  1. Good idea - Thank you The room is heated so doesn't really matter. At this stage will probably go for the salvini.
  2. Sounds good. Will the salvini be okay with only a 30cm high tank? Cheers, JaSa
  3. Hi guys, sorry to bring up this old topic again... Butterfly fish is not really an option since they tend to concentrate on the surface and wont touch the fish hiding at the bottom. The other way round the feeder fish learn very fast that it is safe near the ground. Not ideal... The oscar would be an option but I can only provide the following tank space: 150 x 30 x 25 = 112ltr or 90 x 50 x 25 = 112ltr And from all I have read this is not enough for one of these. Any opinions / experiences on that? Cheers, JaSa
  4. Evening Blue Tiger and it's tail: That is what Pink does to the little sword markings Hopefully there will be one without that further down the track => no ugly tail. Blond Tigers: You can have them The blue surprise fish: Goes back to one of the two original Blond Magenta females you sent me. So you tell me if hetero or homo 8) Ah, and it is F2, three month old. The only one in 50 fry. Cheers, JaSa
  5. Good Evening. New strain that was in the making for the last 9 month; The Blue Tiger Endler - I love them : A little side project from above, The Blond Tiger Endler - boooooring!!! => into the feeder tank : @caserole: Any idea ?¿?¿? Definitely not JP and very, very unlikely Asia Blau. Came out of your Blond Magenta x Red Chest ... Cheers, JaSa
  6. A little update out of the fish room: The next generation of Glass Belly Guppies is growing nicely. Some of them have most of their silver skin missing now but there is still a long way to go. Once the silver skin is gone completly I will than introduce Albino and Asia Blau into the strain. The final result will be the famous See-Thru Guppy (Google for pictures). Below a picture of one of my breeding females: The picture below is F1 from a crossing between a Pink Lady Guppy male I got from caserole (Thank you!) and a Red Chest Endler and looks very close to the original Japan Blue. A couple of generations of selective breeding further down the track should result in nice looking Japan Blue Guppies. First ones in NZ as far as I know: Below another first in NZ - Blond and Albino Red Chest Endler Hybrids. Three generations and 12 month after crossing a Red Chest Endler male with a Magenta Blond female from caserole, the first Blond and Albino Red Chest Hybrids are looking very nice. Somehow the Magenta got lost on the way so after I have build up stock numbers, I will introduce this trait again with another crossing. Last but not least - something funny out of my fish room: A hermaphrodite Guppy: First she looked like any other female but than she showed more and more colour and finally grew a gonopodium. Now "she" even displays to the other females... Enough for today Cheers, JaSa
  7. Hi guys, Sorry to disappoint you - but your filters have nothing to do with the original HMF except using a mat. His whole concept is based around a very strict balance between the required water flow, the size of the tank and the circulation per hour. These three points define the size of the pump, the dimensions of the mat and what PPI. If you bend the mat, the flow will change which needs adjusting. Here are some links to calculators: Size of mat - Click Size of pump - Click Flow rate - Click Bend mat? - Click Only if you design your HMF after these rules you will get all the benefits. If not - it's just another mechanical filter. Cheers, JaSa
  8. Q: How many tanks do you have? A: Never enough!
  9. Automatic water change system set @ 10% per day + 15% twice a week while siphon out poo = 100% a week. Also extract half a bucket (5ltr) of duck weed every week. Very heavy stocked tanks with intensive feeding...

    Fish Identity?

  11. Depending on the town a "fish room" probably adds more value to a house than a swimming pool or a deck :slfg:

    Air filtration

Still will have the friction problem + if you change one of the 5 filters on one of the 16 outlets you have to adjust / it will influence the other 4 as well. Like ryanjury said: the air will just go to the air stones with the least resistance to it. That means you have to play around a fair bit to get the system ballanced. And then a filter clocks up or a snail gets in there and the whole dynamic changes and needs adjusting again :nilly: Or if you change water and the level drops in one tank it will upset the whole system until you get the water level perfect again. Been there - not doing it again. I rather watch my fish then adjust the 36 filters all the time Cheers, JaSa

    Air filtration

You loose too much pressure branching of the 4mm air line. Better to run a big (40mm) PVC pipe around your room and branch off that to each tank. Way easier to control each tank plus you wont have (much) pressure loos. I have 39 air filters + three BS bottles running on a pump third the size of yours and I still have to leave three of the spare taps fully open because of too much pressure... Pump feeds big pipe: 40mm PVC pipe runs along the ceiling and every tank got a tap in the pipe: Cheers, JaSa
  14. Nice room A few comments: - You used normal GibBoard. Might become a problem especially as you - haven't used a vapor barrier on the warm side of the room. - Powerpoints are flush with the gib. That is a prime point where the moist air from the inside will get in contact with cold air and condensation will occur. 24C inside, 60% humidity, dew point at 15.8C 24C inside, 70% humidity, dew point at 18.2C Means when the air from your fish room moves through the ordinary Gib, powerpoints or cracks and hits 15.8 / 18.2C inside your Rockwool, the humidity becomes dew. This means mold and a wet insulation fails to do it's job. Cheers, JaSa
  15. He there Swallow Tail Guppies: Still love my Tiger Endlers: Black Bar Elongatus showing colour in dorsal fin now: (Not so white) White Platinum Guppy: Magenta Platinum: Snake Chest with a bit of JP (?): Asia Blau: Flamenco Dancer: The long and stony way to create the See-Thru Guppie from scratch: Cheers, JaSa

Hi there, as far as I can tell by my test crossing, the Tiger Endler here in NZ are either Y-linked Galaxy + Tigrinus/Zebrinus or just Y-linked Tigrinus/Zebrinus and X-linked Snakeskin. I would suggest to grab any male Yellow Snakeskin out of the shops and cross it with a Tiger female. That way the male hopefully brings a bit of colour with him but mainly a decent size caudal fin is what we need from him; the female will sort out the rest. Good luck, JaSa

    Sunken in Bellies?

What you have done sounds all good to me. Just quickly confirming the rate for Aviverm you should use: Aviverm comes usually at a strenght of 24%. Means 1ml contains 240mg of Levamisole. With the recommended dose rate for Levamisole of 2.4mg per 1ltr of water you have to use 0.1ml of Aviverm per 10ltr tank water. And since technically Levamisole is an acid, make sure your pH is 7 or below otherwise the acid (Levamisole) gets deactivated and can't do it's job. Always grind / crush Droncit to a fine powder and put that in your tank. I used emamectin benzoate in the past when the other two were failing. Not too sure if it is registered in New Zealand. It not only kills the adult, it also gets the larvae so you only have to use it once for four days and job done. Good luck, JaSa

    Sunken in Bellies?

Hi, What was the dose rate for Parzi and Levamisole and how old was the stuff? Did you repeat the treatment after 14 days? Cheers, JaSa

Can't beat a swarm of 20 - 30 male Tiger Endler and a few pygmy corys in a nice planted tank. Cheers, JaSa
  20. The ones on TM are Black ones - NOT Black Berlin ones. And it is Zane that is selling them by the way, urgh. Cheers, JaSa
  21. Only one posibility here as he describes it with both parents being grey fish: Both have to be heterozygous for albinism and therfore 25% of the fry are albinos. Taking into account that albinos are a bit weaker + get eaten more often by their mother; cut that percentage down a bit in reality. So 7 (25%) albino fry * 4 = 28 (100%) fry in a drop which is feasible. It all adds up and to answer jackypukeko's question: No it is not. Cheers, JaSa PS: jackypukeko: Still waiting for some pictures of the fish you were selling HERE...
  22. I only use a self-made chelated iron solution which keeps me busy weeding out every week so I'm not an expert but TM "500ml Plant Fertilizer refill" looks pretty good to me if you want the whole package... Cheers, JaSa
  23. Magenta Platinum Male: Copper Tail Guppies: Pink, Pink Platinum & Panda Guppies: A very nice Black Lace female guppy: Cheers, JaSa
