I started with live bearers in mind. Crawling out of poker? Into fishkeeping?
  13. You REALLY didn't know about livebearers? wow. (i'm not angry or anything, just honestly shocked.) I think egg-layers take a lot more work, I see a lot of posts of people removing the eggs. (Is this to prevent cannibalism?) They say "breed like bunnies". Guppies breed much more often than bunnies. The hard part is when you get some awfully ugly guppies and you have to decide whether or not to cull. (I'm at that stage now) It's much harder when ONE of the awful come out with a really nice colouration, and you're left wondering if any of the others might as well.
  14. I owe you an apology. 4 months was almost SPOT ON. It has only just sunk.
  15. I think the filter change monthly was overdoing it, the water could easily be changed weekly @ 25%. How did you acclimitise the fish?
  16. Maybe they're trying to keep a cap on it? :dunno:
  17. Could have been. I think the tank that I got from Luke was home made. Very nice tank.
  18. No branded tanks in this household anymore. I learnt my lesson. I spent $249 on a AquaOne AR620, sold a month later for $220. All mine are... do we have a term for non-branded tanks? They're not made by an amateur (I think...) but they're not commercial.
  19. hmmm... genetically modified algae.... Patent Pending :slfg:
